The first few weeks after the Liberals got into power I was happy and sincerely believed this time it was going to be different. Six months later it appears they’re no different than any other political party. A lot of photo ops, hot air, no action and soon to be broken promises. Promising to legalize weed seemed to cloud a lot of peoples minds and distract from the real issues. Worst of all most people don’t seem to care as long as they get their deals at Walmart and Costco and have the latest gadgets. We’re doomed! —A.E Newman

Alfie, did you expect legal weed thd day after the election? How are they to set up an infrastructure in days? The real tragedy is their refusal to decriminalize marijuana while they are in the process of setting up the infrastructure with which to deal with this.
You must be new to the political game. The rules don’t change just because the players are different.
Yea I was pretty discouraged by bill c6 (I think??), whatever one got squashed after elbowgate. I’m much happier with this government than the previous though. Putting all the left vs right arguments aside, as soon as the Conservatives went the route of voter suppression with the “Fair Elections Act”, they had to go. Pretty low bar set, IMO, for this government to improve upon the last.
Our system is mainly Party in Power and the bureaucracy of the Ministries, and the Parties Out of Power. Names of the political parties in each section change from time to time but often seem similar to the previous one after a time as they forget the things they told the public who elected them.
They will not do anything they promised. They never do. I never follow politics because they are all liars and say what you want to hear to get in. Once they get in there true colors show. I don’t see how anyone can believe them. Most times they plan on doing the opposite of what they promise.
MissPinky, while I don’t blame you for feeling that way, I think if you actually followed politics you’d realize that a lot of what you say is not actually the case. Many people enter politics because they want to contribute to a successful and healthy society. It can be very frustrating sometimes though as a lot of those people end up having to play the game.
As for doing the opposite of what they say, on a general level you may be right. I.e. the whole sunny ways and transparency promises are not really happening. But a lot of key election promises have been addressed or are in the process of being addressed (weed, inquiry into missing/murdered aboriginal women, assisted dying, electoral reform).
I think your expectations are set a little too high and your awareness of what is actually going on a little too low.
IF you have worked for a large corporation you can appreciate how long it takes to have a policy created, approved and implemented. Now transfer that concept to a whole country. Change is bound to take time.
Regarding decriminalization/legalization of weed; the Liberals have set a date if you were paying attention instead of complaining. Hold your breath until April 2017…likely on 420 day.
Stay alert and stay in school.
The Liberals once again hoodwinked the sheep. All it took was pretty hair and selfies.
Let’s give them a little more time. The liberals were on their way to decriminalize weed when Paul Martin was in. Then Harper came along. You might not be purchasing packs of joints from the corner store but at least you’re not gonna find your self locked away in a privatized prison. The exact route that Harper would of took us in. Six months is not a long time to judge a political parties actions.
“sincerely believed this time it was going to be different”
There really is one born every minute…
When will people learn that it doesn’t matter which party is in power?
I worked for decades under all three parties who formed governments – to sum it up: the Liberals are belt tighteners (tighter than a duck’s arse & that’s water tight), the Tories spent like drunken sailors with two fistfuls of doubloons and the NDP became revenge troughers who knew they’d never get another kick at the can.
Rather sad, isn’t it?
Did you really think that the government would just legalize pot and let the provinces deal with details like they said they would? Nah, it all about corporate greed and keeping it out of the hands of our precious chillins. Imagine a world where you could, gasp, put a plant outdoors and let nature run its course? Now we’re going to see corporations, sanctioned by their buddies in govt, grow warehouses full of sub-par dope and sold for exorbitant prices. They aren’t protecting anything except for the stream of money flowing to the top. Fuck the government and their rich cronies!!! I know I won’t be buying “legal” weed, I’ll be supporting my local, neighborhood pot dealer that’s had my back since university. My hard earned money will never go to some asshole that paid for a politician’s ear. Fuck them!!!!!!
