It’ll be a fuck of a lot easier to give these clowns your cheque, and let them feed, clothe, and house you. Way to boost the economy.
How did we survive before you clowns got in? I guess I was lucky and got my last vacation in. I won’t be able to take one in the years to come. Sorry travel agents, airline employees, and everyone else I use to get ready for a trip that I won’t be able to support you anymore. And that goes the same for anyone else that I buy goods or services from.—Hope All You Fucking Orange Socialists Are Happy Now

The new NDP motto – “Government – It’s as easy as taking money from a guy with cerebral palsy”.
Haligonia LIKES gettin’ spanked in the pocketbook. Obviously. 5 minutes acroos the border and you save save save yet you keep going back. S&M IS quite popular on the streets of HRM. Nobody should be surprised. You all voted for a higher cost of living and higher taxation so there you go. Anybody learn anything yet?
Just more motivation for me to leave this province and never look back. Between the thieving politicians, high living expenses, Shylock landlords, geezers in the heritage trust holding us back in the 1900s, our dracula-looking mayor, poopy harbour, I don’t know which I hate more. Farewell to my home province of Nova Scotia, you’ve never treated me well.
“Wait a tic… Blimey!…this redistribution of the wealth thing is trickier than I thought” Not sure who said that, Dennis Moore, the Highwayman or Svend Robinson, the ring bandit.
*sings* “Steals from the poor and gives to the rich…”
I think the Dinkster is pissed off at the AG for exposing the MLA’s at the trough so he is going to reclaim this loot by taxes. No wonder we are in debt with all the expenses that they were claiming as legit.
‘…stupid bitch, Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore – YOUR ORANGE LUPINS OR YOUR LIFE!
Well, we had the Tory Blue Turd Wave, now we have the NDP Orange Toxic Sludge. Then there’s them Liberal Lobsterbacks and their leader, Sam The Eagle With A Really Bad Toupee. All of ’em are as useful as a waxed camel toe on Peter Griffin.
you people voted for socialists; what do you expect tax cuts; spending cuts yes hello that’s what they do
we survived by having a sales tax, having it cut back, and will survive, having it back up there again. why bother to whine, just like sunday shopping, it will be enacted, and there is jack fucking shit we can do to stop it. so, i guess we learn to suck it up, once again, and be glad either of the other are not in office.think two percent is bad, rodney wanted to go up to 10.
you’d better hope you’ll survive it. The rising crime rate will follow in kind of course.
Just look at the illegal tobacco trade. 350,000 cigarettes seized. Imagine the taxes that could have been collected if the price was reasonable and what could have been saved in investigation costs.
oh I know… here’s a good idea… raise the price of smokes to over $11 or $12/pack and present significant cost savings to the pack-each-per-day couple to take a Sunday drive across the border and stock up for a week, fill up the tank real cheap for under a buck pricing and enjoy the drive home. We’ll assume there will be no head-on collisions waiting to happen on the highway of death. Good thinking, eh?… if you’re a NB politician charged with finding more money.
Don’t blame unrealized revenue from cigarettes for a shitty economy while at the same time spreading messages encouraging people to quit. That’s like raising taxes on liquor because AA has become so effective. If people had quit instead of buying from the illegal smoke dealers it would have the same effect on the economy. Wouldn’t we be praising such an effectual gov’t if that had happened? I guess people don’t like to be pigeon-holed or told what to do.
I’m ready to watch the “exodus from the east” as this government fails and then fails some more. Too bad the poor sucker citizens trapped in hand-to-mouth living will never be able to scrape together enough cash to get to a place where their money would go A LOT further with lighter taxation on the paycheque coupled with lighter taxation at the storefront. Those “other” provinces are suddenly looking pretty good, I’ll bet.
Hmmm – maybe it’s time to move to Newfoundland and start up a ‘Love the Way We Screech’ webpage.
Maybe it’s time to put things in perspective and stop being such drama queens. It wasn’t that long ago that our tax was 15% and i didn’t anybody here going apeshit about it. 2 fucking percent, people! Get over it. Rodney the fiddler dug a huge hole and this is a way to help get out of it.
i still say that they, the government, should hold a one or twice yearly sale of these things.sell the fucking things thru the booze stores and change 25 bucks a bag for them. it can be done under the proceeds of crime act. jesus fucking christ, people would trip all over themselves to buy these things at that price. i have smoked them before, and had them tested, they have less shit in them, than the crap, that you pay big bucks for. there is a fortune in smokes in the burnside warehouse, just going to waste, we should demand that the government sell these off now. they are taking up s[pace, and just sitting there on pallets.
