Where did I mention accents or “fancy education” exactly? No where. Still, now that you mention it, education does matter quite a bit and quite often. Slack jawed idiots come from all walks but simply defending them just because someone with half a brain, no exposure to the real/outside world and a two bit opinion happens to been born on this particular piece of geography is absolute stupidity and a loss for everyone here.I’m not bitter about NS. I’m bitter that a place with such potential continues to shoot itself in the foot because it just “has” to throw everything behind a local person saying X. Like it or not, the only places in the world that prosper (and we need it) are exposed to many influences. It doesn’t mean identity is lost. It just means growth and strengthening of this place!Oh and yeah, toss another couple insults my way any time. Very productive.

Exactly!The brain dead, dry rot in all forms of corporate and government work here needs to be exterminated. Yet…that cannot happen until this place grows a thicker skin and understands that hey…maybe, just maybe people in other places do actually know something we could learn from and heck, perhaps we shouldn’t be so stupidly knee jerk critical of anything besides the status quo!There are great people around but there’s also a lot of toe jam living in a world of 30 years ago. I am personally insainely sick of hearing the “go back to TO” BS comments when it gets criticized. Fer christos sake people, we may be off the track geographically but with things like the net we can actually stay pretty damm connected now! Time to clean house in the attitude department.

I just wanted to make a quick comment. I don’t feel that there is any need to insult people from here, there or anywhere so I won’t, but I do have this to say, if everybody would take the time to understand what is going on around them it would give everybody the chance to learn from each other. Don’t just learn from your own mistakes, we need to learn from others mistakes as well. Everything is viewed in such a negative manner now a days. It doesn’t have to be that way. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and views on what is going on but that doesn’t give anybody the right to hurl insults at others just because they are pissed off. I guess the point is that there seems to be sooo much stereotyping around these days…there’s no need! Take the time to learn about others instead of being so hateful. I for one am proud of being a Nova Scotian and Canadian…I’m proud to be who I am and there’s nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in, just make sure you know the facts first so you can make a logical argument. Also, part of being proud of what and who you are is being able to recognize when there is a way to improve….I think there are a lot of things that can be improved in this province, this country and in this world so why not take the time to all come together and make the changes that need to be made. Nothings perfect….everything needs improvement. This is something that needs to be realized whether we like it or not otherwise we will never see ourselves advance.

I would agree that Haligonians are in fact insulted daily by “comefromaways” – particularly Ontarians. I’ve always found that Montrealers, Vancvouverites, and other visitors seem to be able to appreciate the place for what it is, but Torontonians, with their “world class” aspirations and attendant insecurities, need to put the small towen down and can’t even bring themselves to mouth the word “Halifax” without some sort of snicker or condescending “weellll in Toroooonnnto…” remark. At least in my experience…Having said that, I agree that the tendency of many Halibillies to respond “go home Toronto bitch” to any percveived slight only reinforces the stereotypes, showing xenophobia, ignorance, and probably an insecure resentment of the “big city sophisticates”.How about learning to talk about the positives of the city to educates and break down some of the stereotypes, instead of the juvenile knee-jerk name-calling?

I to am from TO, there are alot more things that I dislike about Toronto than Halifax. At least here I find people are real and they care, unlike the cold cold concrete jungle of Toronto and Mississauga, where people slam the doors in your face, are more than willing to run you over in a cross walk simply because they all think that they are some big Bay Street boys speeding around in their rented Hummers and BMW’s talking on the cell phone to look important. They can have their pollution, congestion, rudeness, Mel Lastman, David Miller, Dalton McGinty, but you have to Love Hazel McCallion. Here the waters are still pristine with the exception being Hfx Harbour, the air is fresh, people are respectful and courteous, I actually know my neighbours and my neighbours friends here. Life is an absolute pleasure here, a better quality of life whereas Toronto is nothing but a lousy exsistence anymore, so much time stuck in traffic and travelling to and from work. Glad I am here thank you to the hospitable people

Halifax isn’t that bad. It’s cozy, and it’s home. Cliqueish at times, but we’re all from small towns it seems. It is true that at some point in our lives we can all make the concious decision to think outside the box; to see & experience what is out there. It’s true that most of the youth from Halifax have been ‘dumbed down’ by the man and the media. They think it’s cool to hurt people and steal their things, or to have a gun and be on the streets. Image. Wtf? I went through a phase too, but….Back to the point. Nova Scotians (Haligonians especially) need to stand up for themselves and tell the government, that is taxing the fuck out of us, to back off, to give us what we pay for in tax dollars. And again, back to the point, Comefromaway. Just because you have been everywhere and seen everything, and aparantly know how to run the world, why don’t you run for Mayor or something and then maybe we can take your bigotry seriously.
