Yes, we are all a bit down from the results of the election of a majority and YES it’s gonna be a rough few years… but people… get a fucking hold of yourselves! Some of you are going off the deep end and are sounding like a bunch of defeated lunatics. You talk like the world has gone to shit forever and you blame everything on everyone else. Stop dragging our spirits down with you. Also, how about doing some actual activism for fucks sakes instead of just mumbling like a bitch. —Undefeated

  1. First my comment – Big Steve’s win is the best thing in a long time…..

Question – I’m going to the UK for 3 weeks and do I use my Bell phone or do I buy a disposable – not a heavy user of phone/internet etc?

  2. Count 2 for disposable.

I don’t like this Harper majority either (his attitude towards daycares is attrocious), but it’s what the system produced and it doesn’t mean grassroots lobbying won’t work. In the words of Mayor Quimby, “If that is the way the wind blows, let it not be said that I do not also blow.”

  3. Disposable, leave your phone home. Roaming charges wil kill you, ad your phone might not work abroad.

  4. definitely disposable…
and the problem is that it likely WOULD work abroad and you would be nailed with the aforementioned roaming charges…

    Harper’s gonna bury atlantic canada.
why wouldn’t he? it’s not like he needs us for anything anyways….

  5. I’m not happy with Harper’s big win. There were some serious problems with his last government that were obviously ignored by many during the campaign or else were dismissed as not that important. Regardless of how one may feel about Harper’s economic plans or the Conservative Party’s social agenda, the Prime Minister’s ongoing abuse of the democratic process is troubling.

But I don’t consider a Harper majority government to be the end of the world. Discouraging perhaps, because I don’t think he is going to respond effectively to the challenges we face as a nation.

Under the guise of “keeping Canada competitive” he will continue to implement corporate tax cuts which most economists agree will have little stimulative impact on our economy, but which will aid the transfer of wealth to transnational corporations.

Under the guise of “fiscal restraint” he will cut program spending in areas that excite his supporters but I think that, in the end, many people will be surprised to find four years from now that Canada’s debt and deficit is even larger than it is now. There will be a realignment of spending priorities ($30 billion + for new fighters at the expense of spending on social programs like health transfer payments, etc.) but government spending as a whole won’t decrease.

He is beholden to the oil and gas sector and likely won’t encourage Canadians to become world leaders in green energy technologies. Under his “leadership” we will continue to yoke ourselves to the American energy plan, which is to do nothing but drill and drill some more.

With Harper’s promised elimination of the public campaign subsidy the challenge facing Canadian democracy will be to keep our political system from becoming awash in the kind of vast tsunami of cash that has inundated and corrupted the American political system.

Hopefully all this will become clear to Canadians in the coming years and at the next election they will make a reasoned choice about what kind of country they want to live in.

But I don’t think it’s the end of the world.

    Not yet.

  6. Because PDG: baby mamas should be at home doing the a’cookin’ and the a’cleanin’ and lookin’ after the chilluns waiting for her man to get home from a hard day’s work!

Let’s just say the conservative sect aren’t really realistic about the fact that female participation in the workforce is by far one of the greatest demographic shifts in the labour market since the 1970s EVER.

I totally blame at least 25% of the welfare moms out there that are on welfare on the fact that there’s no solid affordable daycare system in place for those moms to go out and make a decent living and get themselves off of social assistance. When you have to hand over the majority of your paycheque to childcare you’re just better off staying at home and spending that time with your kids rather than working your butt off for a big fat nothing.

My mom and i were talking about this and the amount she paid in the early/mid 80s for first my private nanny and then daycare/preschool was atrocious!

  7. Disposable.

Harper’s win was a sad day in Canada. His budget is a joke for the blue collar crowd. Cutting spending for planned parenthood is a slap in the face to anyone who uses those services – and many Canadians do – but we can afford fighter jets? I’m confused as to where his priorities lie.

In one fell swoop he managed to raise taxes in NS, and lower them here in AB, which just goes to show you that he pledges alliegence to the Alberta flag, not the maple leaf.

But, as many reported, history was made during this election. The liberal reign of wishy-washy platforming has been hit and left for dead; Quebec has shown tremendous support for the NDP over the Bloc, and we finally have a majority government with a very strong and vocal opposition. The next four years will give Harper enough rope to hang himself, and time for the NDP to get their shit in gear for their majority in 2015.

  8. Seriously who gives a fuck. Nothing is going to change. Canada will still be the same in 4 years time….letting any Mohammad into this country (even those associated with terrorist groups). Taxes won’t change. We’ll still be sending troops over to foreign countries to die fighting in wars that have no benefit or impact on Canadians. It’ll all be the same so relax.

  9. actually o.p., the sky did fall. but most just haven’t really saw it yet. when harpie puts you out on the street, because you cannot afford food, shelter or clothing, hey, we told you so. and the rest, as they say will be history.
but you say that things haven’t happened for the worst, no no yet, but he has a fixed term to trim your taxes, and anything else he wants to enact. yep, the worst is surely yet to come. that’s why all us hunter/gathers are looking for a nice spot in the country, to start the next civilization.

