With all due respect, this bus strike comes off as sheer greed!! I have an Architecture degree that took me 5 years to get; I’m an educated and skilled working professional! I did this because I love Building Design and I wanted a lucrative profession! Metro Transit workers chose their occupation as well. However, it’s absurd that a transit worker, who’s required to have experience or education, can have a salary that’s comparable to mine. RIDICULOUS… THEY DRIVE BUSES!!! Anyone can get a Class 1 license; it takes dedication and determination to get an education. They’re all VERY lucky to have those jobs which gives a BIG salary with little to NO required skill sets! RIDICULOUS!!!! In addition, considering the world economy and Canada’s current financial landscape, many us have given concession during contract negotiations because everyone is having financial hardships. Not this group… just as greedy as ever! Get back to work already!! —I Paid for My Pass, Now I Want My Ride

Holy-Molee – if there’s anything that can make me side with Unions and their Dictatorship of Mediocrity – it’s the self-entitled ego of an educated jackass. Here’s a news flash for you there, Howard Roark. Anyone can get a Class 1 license, but how many are actually good drivers?
Anyone can get an education if they have the time and the money, but, really, how many architects are any good at it? The good ones flourish – the dross fall by the wayside. If you’re the sort of nippletwist who values work by the amount of money you pull down, I wouldn’t trust you to build a birdhouse.
contact them, and you may get a reinbursement. not saying you will, but it is possible. other than that, you’ll just have to wait it out, like the rest of us.
Does anyone not get the fact that MT drivers pay 100% for their benefits? A lot of those out there with the same salaries or slightly less salaries have employers who cost-share benefits (pensions, health plans, etc…), MT drivers don’t have this luxury. So while it seems like they’re being paid a great wage, their take home (after taxes — remember, they’re in a pretty substantial tax bracket) probably is nowhere near yours, OB.
If you take account the money employers add into benefits for employees, people with 50k salaries likely make much more (benefits actually make up, on average, 30% of an employees salary).
I make $15k less than my mom/yr, yet my take home is only $200/less per pay cycle (monthly) because she pays 50% of her benefits. If she paid them 100%, she’d be taking home far less than I am. If she didn’t have the benefit expense, she’d be making about 700 more per pay cycle.
And FYI, OB: there are lots of drivers out there with university degrees. PDG, in fact, is one of them. Stop being a fucking education-snob. Then again, architects aren’t always known to be the most humble crowd on the planet. Hint: if you’re an architect and only making 50k/yr, you’re likely doing it wrong.
Also: who fucking cares how much education someone gets? If someone manages to get a great paying job without having to do a shit ton of work, well good for them, I say, and give them every right to call people like you, who spent 5 years in university to make a comparable salary a ‘sucker.’
Sour grapes, much?
If driving a bus is so fucking easy, why don’t some of you asshats complaining about how easy it is go drive a fucking bus? If the job is so easy and requires such little skill and pays awesomely…. Seriously.
since when is 50 grand a “BIG” salary? people that hate on people making that much money doing an unbelievably stressful and inflexible job need to promptly die in a car fire.
Since you are making 50K, OB, did you consider that you are comparing your fresh-out-of-architecture-school salary with someone who has been on the job for 25-30 years?
I dont see all the due respect there.
Good point, Xeno!
And neville’s got a definite point too — drivers often don’t even get a break to take a piss without people getting mad at them for being ‘off schedule.’
I once had a driver get off a bus to find out what the hold up was when another bus was blocking the road (they had slipped and got stuck in the snow). One bitch was so pissed off the driver didn’t tell her where he was going that she called the call centre and bitched them out over it.
He came back not even five minutes later to tell us what was going on. FFS.
People who take the bus can be huge assholes and drivers more than earn their salaries.
I’m with You OP!!
Why not be a city planner OP? Why just be an art school drop-out with a tilted desk and big ruler?
😀
OB…I make over twice what you do & all I have is highschool & I dropped out of grade 12.
Sucks to think you spent all that money to buy your way to success & your not there yet ! (or at 50 grand IMO your not there)
Yeah, instead of paying a school a shit load of money & coming out withthe attitude “I’ve got an education I deserve to make a lot of money”… I went the other route to success I simply went out & worked for it !
Who’s the idiot spending all that time and money for an education when “Anyone can get a Class 1 license”?
according to the site, you need a class 2 license
Guess what! I only have my grade 10 and I’m making 75K working at my gf’s father’s company. He told me that he usually requires hirees to have some post-secondary education, but he hired me cause he knew I was smart! It’s great to be me, I tells ya.
he hired you because he was the spawn of his spawn you jackass.
What a snot! Ansd if you’re being paid $50K as an architect, you’ve got a shitty job! Go look elsewhere…
Only people with university educations deserve to make money? Would love to see OP work a physical labour job or trade for a week.
According to service canada, 50k is average for canada, and only 2 dollars per hour above average for NS.
OP, you need to get out more often.
” Hint; if your an architect and only making 50/k a year, you’re likely doing it wrong”
Ahhhh Petty K, I am so glad I had swallowed my mouthful of wine just before I read that !
Otherwise I’d have sprayed cab-sav all over my monitor & key pad…and paperwork etc.
Yep gotta be careful reading some of the responses…they’re great & too funny. Thanks for the laugh Petty I’m always more upbeat after a good laugh
I’m a university student myself and I feel ill every time I read bitches like these, the ones that basically denigrate any job that doesn’t require the minimum of a person being very good at remembering and spitting out facts while shelling out heaps of money for four years.
Bus drivers have to manage their schedules in the middle of unpredictable and often congested urban traffic all while maneuvering a big long heavy vehicle from stop after stop without bumping some honda civic out of the lane with its tail end. Not to mention having to deal with whatever rudeness the public decides to dole out on them that day.
If you can’t think critically enough to realize that all this more complicated and stressful than flipping burgers, university has obviously failed you.
You consider architects more valuable than bus drivers do you OP? The transit drivers have the strength of a union and the fact that they are an essential service. Let’s see all the architects go on strike and see if anybody notices.
I’d like to see some sissy-mary architect stand up to a troop of self-entitled stroller moms.
“Damn proctologist ain’t never gonna be findin’ yo protracta, less you shuddup and siddown, Frank Muhfuggin’ Gehry.” – followed by the ubiquitous palm-Z
“I’m Spartacus”…. “I’m Spartacus” ….”I’m Spartacus”…”I’m a Stroller Mom” *Hans Moleman voice*
pretty kitty – you are wrong about benefits sharing. Who feeds you such BS ?
HRM pays 50% of the pension contributions and cost shares the other benefits.
Read Article 22 which spells out the 50/50 deal on all benefits http://applications.atucanada.ca/content_R…
