Forget about that rag, the Chronically Horrid. It was horrible before the strike, unbelievably horrible after it. The Metro aka the Point Form News doesn’t count. We need another Daily News with fearless reporting. All we have now is Frank Magazine (with REAL journalists!) but that only comes out every two weeks. —Joe Howe Would Have Been Horrified

I blame the regressive’s.
And a decent weekly paper; you forgot a decent weekly paper…
I had the Saturday paper delivered, for the puzzles and headlines for the week….
that is until they, (without notice), upped my billing from $4 to $12!
muhuh, IMO, if the newspaper would go back to kids as a means of delivery, two things would happen.
1. the paperboys/girls would grow up with a bit of responsibility
2. the newspaper would pay less overhead
The Chronicle Herald reads like a high school newspaper that hasn’t been proofread. That cheap ass owner needs to punt her useless spouse to the curb and reinstate actual journalists before this ‘paper of record’ becomes a honking big wad of bathroom tissue plugging the toilet. How embarrassing is it to live in a city that doesn’t have one decent daily?!
Try The Halifax Examiner. Daily news & opinions, investigative pieces, etc, all by paid journalists and no verbatim press releases allowed. Or check out Local XPress, with daily news / sports / entertainment news from the CH’s striking writers. The Coast’s Jacob Boon and The Examiner’s Tim Bousquet attend municipal council when it sits and their respective Twitter feeds are a great way to keep up with municipal issues. The student papers from Kings and NSCC journalism programs have done good things. FRANK certainly serves a purpose but there are other alternatives for news. They’re just not sitting in newspaper boxes on every corner.
Want a decent Daily? Start one.
Let me check my pockets. Nope, just lint and a guitar pick. Won’t be starting up a daily today.
The Herald has improved by leaps and bounds since the strike began. It’s a young, energetic new staff and it’s been sort of fun watching them find their way.
Many people find other ways beside personal finances to get things started. Excuses don’t make things happen.
Frank is as loathsome as Gawker, but without any of the skill that at least made Gawker entertainingly loathsome.
In other words, Frank sucks.
“The Herald has improved by leaps and bounds since the strike began.”
Mark Lever? Is that you?!?
Your grasp of the English language must be right around a grade 2 level if you think that there has been an improvement at the herald since the strike.
Improved?! From what? Crayon printing on toilet paper?! The Herald has been a joke since old man Dennis departed from this mortal coil to become the richest man in the graveyard.
Comparing Frank to Gawker doesn’t make a lick of sense. First off, Frank magazine has never exposed footage of Killer Karl Krupp in flagrante delicto. Secondly, they provide a great service to this community – by offering actual hardnose journalism that often involves turning over many Happy Face rocks to get to the core of a story. With today’s fluff media, little wonder real journalists aren’t appreciated anymore. Frank magazine is our Woodward & Bernstein and I love them for it.
