It annoys me to find people answering their cell phones when being served in public areas, such as gas stations, restaurants, shopping centers, etc. Is the call really that important that you have to literally ignore the person taking care of you? How about tossing your money at them while you ramble on about how that next hair appointment is just ‘so’ important.
We don’t talk on the phone when we’re dealing with you, show us some respect and mute your phone, wait till later, or even keep the phone off. It’s rude, ignorant, and it makes you look like a tool. You should thank us for having the patience to serve you when we’re obviously nonexistent outside the speaker of your cell.
I hope all of you read this and realize I’m not the only one who thinks this way, and maybe, maybe next time you’ll pretend we’re living and breathing too.

Agreed!
i posted a bitch about just this not too long ago. glad to hear i’m not the only one having this problem
I hate customer service people who tell me to wait because they’re on the phone and its a personal call.
Then they’re inconsiderate as well, there is no difference. It’s simply rude to be talking on the phone like that.
It used to be you could pick out the crazies fairly easily………… they were the one’s walking down the street talking to themselves. Now everybody’s doing it! …………It’s a bit unnerving!
I do this sometimes, although I usually only take the important calls. All you need to do is ring something through, do you need me to stare at you while you work the machine or push some buttons? If someone isn’t holding the line up, it’s not like you need a personal connection to get your cheque. This does make me sound like a dick, I know, but shit comes up sometimes. It’s not personal.
It’s rude. Just because someone calls doesn’t mean you have to answer. You can call them back in like 2 minutes. No, they don’t need your help ringing things through, but they are going to talk to you to ask for money and give you change. It’s a human being on the other side of the counter, not your home computer with E-bay. If you really really HAVE to take a call is it that hard to say “sorry but I have to take this”? At least that way you are ackowledgeing the other persons existence with more than a dismissive hand wave.
I talk on my phone while going threw the checkout if I feel like it. I tell the person on the phone to hold on a second, say hello, how are you to the cashier, give them my money, say thanks and leave! I work in costumer service and I have no problem when people do it when I’m serving them. ALTHOUGH, it’s annoying when people come in to my work to eat, and they are sitting at the table with their menus closed and yacking on their phones, I wait until they are finished to go take their order, but they seem annoyed that I didn’t take it sooner.. But hey, that’s what happens in costumer service, DEAL WITH IT.
Costumer service? Like, a service that provides costumes? Cooooool. 😛
ohnogogo- how the fuck did people like you SURVIVE before cell phones?!?! That is what gets me. We went for fucking years without having to check crackbook every 30 seconds or text someone or answer their call yet now people feel taht they just “HAVE” to take this call!! Makes me wonder how the fucking world survived using payphones and actually going an hour without talking to someone on a cell. I mean really, if you don;t take that fucking call is someone going to die?
I’d like to add on an addendum to this bitch: if you absolutely have to have your ringer on, please, oh please, leave it on a normal ringtone. I really don’t give a flying fuck if you just discovered “Dick in a Box” or “I’m on a Boat”. Please also put it on a normal volume level, not blaring. Just some common sense tips— obviously people aren’t about to give up their cell phones.
I never said I was dismissive of the employees, I have my money ready and waiting and reply to their questions. I have my phone on for work, sometimes an important call comes up. I appreciate the human being handling my order or purchase, but I get paid by the human being calling me on the phone. That sort of wins out.
I don’t have an issue with people being on the phone while I’m serving them, so long as they aren’t completely ignoring me, or acting annoyed because I’m “interrupting” them.
General rudeness is annoying, but can be dealt with. That said, I can’t stand it when people are holding up my line because they’re distracted by their phones (or any other stupid reason, really). Wake up, people! Do you not see the line of 20 forming behind you?! GRRR.
You’re kidding, right?
How many times have I been at the service desk of a shop and the clerk “excuses himself” (or not) and takes a call?!
I stood in a marina store once where 3 guys stood clearly in the back office for 5-10 minutes joking amongst themselves while I stood like an idjit waiting for help to buy a part for my boat…I guess my scruffy appearance told them I was a “tire-kicker”, I dunno…
But this was 1991 and cel-phones were still somewhat rare…imagine their surprise when I called their number, and when they picked up and asked if they could help me, I said…yeah man, maybe come out here for a second if you get a chance… heh heh…they looked over and I waved.
Sorry Matthew, another “me” story…I’ll try to talk about you in my next post…how IS the fast food business anyway?
Frosty, I just love how you oh so casually drop “my boat, “my mustang”, etc into your stories.
You remind me of this pathological liar I knew that ended up in prison.
Did you get day-parole, or community service?
