OP you should wait until this all “blows over” (even though you did nothing wrong) and then say to a few of them “hey, remember when you all thought that, what do you think now?”.
They’re all in the mobbing type excitement of how someone might feel at this time. In retrospect they will see how they acted it’ll just take time.
Also don’t forget that circumstances (him being to have “supposed” to be with your cousin) is just a circumstance, and why should circumstances block something good. If anything they are family and should understand.
