We all misplace, lose, or forget our personal items at times. It just happens. It’s happened to me a few times over the years here and I’ve been fortunate each time to have my things returned. A coat, wallet, bike, and hockey gear to be exact. I was pleasantly surprised and had an instant “Like” for Haligonians and their honest actions.

I’ve recently had a string of bad luck and left a backpack behind by mistake at a popular downtown eatery and lost a phone at a local watering hole. I hoped that someone would have made an effort to return my property considering in both cases my information was clearly obtainable to trace it back to me, the rightful owner.

Honest hearts produce honest actions. Perhaps the long, cold harsh winter has frozen the hearts of some of this cities residents. Or, maybe we just live among a discouraging amount of dishonest people.

Either way, I’d like to send out a HUGE FUCK YOU to the PIECE OF SHIT COCKSUCKER who claimed my bag for his own and another GO FUCK YOURSELF PRICK to whoever found my hardly worth taking, older model smartphone and couldn’t use the email address clearly marked on it to return it back to me.

Karma … will find you. —Shit Out Of Luck

  1. WINE & RUM

“I’ve recently had a string of bad luck and left a backpack behind at a popular downtown eatery and lost a phone at a local watering hole.” Shit Out Of Luck

That wasn’t a string of bad luck. It was too much wine at the popular downtown eatery and too much rum at the local watering hole. Next time it will probably be your pants.

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  2. It’s unfortunate but there seem to be a small minority of the population who are prolific repeat offenders. It’s almost as if they are unable to resist any opportunity for misdeeds.

I suspect that many repeat offenders suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome which tends to make people very impulsive. I remember many years ago seeing a very pregnant woman at a bar. Shockingly, she appeared to be very drunk at the time. I’ve wondered over the years what became of the poor child.
    According to one U.S. study:
    – rates of incidence of FAS are 3 per 1000 births – if the rates were anywhere near the same here we would have hundreds of victims of various ages alive at any given time
    – 60% of those have trouble with the law
    – 50% are confined (in detention, jail, prison, or a psychiatric or alcohol/drug inpatient setting)
    – 49% exhibit inappropriate sexual behaviours on repeated occasions
    – 35% have alcohol/drug problems.

  3. Jesus, sounds like you need to start being more careful with your shit.

Check to make sure you have everything before you leave sort of thing.

  4. Yeah, it’s everyone else’s responsibility to return the shit you leave laying around. Kinda sucks, but it seems like your luck has run out. Did you learn a valuable lesson?

  5. How do we know that it was a Haligonian? Maybe it was someone from another city…?!

Heavens know how honest and hard-working we Haligonians are…

And we don’t leave our stuff lying around for people from other cities to steal.

  6. You’re a drunk. Get help. Stop blaming others for the consequences of your drinking problem.

  7. It sucks to lose stuff – really, it does. It’s certainly nice when someone is honest and puts it aside for you, but I’ve found that being nice to people around me helps me build karma. If you’re a regular at said establishments but your stuff is lost forever when you leave it behind, you’re doing something wrong. A regular who treats the staff and other customers well is far more likely to get their lost items back.
