Why are people complaining about cruise lines going to Haiti after the earthquake to a port 60km away from Port-Au-Prince? It is a brilliant plan to remove the income of the people living in Labadee by shutting down the cruise line port because of the earthquake. The people of Labadee should be starving along with the people of Port-Au-Prince after all. Showing unity?

Just because someone goes on vacation in or around Haiti doesn’t mean they are oblivious to the suffering. People know that the earthquake is a massive tragedy but shutting down the entire country’s economy for some undeterminable proper amount of time is stupid.

  1. The only problem I have are cruise lines in general. Disease-ridden pollution barges. They should all be scuttled and the shareholders flogged.

  2. I agree with Stupidity is Rife. Maybe people don’t understand that there are people in Haiti who were totally unaffected by the earthquake. Would we shut down Halifax if a quake struck Montreal?

  3. in the love the way we love section, there is a poster from haiti, sending thanks to us all, and the sad point is, this post is two days old, and there wasn’t one, not one fucking acknowledgement to that writer.just fucking sad. maybe we should take a minute to read some of those posts, might be surprised at what you will find. i was.

  4. Taking tourists and their money to Haiti can’t be a bad thing for Haiti. Maybe some of those tourists who see the devastation might not only appreciate what they have, as Bro Tim said, but maybe they will see fit to share some of it with those who have-not.

  5. Lisababe, only for a daylong street party and subsequent liquor fuelled riot. Might even get our own NHL team out of it.

  6. I believe that not only should they be going there, more should be encouraged to come. Besides bring much needed supplies , which are entering the country from another place instead of joining the bottle neck we’ve all heard of in the Capital city.
They are keeping local people employed, & that incoming wealth trickles through the economy & cannot but help out those who at this time don’t really need help…but would probably need help soon …IF YOU CANCEL THE TOURISTS WHICH IS THEIR LIVELYHOOD. —you stund fucks–
Anyone who can’t see that, are the same people, who can never see the forest. Because all those trees in the country , get in the way !

  7. The cruise industry is one of the leading industries on earth for recycling, and environmentally conscious practices. Everything you can think of gets recycled, even the water.

A cruise ship brings over 1 Million US dollars in revenue to a each port it visits, everytime it shows up… and many many jobs. If the people of Haiti are well equipped enough to still bring in cruise ships they damn well should!