BRoc the HST may have gone back to where it was but just wait til you do your Income Tax next year and see how many more hundreds or thousands of dollars you’re going to have to fork over to these thieves.
Well, I’m not sure if you actually read the budget or not, Bro Tim, but income tax increases are only coming into affect for families making $150k or more. I don’t fall in that bracket and frankly I think if you make that much money then it makes sense that you’re income tax rate would be higher.
They’re aren’t tax increases, they are tax adjustments!
Right….
How much is the right amount for taxes then?
When taxes get cut we bitch about the lack of services, when they go up we bitch about how much money the government is stealing from us.
If you’re having trouble making ends meet because of a tax increase, chances are you’re probably in an income bracket where you’re benefiting from the higher taxes paid by those in a higher income bracket. If you’re in the highest income bracket already, then quit bitching and manage your money better.
How did Dexter get on here?
Words right out of my mouth Miles
Overall, if the 2% increase bothers you that much, cut out that large Tim’s coffee you buy every day, it works out about the same in overall money for the year.
Avoid buying local and you avoid paying the extra tax. Buy online through the USA whenever you can. That way Dexter doesn’t get a cent off you.
Or, buy local, pay the tax, and perhaps we can get this deficient out of the way faster. Really, you can avoid the whole thing by moving. But, if you plan to stay in Nova Scotia, wouldn’t it be better just to suck it up, work together and maybe–just maybe–we can balance things out (finally) and then move forward into a more stable future. Yes, we have been screwed over (and over) by the people we vote in to represent us. But, we have to keep trying in the hopes that one of them might actually be sincere in their attempt to do what is best for Nova Scotia. If you feel that there is no hope you should really move on. Otherwise, let’s nail this $%#$^%$ and get it out of the way.
You know there is one way to see if Dexter is sincere. We could force his hand if everyone who could afford to simply wrote out a check for $500 (at least) and passed it to him in order to balance the books (with full accountability by him for every cent used). If he is sincere, we would immediately advance to GO and start the next phase of his fix Nova Scotia plan. Wouldn’t that be something to see = p
Ha ha…that’s a fun idea.
Doesn’t seem wise to me to decrease cigarette costs so the government will be more likely to make taxes off them seeing as smoking increases disease and therefore health care costs, which are covered by increasing taxes. Should do something like put a higher tax on driving and give a credit for using public transportation or not owning a car, as unpopular as that would be. At least it would keep the population healthier overall and decrease health care spending. Then again, I do tend to see a lot of fat fuckers on the bus taking up two seats by themselves.
Doesn’t matter which party is in control…one digs the hole, the other gets the blame for doing nasty things to get us out of the hole. At least they’ve removed the tax off of some items.
Besides, it’s not like we’re the only province to be raising taxes.
That’s what I’m saying…
it’s either a vicious circle or they always use this excuse because we always fall for it.
If we fill the hole in ourselves, the circle is broken and/or the need for excuses is eliminated. I think it would be worth disregarding the principal of the thing and just taking care of it once and for all. It would certainly be a landmark move. I wonder if anything like this has ever been done before in any other country at any other time.
The only way this Province can get out of debt is if either Bill Gates or Warren Buffet adopted us as their bastard child.
DEAR GOD NO 15% HST WHAT WILL WE DO
Oh I don’t know, live with it perfectly fine like we did from 1997 to 2006? Jesus Christ I’m surrounded by a province of Chicken Littles.
No kidding SD. And it’s probably better that the 2% is going to the provincial coffers than the federal ones like it did from ’97-’06.
I haven’t read all the comments, so forgive me if I make a point that’s already been made, but a tax hike with an NDP government shouldn’t REALLY be a shock to any of us.
Fact is, the province was in a financial mess when the tories left office — they obviously did a great job hiding that fact. Now the NDP are just doing what they’re ideologically designed to do to fix the mess: raise taxes.
I think though, that upping the consumer taxes is a shitty way of doing it — it really just hurts the poor in the end. However, how many people really got rich when the HST went down 2%? I know I sure didn’t. I didn’t see THAT much of a difference.
And hay, no more provincial portion of HST on tampons! 😛
Girls are so lucky.
Now if any of you think your income taxes won’t go up over the next few years, I have an honest NDP party….er bridge for sale
