I am just so happy to be paying for your renovations to your house that I vacated based on the fact that I couldn’t prove the damages to YOUR house were already there when I moved in. BUT, thank you to the people who decide these factors in agreeing that the damage that her, and her family, caused should be paid by my because I couldn’t prove I didn’t make the damages. Stupid me, I guess, for being naive and trusting and stupid me for thinking the people who are supposed to help would. But I’m just a lowly young tenant in a world looking after fake crying, greedy landlords! My word of advice when you move in somewhere; take LOTS of pictures before and AFTER! —Naive, now broke-ass bitch</b

ALWAYS get your walk through with your landlord when you move in and have a form signed by them stating the damage was there before you moved in.
If your landlord isn’t willing to do this, find a new place to live. There are some pretty sketchbag landlords who rent within the downtown/south end core who are notorious for not only renting illegal apartments, but for also attempting to hold back deposits for ridiculous reasons… because they know most aren’t going to take it to the tenancy board/small claims court.
A couple of my student staff a few years back lived in illegal apartments (unbeknownst to them before they moved in) and got a crash course in dealing with the tenancy board. These landlord particularly take advantage of students because they know they’re not likely to fight back. It’s criminal.
Unfortunate to hear. My dealings with the Tenancy Board have all been negative. Its no surprise to hear nothing has changed with them. I do think changing their name to the Landlords Board would be more appropriate.
May I ask if it was the Metlej/Metlege clan? They’re by far the greasiest ones out there that probably own ten percent of the city.
