I think it’s a little extreme to put a boot on someone’s tire if they park in your parking lot and don’t go in your store. Do you have nothing better to do than stare out the window and make sure everyone who parks their damn car outside your store comes in? Get a life.
$100 later I am totally pissed and can tell you I will NEVER shop at your overpriced home decor store again based on this incident. I realize it’s your parking lot, but you’re going to drive a lot more people away pulling that crap. You’ve lost a customer, and I’m spreading the word. A ticket? fine. The boot? Over doing it. You suck.—Sad Quinpool Shopper

So you would have been okay with a ticket that you’d probably fight/avoid paying and now you are upset that you are forced to actually pay the $100 to the boot company.
Next time don’t park on private property if you aren’t doing business on said property.
It’s not like they don’t have signs or anything to warn you. Oh wait, they do. You gambled and you lost.
I wonder how much business they lost cause wankers like you fill up their lot?
So you think it is smart for the business with one of the only and smallest parking lot on quinpool to let whoever with a motor vehicle park there? They would be crazy not to boot cars there.
They pay for the lot on their mortgage / rent so why would they loose business by letting people who want to have dinner down the road park there?
Their customers probably appreciate being able to park there.
You sound like someone who would probably appreciate all of the free parking in Bayers Lake. Enjoy the drive.
Quinpool Road, with all its street parking, and you decide to pass warning signs and park in a private lot. You were there long enough for them to jack up the car and place that boot on it.
There needs to be a “SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP” tag.
How would you like it if someone parked in your driveway and then visited your neighbor?
s. 149 (1) No person shall leave a vehicle standing on property of which he is not the owner or tenant without the consent of the owner or tenant of the property.
(2) When a peace officer is satisfied that a vehicle has been left standing on property for one hour or longer in violation of subsection (1), he may, on the request of the owner or tenant of the property, remove the vehicle and detain it until the expense of removal and detention are paid to him.
i think the tags are gone forever pdg
there was an article in the paper on this…
how did you not think it could happen to you? you should have just went in to the place for a bit… and left. then you would have been a patron. that’s all they want really.
yeah GOP, I don’t know if robyn has quite figured them out or whether she’s too busy to care…
ya never know, she may just indulge us yet.
overall, I’m not complaining.. she’s WAY better than 3.0
oh yeah i like the new maude…she gives us nutbars freedom
I do care! And I’m looking at bringing them back (tags, that is). But my list of to-do’s is long so its taking longer than I had hoped to get a handle on some of the peripheral bits… I’ll try and move faster for y’all… 🙂
we can help maude, we are full of words and stuff^^
no worries at all.
you’re one of us now.
In Bayers Lake & Dartmouth Crossing there are lots of stores selling all types of specialty items as well as all the big name Dept. stores that have some of just about everything.
PLUS THEY HAVE FREE PARKING !
I would feel bad for you, but I just can’t reach. You’re the author of your own problem & next time you’ll probably think twice about where you spend your money. The Halifax ticket Nazi’s have driven me away over 2 years ago. I only go there to work if I absolutely have to ( I don’t like to see a call undermanned)
Didn’t anyone clue you in that ticket revenue is a downtown Halifax revenue stream ?
We need more booters and our own TV version of Parking Wars!! We could get the TPB to do some of the roles as they’re unemployed now.
unemployed?
they’re doing their drunk and on drugs variety hour show…
where have you been?
Yep- sucks to be punished for blatantly disobeying a sign that respectfully suggest you park somewhere else if you won’t be doing business with those that own the parking spot. Would love to see your case on Judge Judy- your ass would be fried within the opening credits.
If there was a no parking sign displayed, no sympathy, dude.
Pay it and don’t do it next time. Or go into the store, but something worth less than the boot/ticket, then talk about the money you saved!
A bar-goooooon!
Go into the store, buy something, then run your errands, and then return said item.
zZz – I’ve just finished 30 days for contempt.
tsk tsk… you need to use your grown up, indoor voice when in court.
I gotta say, I’ve only recently started seeing these “boots” and only on quinpool… Welcome to America…
@ ham – thanks for posting that. Important to note that Mr. Boot is not a police officer, and I hightly doubt the OP’s vehicle was left on the lot for over an hour.
@ zZz – the article in the paper said a couple of interesting things: it might make an interesting small claims court case because, as a lawyer put it, “If you’re a property owner and you have something on your property, you have the right to have it removed. You don’t have the right to nail it down.” (quoting from memory). Also, Mr. Boot says he gives five minutes grace before doing his thing, not the hour specified in the Motor Vehicle Act.
@ OP – Go to Can Tire (near the store you’re referring to, I believe) and drop $15 on a set of bolt cutters. Problem solved.
There is a large sign in this lot warning you of what will happen if you park there without entering the business that owns the lot….so you parked there anyway and quelle surprise when you return to your car it’s been booted. You get zero sympathy from me, next time park on a side street.
“$100 later I am totally pissed and can tell you I will NEVER shop at your overpriced home decor store again based on this incident.”
Really? It doesn’t sound like you shopped there to begin with or this would not have been a problem.
That’s the rules, and you new it while parking there. They were fully within their rights. If they don’t enforce that rule everyone will park there all the time leaving less space for actual paying customers and that hurts business. Sorry OP, everyone does this once in a while and everyone fully knows what could happen but they decide to take the risk anyway, you have no grounds to complain about it after it does. Suck it up.
SMU boots cars now. If you don’t have a pass and you’ve gotten three or more citations they put a boot on ‘ya. I’ve noticed a HUGE increase of cars parked on robie beside McNally/Atrium lately because of it.
I agree with everyone else: the parking spaces are for their patrons. I would’ve chosen to tow, if I were them, though. The inconvenience of having to GET to the impound lot and then pay even more $$$ to get the car back would’ve been priceless. My parents were in an accident and had to get their car towed from Dartmouth to Clayton Park and it cost like $200 or something, I think. I’m half tempted to call and get the asshat who parks in the fire lane in front of the door walkway on a regular basis towed. Having to scale snow banks in the winter because the jerkoff in the silver honda thinks he/she can park their shitmobile wherever sure is fun.
And I’m really sure you were a customer of their business anyway so I’m sure they’re not going to cry or go broke over one less asshole customer who probably never was.
Dear Sad Shopper,
I own the home decor shop on Quinpool Road and half of the spaces in the parking lot are for my clientele. I pay for them. NoGo was hired by the owner of the property because too many people were parking in the lot and visiting other shops on the street. There are 4 signs indicating that the lot is privately owned and who is authorized to park there. I don’t understand how you can be upset with me when this was 100% your doing.
well there ya go then…seems that the ob is a dummy
