…and I’ve driven in Montreal, Mexico and Thailand.
For the love of Christ – stop suddenly stopping to let opposing traffic turn left – you’re not being courteous – you’re being dangerous!!! And when people want to merge, it works like a zipper – I’m not trying to “budge” you fucking morons, I’m just trying to get to work. Hell – I don’t even really want to go work- why the fuck do you care if I get there 8 feet in front of you?!!!! OH – and if you’re planning on pulling over; turn your signal on BEFORE you start braking.

Fuck, I so hate people who stop to ‘let someone go left’.
Stop doing it you fucks!
I totally agree with OP. Many drivers in this city cannot grasp the concept of courtesy – it’s all a fucking mad rush to go nowhere. I have seen so many brain-free lumps of road rage behind the wheel lately – endangering others because they just have to pass that line of cars, double yellow line or no. I really don’t give a sweet shit whether they kill themselves – let the gene pool be cleansed – it’s the innocent people who become victims of these impatient, unpredictable morons.
Theres no way you have actually driven in Thailand if you cannot handel halifax traffic with out pulling your hair out. Perhaps you were behind the wheel of a vehicle in mexico , but I doubt you had to navigate anywhere. HAlifax is pretty tame. even montreal would probibly make you start to cry.
The most dangerous place is bens bakery on the #7 going to cole harbour… people stop to let a car out of the parking lot turn left while the car coming behind them thinks they are just turning into it, and go around them and smoke the car turning left. Pretty sure there have been a few deaths there in past years.
The thing that annoys me the most is probably the selfish asshats that rush up the middle lane on the MacD bridge and then push their way into the right lane near the end of the bridge backing up both lanes in the process. There should be dividers stopping the self-entitled from doing this. All the bridges I drove on in NYC had them, there were points were you could cross lanes but they were at points were this type of asshat-ery could not be committed.
If you truly think Halifax is home to the “Worst Drivers EVER” then you’re a fucking idiot. Halifax is NOTHING compared to other cities in N.A. let alone parts of Asia. So you’ve been to Mexico and Thailand; there’s a big difference from using an experienced driver from that area and driving there yourself.
Go cry some more and walk to work if you can’t handle the crazy dangerous drivers of Halifax.
Andrew Keith: totally agree with you about that location, but the other factor in making that area dangerous are the speeders who don’t slow down to 50 km/h like the sign tells them to. Accidents are still possible at that speed but usually not fatal.
DER?: you’re bang on about the MacDonald bridge. Best thing you can do there is not let anyone in. Yes, some sucker will eventually but it’s satisfying to know that it wasn’t you.
Most place work like a zipper because they use “MERGE” signs. Halifax generally does not use these signs, instead they use “yield” signs so technically it shouldn’t work like a zipper, a vehicle driver must slow down and prepare to stop if necessary. You can sit there all day until there is an opportunity to safely enter because Halifax does not feel like putting merge signs up or Halifax drivers were stupid to merge safely and they took them back down
The Dartmouth side of the MacDonald bridge is a design disaster and causes this behavior at times. I cannot tell you how many times in the evening rush that some idiot in the right lane decides that their lane lets them use any of the 4 rightmost toll slots, while ALL of us poor saps stuck in the left lane can ONLY use the left turn lane. Heading the other way in the morning, if you are in the left lane on Nantucket you cannot get over to the right lane no matter how hard you try, so you have to find a gap while on the bridge.
The funnels in the toll plazas need some lines on the pavement at a minimum, or better yet some kind of dividers, to prevent the asshats from diving across 5 lines of traffic when they think they see a gap. But the usually brain-dead HDBC does nothing.
Bridges are fucked, not matter what one you use. There should be 1 change lane and all others MacPass. They can’t really fix the funnel effect of the bridges, they’re just a shitty design, built for a city in the 1800’s. They need a better fucking transit system here. Why isn’t there a “perimeter” train that runs from Eastern Passage, around Bedford, and into S.E. Halifax? I’m considering a fucking scooter.
Bastard fish, I tend to agree with you about Asia…..least we’re not driving down the street and seeing splattered brains on the road…Driving in Asia has the resemblance to ten year old boys playing a game of unmanned “chicken” with their dinky cars.
It is a small town people- take it easy, leave earlier or just go away.
Halifax does have it’s fair share of shit-for-brain drivers…But it is a trend of Humans, not just Haligonians…Humans everywhere are de-evolving, getting more stupid by the year. Having no foresight and no consideration for other Humans and Life. Stunted or Retarded, would be another description for humans.
But it is entertaining to see some of you getting all bend out of shape when someone slaggs Halifax or it’s citizens…You Fucking Babies : )
