For all our warbling and narcissistic navel-gazing at how we think we define ourselves through philosophy, spirituality, science, art and all the other conceits we hold so dear, we starve those same ideals we believe ultimately define us. What a rapacious, base, and delusional bunch to not be able to see the truth, blinded by a thin veil of self-important ideals that we can’t even value enough to support. What a lovely construct we’ve created to live within. Brutal. —Contemplating Cynicism

  1. I wrote the post…can’t ya tell by the big words… 🙂
    ….but seriously I’m lost

  2. I don’t know about you RC but this is a bad time of year for me for mood swings, crankiness and the general feeling of being in a deep black hole. I don’t hold with the concept of seasonal depression. As near as I can figure loathing being cold, wet, tired & sore is a sign of a rational mind. It doesn’t need a psychopathology.
The good is there my dear, all around you and especially inside you. I came goose-stepping onto the stage here a year ago bound & determined to be the most outrageous, obnoxious, and detested asshat in the room. It didn’t take me long to realize I wasn’t even close; and in less time than that I made some damned good buds. The interweb doesn’t make the best lens through which to view the world but the connections I’ve made here have caused me to change and evolve or at least look at things in different ways. Today may suck 1000 miles of dead ass but the world is always turning towards the morning. And now that I’ve exhausted my stock of cliches, there’s just one question left to ask.
Do you prefer claws or tail?

  3. Aw, Ivan – that post just cheered me up dramatically. Coming off a big, irritating national call… and that’s just loverly thoughts all around. Thank dude.

  4. I will never get tired of seeing that little man in the bucket…..Just too cute!!!
I can’t imagine you being an asshole…I agree with so much of what you say and you make me laugh, and I learn a new word everyday! 🙂
I think we all suffer from depression and anxiety and that’s what makes us all individuals here. I like it here….It feels like a family….that you don’t have to put up with all the time.

  5. AHA! A Challenge. >: ) Just joshing. You guys keep me going when la merde hits le ventilateur. And family is nice when it works but when it doesn’t whooboy! SOBova’s siblings can make Seb and NGF look like Donny & Marie:

Anyhoo I hope things are looking a little better for all concerned. Big Russian ♥MouseEars♥

  6. This bitch is so preoccupied with sounding profound it fails to clearly communicate it’s point… whatever that point was. Something about arts funding? I dunno. So because I have no idea what the OP is talking about I’ll rant on about what I think it’s talking about?

Fuck spirituality. Spirituality isn’t starved. Look at all the religion in the world, religion fucking rules the world! And if it’s not organized religion it’s a bunch of useless post modernist hippie spiritualist science denying naturopaths who sit around with their mouths hanging open listening in awe to Deepak Chopra go on about “quantum beingness”. There’s only a tiny percentage of the worlds population that are not spiritual in anyway, and even then you’re bombarded with it everywhere you go.

Look at all the bullshit pseudoscience spirituality is in bed with. Crystal power, faith healing, astrology, ESP, it’s a booming industry raking in heaps of money every year.

If anything we should cut funding to spiritualistic bullshit, lets start with the Coast, cut the astrology crap, seriously.

The only astrology column I’ve ever read and respected was from a freaking high-school newspaper because the people writing it knew the concept was utter crap (go grade ten science class!) so they just blatantly made random shit up, which is exactly what “real astrologers” do anyway. I swear, they do some random Google searches, find a character from Star Trek or some Leonard Cohen lyrics, and then tell Leo or Virgo about how that character’s struggles or song lyrics bring insight into their lives.

    http://ninjerktsu.blogspot.com/2011/01/car…

Whatever, astrology I can live with so long as everyone realizes it has no grounding in reality what-so-ever and is basically entertainment fluff to fill up empty space, it’s mostly the shit that hurts people I get pissed at.

John of God? The asshole that takes “psychic surgery” (yes people actually do surgery, wait for it, with their MIND) to a new level by actually cutting people open without anesthetic and pretending to pull chicken bones and shit out of them. “Hey I removed the tumor! It looks just like a wishbone!” Oprah had this asshole on her show. God a hate Oprah…

Anyway, I guess other than that I agree with whatever it was OP was trying to say… sort of? Not quite sure how philosophy isn’t supported, people need to invest more money in… philosophy? It’s a bunch of people sitting around and thinking about shit, writing it in books… buy their books I guess? But like the arts and science I get, way underfunded. Especially science. Seeing as space travel is the only way to ensure the continued long term survival of our species for reasons Louis C.K. explains here…

…you’d there would be more money put into it but sadly no.

Carl Sagan is my hero. You could learn a thing or two from him about sounding profound and making sense at the same time OP!

  7. you deffenately know it wasn’t me that wrote that. too many big crazy things there, oh words, that’s right.

  8. I was going to say… do we have an English to Gommick translator for LS here?

Personally, I don’t think we are ignoring or ignorant to the things which seem to define us most…. at least not all of us anyways.

That said, if you truly believed that of yourself and make no effort to change or enlighten…
then you would be fairly suicidal.
