Why do we need all these new stop signs and traffic lights at intersections that never had them? Personally I have found that the flow has been killed by these new implementations.
And why did the Armdale rotary get a make over? The one and only problem with it was that people were blocking the exits of the rotary. A sign with a hefty fine would have cleared that up. And years ago I went to a City Hall meeting and suggested making Quinpool Rd. a 3 lanes up in the morning and 3 lanes down in the evening. Parking would be interrupted for 2 hours a day only, and half that would be morning when businesses are not even open. But no, the Muppets in City Hall had to get everyone all shook up over Chebucto Road and then what did they do there? The lane switch thing that I had suggested for Quinpool Rd.! The crux here people is that it all had to be done in the summer monthes when tourism is at its maximum (great impression folks!). Alot of other regions do their road maintenance at night. So now we have slowed traffic with more stops, we have disgruntled residents up and down and around Chebucto and meanwhile lots of the traffic that should have stayed on Quinpool Rd out of the rotary are now racing through school zones to get to work on time. What a Muppet Show- but that is an insult to the Muppets. Frankly it smells like someone is ‘on the take’. Where is this money tree and how do I get in on it?

In case you didn’t notice, the Armdale Rotary finally works properly and you can actually get through it. And Chebucto works well with no significant changes for the residents.
I do agree that roadwork should be done at night whenever possible, though in the case of Chebucto that would not have been possible with the hypersensitive residents.
I always found the rotary confusing. I was never sure whether it was “let 2 cars go and then you go” or if it was one car. Now it’s easy as fuck – you just go when you get a chance.
And quinnpool road flows WAY better with the addition of pedestrian lights for the school crossing guard by Gaudet Optical.
The rotary is a 100% improvement for cars AND BIKES. No shitting, I’m serious. Been biking and driving through it for 15+ years 5 days a week and would never want to see it go back.
Readjust your tinfoil hat, I don’t think city hall disrupted chebucto to distract from your (and about god knows how many other people’s, btw) suggestion for quinpool road.
In Dartmouth they did it right. Got rid of the damn thing completely
Mole Rat, the rotary ALWAYS worked this way. You don’t stop and let cars into the rotary, you keep going if you’re in the circle… Maritimers are way too nice, stopping for everything, everywhere, anytime.. Holy crap!
Suggestions:
-1st of all, when HRM builds roads, they should contract someone other than Lafarge or whoever does it now. I am convinced Nova Scotia doesn’t have the expertise to do this properly. But whoever built Inglis street near SMU should build the rest of HRM’s roads, its the best road quality i’ve ever seen.
-Downtown Barrington should be one way going north (from Inglis to wherever)
-Scrap the median on Connaught, yeah sure its green space, but use the space for exclusive median bus lanes and stations. Buses are priority.
-Bedford Highway should put in exclusive median bus lanes and stations, rather than curbside stations, buses in curbside lanes are retarded. Move them to the median like they are in real cities.
-Quinpool is fucked, make it one way or something.

Cptstubing— the rotary didn’t always work that way. Now it’s a traditional roundabout, which is people who are in in the circle have the right of way and you wait until there is a chance to get into the roundabout. The old rotary would have you barge into line as it was 1 and 1. As far as the roadwork being done in the summer and the the height of “tourist” season, um, since when was Chebucto Road such a tourist trap?

The rotary was always a traditional roundabout. A rotary is a rotary, people however got smart and realised that they shouldn’t stop while driving in the circle, as it defeats the purpose of the whole bloody thing. The new signs helped a lot, and suddenly nice people stopped stopping to let others inside the circle.
Before people didn’t realise the concept of a rotary, now they do, but not because the rotary changed, but because people changed.
cptstubing, you are mistaken. In 2005 the Motor Vehicle Act was amended to change the law governing right of way in a rotary or roundabout. Prior to October 2005, traffic in and approaching the Armdale Rotary, or any other rotary/roundabout in the province, was required to merge one to one. After that date, right of way was legally given to traffic already in the circle. This was an actual change in law.
Just seems like alot of interruption and expense that just a little common sense would have avoided. I enjoy running every new stop sign and will always barge the rotary.
