I HATE if I’m bored at work and reading websites like MLIA, IMMD and FML and sooo many people relate things to Harry Potter, Twilight and other wizard shit. I know I’ve been out of High school a while now, but are there really that many teachers and students who shout out spells from the movies and all that??? seriously people… WTF

avada cadaver!
problem solved.
these morons should read more poe…well maybe not it kinda fucked with my head
I just seriously don’t see hwo that many people are shouting out stuff all the time… does it really happen??
The only time I’ve ever heard a Harry Potter or Twilight reference was when the topic on the forum was Harry Potter or Twilight. I’ve never one heard a reference just randomly inserted into a conversation in life or online, and I’ve hung out with some serious fans of each series.
OP is just bored at work and doesn’t have anything more interesting to bitch about. Is there anything lamer than reading through website posts and getting offended by the random anonymous posters over how many references they make to teen fiction? OH wait, there is something lamer… POSTING ABOUT IT.
harry potter = new LOTR.
I’ve never read all the books, only half way through the first one a while back before stopping…
but knowing the plot lines/etc,. there are SO many similarities.
bad dude building an army…
up to one main dude and friends to stop it.
magical element rife throughout…
there were more but I was only noticing them pile up as I was watching through the movies.
that spider is an exact hack of shelob as well.
It’s not like a 1-1 ripoff, but she had to be adapting things from lotr for harry.
Twilight is just a fucking boring love story and the movies suck a smurfs blue balls.
“I know what you are….”
“SAY IT…. SAY IT…. OUTLOUD”
as if there;s another way to say something.
that’s like saying
“SAY IT… SAY IT…. OUTLOUD…. WITH YOUR MOUTH…. USING DISPLACED AIR”
FIZZ… how about you read more clearly what exactly my bitch was about?? I’m not saying people make references on here, I’m saying that so many people who write FML’s and stuff on other websites always have their funny and interesting stories related to people shouting out things from those movies.
Yes I am very boerd at work, BUT I wasn’t complaining about the stuff written on this website… REREAD what I bitched about
actually… I need to reread yours… my bad you were talking about mine… but yeah I can bitch about what I want to bitch about… I find it annoying… it may be lame, but who gives a fuck
HP and LOTR are both the classic hero’s journey that we know and love. Just like Star Wars.
Twilight should just be marketed as PMS relief, and less as a book or series of movies.
Hey man, at least it’s not as bad as the rising epidemic of people getting seriously depressed from Avatar.
teehee don’t tell the pope that angel
aww come on paingirl, that would be fun 😉
Twilight is a four part book series about a girl struggling to decide between bestiality, and necrophilism
That’s her first mistake; making it an either/or issue. This is the 21st century people.
the raven is one of my favorite stories by Poe and the raven by the Stranglers is one of my favorite songs
HP is pretty much a world famous series. Get used to it. If it annoys you that much that you don’t understand the references. . . read the books dammit. People aren’t going to stop referencing the books just because you were too lazy to read them. They are good. Really.
Twilight. . .now. . . that’s a whole ‘nother story. I read the books but only cause I was bored and wanted to jump on the “holy crap look a these books — lets make fun of them” bandwagon. It has helped me with doing just that. Reading is easy (and sometimes fun!). Do it up.
poe was seriously fucked up, i can’t pick a favourite but when i lived in pei my babysitters took us to an all night drive-in and i watched the fall of the house of usher…i would have been in grade 4. i was hooked after that.
Quote the Raven, What a Shine!
the telltale heart creeped me out big time
“A Cask of Amontillado” is my poe-tent poe-table of choice. Jesus H., I deserve to be walled up alive for that.
oooh thats a good one “the masque of the red death” is coming to mind…aaah i fweel refweshed
tresorla- I actually do read all the time, and while I do get the references made for HP (I saw the movies), I jsut think it’s annoying that people are sayin they will randomly hear someone shout out a magic spell. This is a BITCH section, so I bitched about something that irritated me.
Just because I don’t “jump on the bandwagon” and read the books because they’re popular, doesn’t mean I dont’ read. I’ve read almost every book by Jodi Picoult… and a lot more.
this is for all the walken/poe fans….
five stars

loverly thanks zZz
Whenever I hear Walken, all I can think of is “More Cowbell!”.
