denial of service has got to be one of the oldest, most annoying and easiest way to fuck with the little guy. damn kids. Stop skateboarding on the sidewalks too while you’re at it.
Sadly this is likely not someone in NA but actually the class of ’09 in one of China’s many, many Hacker Schools. They are hitting you because you are small enough that you are less likely to be able to do much about it legallyoffensively but have a network sufficiently setup enough for them to practice on.
It’s situations like these that only solidify my opinion that North America needs it’s own Great Firewall to restrict access to our networks here from intrusions by Eastern European and Chinese hacker groups.
People think it’s all BS but they exist and are operating with little in the way of stopping them, until we approach this seriously and firewall their regions. I am not suggesting we block those area’s entirely as that would stifle electronic trade…but it wouldn’t be that hard to implement a world-wide security system where you apply for a user id from your ISP who in turn processes that request through an international cooperative, with each region being within it’s own Domain and any traffic that is sent inter-domain could be tracked down to the individual. Obviously there could be possible ways to circumvent this but it would be harder than what is in place presently and the trail a person would leave behind trying to get around this would also help in tracking these losers down.
If you had a Linux firewall you wouldn’t have these problems. They’re attacking you because they can and you’ll probably get more and more from any script kiddie anywhere in the world … because they can.
Your best defense against Denial of Service attacks, worms/viruses and a host of other ills they can throw at your system is to dump windows and install all (and only) Linux servers + firewall. Until then, suck it up!
