After reading this morning’s provincial paper I am outraged by the disdain and general lack of respect Darrell Dexter has for the citizens of Nova Scotia. In regard to his bar fees being paid with taxpayer dollars he wad quoted as saying “I don’t see anything wrong with professional fees being covered. They are in private business routinely covered for employees”. Give me a break here Darrell, our money is not your personal piggy bank you smug jerk. This province is in the financial shitter yet you make $196,000 and want your $3,500 bar fees picked up by the people.
After the recent spending scandal it infuriates me that a self-professed Man of the People thinks this way. Hey Darrell, why not try keeping one election promise? Just one. Then maybe you might begin to deserve these perks all you politicians give yourselves. For all you people who voted NDP, how are things looking? Fuck you Darrell Dexter, and leave my hard-earned money alone. —Tired of the Arrogance

I didn’t even vote at all, so I can’t bitch.
THe best thing about the NDP Government is they said “WE ARE DIFFERENT”.
“WE WILL GIVE YOU THE CHANGE YOU WANT”
Unfortunately we weren’t paying close enough attention & all they meant by them being different, is they were a different group of people !
WHen they were talking about change, they meant a couple of pennies on the dollar would come back to us !
So now we all know , everyone of those shit stains are a waste of food & will rip us off every chance they get. Doesn’t matter what so called “Party” they are from…each & every one of them want to be in power for one reason & one reason only.
So they can have their turn at a 4 year “PARTY”…at our expense of course !
Tell me how the hell can we taxpayers get an invite to this Party, I want at least a free drink !
what the hell else you expect. he’s a politition, isn’t he. they are all pretty much to same. a bunch of crooks,in cheap clothing. no, scratch that, very expensive clothing, paid by us.
so then what… get some independent golden boy/girl to vote for?
otherwise we’re stuck with the same ol same ol.
Is there a write-in vote?
I’d like Rick Flair to be the new Premier.
I did and it wasn’t for those Commie NDP…
Don’t blame me. I voted for Kodos.
Actually, he *is* right — most private law firms will cover bar fees.
I’m wondering if crown attorneys have THEIR bar fees covered…because if THEY have theirs covered, I don’t see why Darrel Dexter shouldn’t have his. Though, does he NEED to practice law to be premier?
I dunno.
For fuck sakes LS, use your spell check before you post. It’s politician.
Darrell is right though, most professional costs are covered. In my last job, I had $500 bucks a month for total coverage. We had to pay out of pocket for everything… Business cards, pens, you name it, we paid for it and then had it paid back to us. We submitted the costs at the end of the month, and then it was paid back to us, sometimes I went over, sometimes not.
Do this math – Dexter was elected in 1998 which means he’s been in government for 12 years X $3500 a year for bar fees AS AN ACTIVE LAWYER which he is not because he holds public office. He should have been paying $250 for status as an inactive lawyer but did he do that? Nooooooo – he stuck those bills right up our collective colons, then stapled our assholes shut. This man is a fraud, he won’t keep his promises and he’ll backtrack when the Legislative Chamber gets too fucking hot, i.e. restricting seniors from having more than 100 diabetes strips a year (holy fuck you goddamn dimwits, what if you have to test yourself four times a day as some people do?) – those fucking cowards backed away from that faster than a pack of highstepping Wile E. Coyotes. It doesn’t matter who wins an election in Nova Scotia, inevitably the shit will rise to the top and we’ll all have to eat it.
To your point PK, even if he doesn’t practice law, it would make sense for him to maintain it. If it’s anything like my Mutual Fund licensing, if you lose it, you have to re-test, so on and so forth, and it’s only a small cost. My license this year cost me about $380.
PK Crown Attorneys and other staff lawyers for the province are actually plying their trade. In fact I would have no problem if the bar fees are paid for the Attorney General as he or she needs to ply their trade in that position.
Now what about this Daewoo deal? We get to own 49%, have one person on the board, abnd the best of all we may not get any of the profits. I guess DD fell asleep in the negotiation part of law school.
Hey, PK, you don’t have to be a lawyer to be a premier – the last one was a gym teacher/fiddler and we had a dairy farmer in the early 90s. Maybe the next one will be a Walmart greeter.
