I was lucky enough to snag a hotel for the upcoming U2 concert in Moncton but am really pissed off about the gouging going on. I had to commit to a three night stay minimum in a flea bag hotel for almost $900. Unreal. If I check out early I still have to pay the $900. So if I choose to keep this hotel I will be paying well over $1,000 to see this concert. May as well go to the Montreal or TO concert. —Never Again

HOWEVER, I agree with killbrindialready — why would you pay that much to begin with when you COULD go to Toronto or Montreal to see U2 in concert? At least if you went to MTL you wouldn’t be in some shitbag “city.”
Cost me $700 when I went to see NKOTB in toronto, and I got to go on a mini vacation and shop at some places we don’t/didn’t have in halifax. 🙂

That’s all well and good, but I’d venture a guess and say that if the OP did decide to go to the T-dot or Mtrl, the hotels/motels would be doing the exact same thing and gouge his ass. It would probably end up costing him TWICE as much, if not more. It’s supply and demand. I gave up trying to figure out hotel rates the same time I gave up trying to understand airfares…it’s all supply and demand.

Wow…if you agreed to those terms, you obviously have enough disposable income to take the hit. Camping or sleeping in my car would have seemed between options than taking it in the a$$ the way you did.
As far as Montreal or Toronto goes, it ain’t that bad, avast0. I just booked a trip to Montreal during a very busy week. A nice hotel (3.5 or 4 star, if I remember right) in the heart of downtown, rooftop pool…150$ a night. Take that, Moncton.

avast0: mtl and TO see so many headliners that they don’t tend to gouge because it is what it is.
Headliners are old hat to these places. It’s no big deal to have U2 play in Toronto, for instance.
It *is* a big deal, however to have them play moncton which is CONSIDERBLY smaller with CONSIDERBLY less supply of accomodations. Place like Mtl and TO have tons of places to stay (hotels, motels, hostels, etc…), so there’s more competition due to the excess of supply. When supply and demand meet along the equilibrium you’re less likely to have a situation where prices are too high or too low.
Sleep in your frigging car, pull an all nighter Jesus Christ you’re crazy to let them make you pay for three nights, they cold’nt charge outrageous prices unless dickheads like you were willing to pay. You paid it so this bitch is just stupid. So are you.

one thing you could have done, or can do for next years concert is rent a limo. Get a few people together to rent a limo, it is way cheaper than a hotel room, and you can just sleep in it on the drive back to Halifax. I know people who have done that for this concert, it’s pretty affordable.
Yup, you got it. Hotels jack their rates and place minimum night restrictions on their rooms when big events are going on. It is what it is. The same thing has happened here in Hali for Metallica. Rates have gone through the roof. Take it or leave it. If you don’t, someone else will.
Grab some buddies and share the room to help with the cost.
Montreal concerts suck. All you see is MM selling t-shirts and trying to tell people about his thesis that’s available at the campus library.