I’ve got less against Harold Potter than I do Twilight. Twilight is terribly written, even for a young adult audience. Not to mention too, there’s not one strong character in the series, the female lead is a damsel in distress who routinely puts herself into danger. Meanwhile, the pedophilia in the later books just plain disgusts me, and vampires are fascinating characters as they are, so don’t mess with them. At her worst, Rice at least understood that concept. Hell, Whedon understood that concept. The Underworld series of characters are far more believable than Twilight’s contrived world of Be-Dazzled vampires. Kristen Stewart looks more like a vampire than Pattinson’s Cullen does… Not to mention too, Kate Beckinsale is far more attractive then Kirsten Stewart any day.
At least the Potter books give their reader some credit and let them use their imagination, even though it may be a derivative story.
I have a (Dr) FEVER…
and the only PRESCRIPTION is MORE COWBELL!
(thought you’d like that)
I love the walken family reunion snl skit…
laugh every time.
I keep waiting for the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant to be made into a movie. It has everything and more: magic, good vs. evil, giants, elves, ogres, etc.. Okay, so the ‘hero’ is asshole and he rapes the damsel, so it isn’t exactly ‘Hollywood’ material. But, they explored something similar in the movie Hero with Dustin Hoffman.
HKM— it’s still probably better written than anything that Sephanie Meyer can pull out of her dried up vag. Speaking of dried up vag (or is it vag-es?), I’d rather read Margaret Atwood or Margaret Laurence.
zZz— that shit is funny. More Cowbell is up there with Celebrity Jeopardy, Landshark, and the Samurai Deli as my all time faves.
Hey tresorla, I realllly appreciate that you read the Twilight books so you have the right to say anything about them. I like them, but I know they’re bad. They entertained me, as they did you, but I did like them. I hate how people bash a book/movie/anything they don’t actually look into. I have never read a Harry Potter book, so I never say anything bad about them. I just don’t have the desire to read them. I, for the longest time, did not want to read or have any part of the Twilight books, but I got the 1st one for a gift so I read it, liked it, read the rest. Deal with it. I’m definitely not one of those people who obsess over it though!
On a side note, here is something absolutely disturbing that reminded me about people taking Twilight-things disturbingly too far: http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/Self-desc… and the picture they are talking about is somewhere on the internet..I’m not going to post it here ’cause I’m sure it’ll get deleted.
almost of enough cowbell “Hair of the Dog” : Nazareth; grumpy old man was fucking hilarious
almost enough cowbell “were an American band”: Grand funk railroad;eddie murphy gumby
reading sometimes sucks,i just like running my fingers and tongue over the glossy pics in “some” magazines.you guys know the type i mean, hhhhhhhh.thanks miss lala.
like running your fingers and tongue over other things Life Sucks??
wow melectric that is one strange person and i would know
Times have changed, its time to live in the present!
Ah yes, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The 1st book came out,..25 years ago?,..the 2nd last published in ’09.
Hard to give it justice with a trite description.
It’s the next evolution of LOTR. As the book version was to ‘The Hobbit’.
Myself and a co-worker sometimes quiz each other on the specifics.
I don’t generally read from this genre, and I only read it on a recommendation quite a few years ago, so I didn’t even know Donaldson wrote a 3rd part! I thought the 6th book pretty much tied everything up, and I never looked to see if there was more forthcoming. I mean, Covenant died! Although I fear it will not add in anyway to the first 6 books, I’ll check it out. If Covenant is alive again, I wonder how Donaldson manages that without it appearing soap opera-ish.
HKM on HRM: I hear ya on that. I thought six books tied it up nicely. It took me a while to warm up to the final set of four but it’s starting to pick up steam. It’s as different as the Sunbane was to books 4-6. Ur-viles are allies now. Sort of.
I think Harry Potter would kick Edward Cullen’s ass
(Shut up, I was out of reading material!!!)
But seriously, the books True Blood are based off of are like an x-rated Twilight
And Laurell K Hamilton’s Anita Blake series are also like an x-rated vampire/shape shifter/bad ass chick deal
…i spend too much time reading…
Reading never sucks Lifesucks, you just need to find what you like.
Why not try “Lost Girls” by Alan Moore?
I wish I was done school so that I could spend more time reading mind snap.
I want to read the true blood series, but thus far have just watched it on T.V. It’s fucking awesome.
I have her book “Real Murders” now that I am looking forward to. What could go wrong with a book about a librarian trying to solve a murder = ).
On a last note, have you watched “Thirst”? It’s a foreign movie, but it’s fucking amazing. If you like the more violent side of vampire-ism(?) I would highly recommended it.
yes angel that is on my list…she says sucking on her fangs
Mind Snap – NO SUCH THING!, and not just because I toil in 2 different sectors of the book business.