Dexter has decided he will change his status to non practicing, thus reducing his fees to somewhere in the $250 dollar range per year. guess we dont need a practicing lawyer heading the province. funny how when he is to foot his own bill, he opts to change his status.
Having the taxpayers cover fees is an entirely different thing than having a PRIVATE business cover them. businesses are free to do what the will with their own money, Dexter and his cronies are eating from an entirely different trough.
as for having crown attorneys fees paid with public funds, i can stomach that a little easier as they are still applying their skills. Dexter keeping his bar status active as premier, does nothing to enhance his, nor his party’s governance.
i think the overall sense of entitlement is the issue here. it reminds me of David Dingwall’s comments from a few years back, “i am entitled to my entitlements”. what gall!!
promises made by dexter continue to go unfulfilled. what was his excuse for this? that the NDP could not have previously known before taking office, how bad of a state the province was in financially. i will agree that the depth may not have been known, but an 8th grader with the ability to read the paper or watch the news could have told him that nova scotia was in serious financial trouble.
we are in for another rough three years people. to all those who said “give the NDP a chance”, enjoy it.
Well he’s gonna need that law degree because that clown is 1 and done!
Yeah that’s my point, TTFN — it’s not like his law degree is necessary for his job as premier, so why *are* we paying for it.
And if he has to retest…well he’s not exactly a practicing lawyer so why shouldn’t he pay out of pocket?
I worked for an engineering firm that would cover these types of costs for engineers, but they needed to pay these dues in order to keep their accreditation so they could work in their field and have a legitimate chance at winning contracts. Darrel Dexter certainly does not need to maintain his lawyer credentials to be premier, so if he wants to maintain his status, then he should cover those costs himself.
Jeez, even if he really thinks he is entitled to those fees, does he not have any fucking political savvy at all? A smart politician would have at least lied and apologized in order to avoid further extending this spending scandal. What a twat!
Damn right he should be bringing in his bags of pennies to pay this – it’s such a friggin’ waste.
what you think that “socialists” have any more scruples when they get to the trough are you new 🙂
TTFN for Premier. I want to be Deputy Premier. I need a new retirement plan. Freedom 6/49 doesn’t make ends meet.
martym…what i think it is, is that im amazed he(they) convinced so many people they would have more scruples. silly people for thinking politicians had morals. i suppose history has shown that regardless of the colour of their banner, most(not all), politicians are in fact much alike. if i didnt feel that failing to voting strips me of the right to complain, i would not vote as doing so seems to illicit so little actual change. 🙂
I suppose we can try the Atlantica Party next. The first rule they’ll need is NO FORMER/PRESENT POLITICIANS in the party.
grass roots parties are good in principle but they NEVER get elected anywhere except maybe alberta
I’m on the Freedom Crossword Scratch Ticket Plan myself.
I took Mr Dexter to McD for lunch.
‘Who’s paying ? ‘ said he
‘Me’ said I, reaching for my wallet.
Mr D chose the Full Meal Deal with large fries.
Oops. ‘ Fuck. I left my wallet at home’ said I.
Mr Dexter said ‘In that case, forget the Full Meal Deal. I’ll just buy myself a small burger’
Moral of this tale : Spend other peoples money like it is your own.
Good one, Joeblow.
just tell DD that he sucks at basketball (which is true) and he will go apeshit. I used to play with him at the Dalplex and cringed everytime he was on my team. you give him the ball, you aren’t getting back. Not surprised he is doing the same to the citizens of NS.
THAT’S WHERE I’VE SEEN HIM BEFORE!
couldn’t remember for the life of me…
Why would it make sense for him to maintain his license when he’s not practicing? Would he not be a better lawyer if he retested after being out of the profession for X years?
He should pay if he wants to skip the test.
and now Comrade Wilson from Glace Bay has resigned – something smelly going on
I want to vote for that groundhog….he works and looks just like Darrell.
Well that’s one Conservative and one liberal now. Will a Dipper fall on the sword for the cause. And I know which one I’dd like to see fall.
