I was on the bus today and it was actually a very pleasant bus trip… until this woman beside me decided to look up from her reading and decided that these two people across from us were laughing at her, mocking her and of course talking about her. She started to talk very loudly (so the whole bus could hear) about how she has anxiety and we should respect her, and that bureaucrats are everywhere, and everyone with a job is a bureaucrat, and it’s not right to make fun of people with anxiety, it’s ignorant.

Of everything you said old lady, the last 2 things were right. It isn’t right to make fun of anyone regardless if they have a mental illness or not, and I actually felt a little bit of compassion for you until you kept ranting for another good five or more minutes about the same stuff. Finally I had enough and started to tell her that they weren’t even talking to her and having a private conversation when she screams “I’M NOT TALKING TO YOU” and gets even more worked up that people are mocking her.

I just don’t understand. Cause when she moved to the back of the bus 5 people moved to the front (you would think that would be a clue that no one wants to be around you… were not mocking you) and she started going on loudly yet again that they’re mocking her too, and that people need to respect their elders.

Ya know what? Respect comes to those who give it. You were giving NO respect to anyone on the bus, I don’t care if you have anxiety or not, it’s NO excuse. Two of the gentlemen who moved to the front sat beside me, apparently you’re a regular crazy on this bus, and apparently, your random bullshit rant started a little early today.

I just hope I never have to hear you on the bus ever again. —Wish I Brought My Headphones

  1. @Koda: No, it’s just that alot of people taking public transportation don’t know the concept of “keeping to themselves”. For instance, when I’ve had a long day at work, do you really think I feel like listen to CHANIQUA from Dartmouth, loud talking on her cell so everyone in the bus can know who she was banging over the weekend? NO, I don’t … people like her need to shut the fuck up and have more respect for others.

  2. Sounds like this lady had a bit more going on mental-illness-wise than just anxiety.

She probably wasn’t in her right mind, OB. It’s best to just ignore people like that — let them go on and on and on because nothing’s going to stop them because they really do believe they’re being 100% completely rational.

  3. I can sympathize…
I’ve had some intense, rage-fueled trips myself.
When I’m on the bus… I don’t want to hear anything but either the rumbling sound of the bus or (if I haven’t misplaced it again recently) my shitty ipod.
Anything else is mildly annoying… and the longer it persists it grows exponentially more grating.
I’m lookin’ at you crazy ladies, work colleagues who chat all ride, crazy parent groups that all take the same god damn route, people encouraging chatting with kids… who invariably have no VOLUME CONTROL and very little actual speech abilities….
    and worst of all,
fucking spoiled brat teens who play their shit music openly for all to unfortunately hear all the while commenting on every little fucking thing like their brain to mouth process has no fucking filter.

“like, oh my god, my feet are dangling… when I’m sitting, I can’t even touch the ground!”
really? who on this stupid fucking earth could possibly care about that?
sit there… watch for your god damn stop and shut the fuck up.
    just shut it…
    SHUT UP!

  4. If she is a ‘regular crazy’ on that bus, then she is probably harmless. If you are a regular on that bus, why don’t you try to find out her name and strike up a conversation with her? It is amazing how civilized the developmentally disabled can be when they are treated with kindness and respect.

  5. You should have just screamed at her to sit down and shut the fuck up.

Most people like this do shit like this because no one does anything about it.

  6. there used to be 10 million stories in the naked city, but the buses have them outdone as of late. can’t we go one fucking day without one of them, and restaurants, and bikes, and fucking wait staff too? jesus palamino people, let’s get some new material for a change. because as bitch above has said, this shit is getting old, real fucking fast.

  7. People with significant mental illness aren’t allowed to drive so they take the bus, usually late morning/early afternoon. This is what you experienced. Be glad you don’t have what she does.

  8. Worked in a public access place where we would get many people with similar problems, at various levels.

Always a hard call as to how to deal with them when there may be a problem. Sometimes ignoring them helps them calm down, sometimes being friendly works. Other times being a bit of an authority figure seems to help – oddly enough. Problem is what works with one may not work with another, and even for the same person what works now may be the opposite to what works in an hour.

Mood swings often change and they can be so nice, happy and friendly and in a minute they are vicious and out for blood. Often they really can not help it. A horrible situation to be in, for everyone concerned.

When around people like this often you get a bit used to it, or at least know the regulars, but others in the area would be truly freaked out when someone would be having a bad day, or off their meds. etc. A result of so many being turfed into mainstream society. Many can usually cope well most times, but some often can not.

If I am on a bus and someone is having an ‘episode’, I tend to lie low, avoid any type of contact, especially eye, or talking, move if necessary and be aware of an escape route.

  9. That just sounds like a free reality show with no annoying commercials. Never fuck with crazy, it’s like poking the bear at the zoo.

  10. Anxiety? Fuck, give her a few shots of espresso next time. Or better yet, egg her on and get her going real good. That’s quite some entertainment you had for your $2 and whatever change it takes.

  11. I like crazy bus people. I like the lady who yells ‘crack sandwiches!’ on the 80. I would rather them than people who choose to be ignorant and disrespectful.

  12. The crazy bitch was probably sebastian dressed up as his mother and just looking for attention in a new venue.
