I believe these gangstas should be charged with obstruction when they refuse to cooperate in an investigation. The man-hours for our police resources is costing money so perhaps we can send the bill to the arsehole. Oops, we the taxpayer are the arseholes for paying this bill as well as the thugs monthly allowance which allows the person to drive an Escalade while we take public transit to work.
I actually agree with the OP. Harper wants to get tough on crime? Enact a law that enales the police to tell health professionals to refuse treatment. I understand Kay that it is “Barbaric”. However something extreme needs to be done here. These little gangstah wannabee punks (which is what they are) should be left to bleed to death. The cops and Doctors can then concentrate on people who actually WANT help.

I hate to say this, but I actually have to agree with Kay. Most health care professional are there to HELP people. They would be going against their principles if they denied health care to an injured person, regardless of whether or not the “victim” was co-operating with the police. However…. the hospitals here in NS do operate on a triage based system. The COULD be a law passed that all uncooperative “persons” are automatically moved to the back of the line. That’s not denying them health care at all, it’s just using the system in an advantageous way.

I disagree. I lived in a bad area of town out in BC, and I didn’t say shit about anything to the police. Sometimes it’s just not worth it. It’s waaaay worse being the neighbourhood rat. You’d probably have to move away.
Money isn’t everything. Many of us would gladly give up material possessions in exchange for safety or the safety of our families.
Shifting the patient to the end of the line because of his nature and not the nature of his injuries is all fine and good until that decision lands someone dead and then ultimately the death is the fault of health professionals and not the gangters who actually put him there.
Let your sympathies fall onto the 1 or 2 or 3 kids whose baby-daddy some of you wish death upon who may still pay child support and hold down a job someday and and and. Let your sympathies fall onto their mothers whose heart breaks when even the “crackiest of heads” falls under a gun.
If we assume the shootings are about crack or somehing like it then let’s remember our favourite rock starts falling under the same “spell” in Hollywood. I’m not from the HRM originally and I’ll admit I don’t know much of its crime history. However, weren’t things a little less gun crazy when the Hells were in town? Hog…I believe that if the police could get someone who isn’t cooperating in front of a judge & they refused to answer a judges questions, aka-cooperate, then I believe the judge could order them held indefinately on a contempt charge…I just don’t know how you get an unwilling gun shot victim in front of the judge .

If by some reason you are witness to a crime, it behooves you to perpetuate what we as Canadians stand for and do what is right. You see an accident, you stop and be a witness. If you see a shooting, you damned well better give a statement. It is not your RIGHT to turn a blind eye to a crime. It is not your RIGHT to AID and ABET by not saying anything. what sort of inconvenience would it be if the same person who shot someone was free and on the lam, and by coincidence killed or wounded one of your family or friends BECAUSE you didnt say something earlier. I wouldnt be able to sleep at night knowing i held my tongue…would you?
Maybe the shooting victim feared cooperation with the police would result in retaliation by the shooter. Not saying it’s right but it does happen.
sure i agree oceanlady, however, by not cooperating, the shooter is still on the streets…is that better…and likely the shooter still wants to get at the person he shot at.
