Hey young people in the work force: When you schedule a meeting with someone, please make an attempt to be on time. People’s schedules are busy, and stopping here there and everywhere on your way is bad form. Things happen, I understand that, but when I schedule a meeting with you and you’re late because the line at your local coffee shop was “really long,” you really show just how much you have to learn about the professional work force. This advice especially applies if the people you’re meeting with actually travel to your office from another location to meet with you and/or you want something from the person you’re meeting with. If you actually get your crap together and be where you’re supposed to be on time, people will be more likely to work with you, give you what you’re asking for and help you make favourable professional network connections. —You’re Not Kids Anymore

I would like to say that this not an issue that applies solely to youth in society and I would appreciate it very much if you would take your generalizations and shove them up your ass. I have encountered countless ‘grown ups’ who were late for scheduled meetings and showed no respect for others’ time.

I’m a young worker and i agree that is not just young people. A perfect example is i had a job interview for a government position 2 days ago. We did it over skype. The person interviewing me was 10 minutes late and showed up to his computer in his bathing suit because he “had just gotten out of his pool and forgotten about the interview”. I was interviewed over webcam for a nova scotia government job by a guy in a bathing suit.

Anyway. While I do see this in all age groups in the work force, I find overall I see it most in the younger kids just coming into the professional workforce. While there are plenty of responsible younger workers out there, I see A LOT of irresponsibility on the part of the under 25ers. And it goes just beyond this bitch, too — asking support staff to do ridiculous things for them, thinking they know all the answers (because obv people who have 10-20-30 years experience on them know nothing), etc….
The majority of my co workers are younger workers and it definitely tests my patience and even makes me bananas some days.
After a few hard lessons, though (and some firings — I’ve seen this happen), they wise the fuck up.
It’s just so sad that people entering the workforce don’t have these skills. They have the academic skills, but have no clue what proper etiquette is when working with others in professional situations.
PS: I have actually fired individuals because of irresponsibility in the work place and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

I don’t mind being a few minutes late for someone else’s meeting IF I can’t avoid it…
(no, coffee lines are not an excuse… duh… and damn well apologize for it too)
but if I schedule the meeting, then I’d sure as shit better be punctual or I’ve purposely wasted people’s valuable time and they don’t take too kindly to that…

the one i was interviewing for started at 55-60k depending on experience
