How much tax payers money are YOU willing to spend to repair and upgrade an old building? I’m not saying i’m against preserving old buildings, but who pays? and how much is too much? Obviously some of the buildings in question require too much work. .
Mr. McCrea wields WAY to much influence in this province…..remember the sweetheart deal he got with John Buchanan (Founders Square?). It took a lot of guts for the Mayor to imply what he….too bad Ben threatened to sue
Halifax needs to move out of the 17th century. Progress is hard for some people, especially those who want to keep our downtown as a Victorian museum. Our moron socialist HRM Council have put up the “Closed” sign for business in the downtown by rejecting a good proposal that would have protected heritage while allowing a new building to be built. Meanwhile the moron from the Heritage Trust wants tax dollars spent to have the province buy the buildings so that they can sit neglected and become even more run-down. Halifax is getting exactly what it deserved by electing this bunch of class clowns as our council.
It’s about time that this city got it’s head out of it’s ass with regard to urban development. The Heritage Trust are a bunch of grey haired people that want to ” save ” heritage properties. I get the drift, but the way they played their cards on this one allowed the Armour Group to plow the property under and potentially turn it into a parking lot. Way to go you assholes. This city is crying for class A space. The fact that the vote was a tie with our pink eyed Mayor unavailable to vote is another issue.Wake up and build something new already.
I like Halifax because of the heritage, but something definetly needs to be done so the downtown can survive. Remember what it use to be like on Barrington street?I liked the concept of the proposal, the existing building stays, while the tower stretches out the top. I think its a good compromise, admitadlly, without knowing the specifics.
I think Keith said it best. Yeah, I’m scared too.I find it funny that Phil Pacey somehow keeps getting media attention whenever he opens his mouth. Heritage is great, but not when the buildings are utter crap on the inside and people aren’t in the downtown to see them because nothing new has happened. I saw nothing wrong with keeping the facade as the inside of that building needed major work.Halifax needs a new media whore.
The Council is constantly bitching about the heritage buildings. “the city should buy them”, “the city should fix them up.” I think the Heritage Concil or whatever the fuck they call themselves, should shut the fuck up, and butt the fuck out. What they are actually doing, is PREVENTING the renewal and the restoration of these buildings by not letting ANYONE, do ANYTHING with/to them. I say a BIG FUCK YOU to them and HRM. You are all a bunch of closed minded, backwards, idiots. I love this downtown, it could be so beautiful. Historic and modern. The developers were actually trying to do THE RIGHT THING…now what are we going to get? A Fucking Parking Lot????? Stupid fucking HRM. WAKE THE FUCK UP YOU MORONS!!!!
sry, typo, council, not concil…
