I’m sick and tired of getting stuck behind a wall of slow walkers. I’m sick and tired of people walking obliviously (such as typing a text message) and almost running into me. I’m sick and tired of complete idiots who stop right in front of me and almost running into them but most of all I’m sick and tired of asshats who feel no need to move out of your way and force you onto the grass or into the street. FUCK!

Ridiculous. The rest of us are not in a rush because you are in a rush.Spring Garden is the one ‘avenue’ in the city where people stroll, look at each other and enjoy the feeling of being in a city. Halifax is small and it has only one place to do this. Don’t screw that up.
Sidewalk-hogs are self-absorbed jackasses – especially the ones who aren’t just moving slowly, but have just decided to stop in the middle of the sidewalk and have a half-hour group chitchat. It’s a public thoroughfare. Get the fuck out of the way and make room for people trying to get by.
Go around them, crybaby.
I don’t think your a cry baby. I think you absolutely right. I have to do business on Spring Garden Road almost daily. This for me means spending 5 minutes in the bank and 30 walking across the road, down a block and around a corner to get back to work. I understand that SGR is a place for tourists etc. but could you at least not walk in three across and take up the whole bloody sidewalk. As for going around Neal… you step off the curb onto SGR – or any other street in this city for that matter- and see how many people scream at you or how long it takes to get hit.
Ok I get the texting thing, that’s really annoying. As for the rest of it, sorry, didn’t realize walking was meant to be completely and utterly efficient 100% of the time.
I can see OP’s point. Try getting by three yakking lardbuckets shoulder to shoulder on SPR, waddling at a turtle’s pace. The only alternative seems to be stepping off the curb, passing on the road and hoping that you won’t get creamed by a fucking bus. Resolution: take side streets and avoid SPR altogether.
I find “excuse me please” usually works very well
i have no problem with saying excuse me. but when the ipods are up so loud i can sing along, excuse me doesn’t work. SGR is a mine field to navigate through so due to my impatience, i sneak up south park street to sackville street and get where i’m going…which is usually work. it wouldn’t be so bad if people wern’t self centered. every few blocks, look over your shoulder, let people pass if they wanna, halifax is beautiful and i would wander up the street all day if i could, but i have to go to work.
walking slowly is one thing. not knowing where you’re going or taking time to enjoy the city, that’s fine. waht gets me is what someone else mentioned already- those clusters of people who stop dead, totally blocking the sidewalk to have a chat. want to stop and talk? those sidewalks are fairly wide- take your little huddle out of the stream of traffic and leave at least a little space for people to trickle past. I’ve seen peopel do this at intersections too nd it drives me up the wall! I was walking back from the fireworks on Canada day and there’s a whole crowd of them completly blocking a crosswalk,a nd when my group of friends and I tried to get around/through them they laughed and said something like ‘oh yeah we’re awesome, taking up the whole side walk, hahahaha’. and it wasn’t said in a ‘oh gee I’m sorry I’ll move’ way, but rather in a self-entitled to take up the entire globe tone…grrr