  10. I agree OP, The world is going to come to an end on Saturday anyway… so lets all just quit whining and have us some orgies.

  11. Really? I’m not down by the results, personally think its a good thing so speak for yourself not everyone.

  12. snoop, it’s actually may 24,2012. you got a whole year of being naughty to go yet, hint, hint. my other dark lord friends will be arriving on the 23rd. so be bad early, so you don’t miss all the fun.

  13. Basil – your phone will work in the UK. Buy a package from your provider before you go. Don’t use a payphone to call a UK cell number, you’ll get about 30 seconds for $1. The fine print in a booth is so small you need a magnifying glass. I was cut off on a lot of calls to people with a cell phone and took me a while to figure out why.
If Harper had not cut the GST from 7% to 5% we would now be paying 17% on most things we buy. National daycare would cost about $10 billion a year if every parent used it.
Maternity leave is of no use to people working in a small business, it is really a payoff to middle class people in the public sector who then get EI topped up to 90% courtesy of us taxpayers. Few people outside the public sector or large corporations can afford to take 12 months off and live on basic EI.

  14. In retrospect, I should also note that I’ve had plenty of ‘off by one’ errors in my day…
so if it doesn’t happen Saturday (*SHOCKED AND GHASP!!!) then I predict they will actually blame it on forgetting there is no ‘year 0’ and thus it will DEFINITELY be next year…

  15. this ain’t no lotto…. and my pope impression isn’t quite up to snuff.
I won’t even make it to the “you must be this pure to ride” sign.

“As the Scriptures reveal, after the Rapture of the Church, salvation will still be available to all, while at the same time we are shown that the vast majority left behind will increasingly despise the call of Christ. “

so what’s the big deal again???

  16. Well, I’m pretty sure I’ll be on the bus to hell.

Hope they serve vodka 7s down there.

  17. Snoop ….ORGIES ,
Are you crazy…there’s herpies out there….its invisible (most of the time) – Almost everyone by middle age has anti bodies to most of the common ones that effect humans.
There are at least 25 viruses in the family Herpesviridae…8 of which infect humans most commonly
    ….
After Petty’s comments about condoms not covering everything (& I totally agree with her being right in that assessment)
So Snoop, for the orgy to commence, I suggest full body condoms for all .
So Petty K, when is that bitch get together happening ? Don’t forget to report it here….& have fun you bitchin’ crazies ~;)

Oh & the full body condom site

    Enjoy !

  18. Lol, LIFE SUCKS is getting his raptures mixed up. The most well known rapture is May 24 2012 because of the Mayan calender bullshit.

    BUT

Another less known rapture is coming this Saturday, May 21st, according to Christian radio personality Harold Camping, while the actual destruction of the planet will happen on October 21st.

As a heathen atheist, I look forward to the five months of apocalyptic mayhem among all the other sinners left on earth.

  19. $10 billion is a small price to pay I think for subsidized childcare that will help GROW THE ECONOMY, and thus pay for itself, not like some fighter jets. Right now, it costs $20 a day for the worst possible unlicensed childcare for one kid. If you want people who know what they’re doing, it can be close to $45 a day depending on the age of the child. And ECEs, despite all the work they do, get paid peanuts.

  20. Childcare >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> stupid fighter jets with no engines.

  21. Harper Sucks Butt ???????

Why didn’t anybody tell me that the prime minister of Canada is a felcher?

    I need another drink.

  22. find another politico who’s constantly spewing shit and we can have a sequel….

    “2 conservatives, 1 cup”.

  23. well it was supposed to start @ 6pm in New Zealand…
why wouldn’t it be all simultaneous?
it’s going to follow the sun to ensure … what… we’re all awake at the time it ‘happens’?

man, if they were smart, they would have brought out another bioshock game based on the rapture novel they released….
another missed opportunity. Unless of course they are just waiting for the 2012 rapture…
not to be confused with the current rapture.. or the one in October.

  24. There’s one in October? Lol. Now this is just getting ridiculous.

They should make a Bioshock film.

  25. I hate Bioshock, I mean it’s a good game, but that little girl scares the shit out of me. Seriously I never beat that game because I was too afwaid…

I have to stop gaming in the dark.

  26. “but we can afford fighter jets? I’m confused as to where his priorities lie.”

Canada’s military spending is something like 96th out of 160 militarized states. Not exactly big spenders. Air forces aren’t superfluous; Sir Thomas More is dead.

“In one fell swoop he managed to raise taxes in NS, and lower them here in AB “

Whoa there. Harper cut the GST by 1% on July 1, 2006, and an additional 1% on January 1, 2008. Darrell Dexter went against his campaign promise and reversed those cuts on July 1, 2010, making NS the most taxed province in Canada.

Seriously woman. WTF? Opinion is one thing; being 100% wrong on an objective issue is something altogether different.

    “Nothing is going to change.”

You can bet the long gun registry will.
