I hate the fact that marijuana and its bi-products are under prohibition. Grow up canada and grow op. It is a healing plant used for ever by everyone. It can cure Cancer so why not let it. Ignorance is killing us.

  1. I’m pretty sure it encourages more smuggling and competiton from drug lords in Mexico, which can increase violence. Open to criticism here, not sure if that’s correct. The government has all sorts of reasons behind things that you don’t know about. Your ‘grow op’ comment is also childishly redundant, ironically.

  2. It doesn’t cure cancer by the way. It can help with nausea associated with the treatment (chemo and radiation) of cancer, but in no way is it healing. It hinders your short-term memory, there’s also that perma-fried problem that arises when people abuse it. I’m all for decriminalization, but I can see why it should be restricted; maybe like codeine.

  3. Ugh. I hate the “it can cure cancer” argument. Seriously? Seriously?! Show me one article where it has proven to stop, and reverse the growth and division of cancer cells. Yes, as the poster before me said – it helps those out with nausea and even those who are having trouble eating due to lack of appetite. I love your line about ignorance btw OP.

  4. I’m with the other posters – pot does not cure cancer, there has never been a claim that it has done so – your argument is pretty flawed, pal.

I’m all for legalization – it would certainly generate lots of tax revenue, wouldn’t it? Yep, that’s what I’m waiting for, that big headline that reads: ‘GANGA SAVES THE WORLD FROM ECONOMIC COLLAPSE’. But I won’t hold my breath.

  5. I thought you were supposed to hold your breath….
exhale slowly, and let your stresses melt away.
    mmmmmmmmm

It’s true people… it is the ultimate stimulus plan.

  6. The actual plant is quite a healing plant. I love any Hemp product.

I don’t smoke it myself, personally. But I’m all for legalizing it. How many people smoke it anyway?? What’s the point of have it illegal when I’m sure half of the board keeping it illegal is probably taking a toke when they get home? Give it time. I’m sure once they figure out how they can test for it to see if you’re under the influence while driving, etc. they’ll legalize it.

  7. I have a toke regularly but I don’t ever want to see it legalized. Decriminalized yes. But legalized, hell no! You know why? Look at what the government has done to tabacco. I sure as hell don’t want to see that happen to pot. Sure, you’re running the risk of purchasing illegal pot that could be contaminated with god knows what, but 90% of the time, it’s pretty much organic, really. Sure there’s a few chemicals used in treating certain pests, but there’s no additives to the product. Tobacco on the other hand has hundreds if not thousands of chemicals added to it during processing. All of the dangerous chemicals you see listed on the side of a pack of cigarettes are added because Health Canada says that they have to be there. Tobacco is a plant product, which will rot. The sodium benzene, arsenic etc that is added to it are preservatives to prevent it from rotting. I don’t want to see my beloved pot butchered and processed like tobacco has been. So I say leave it alone. And OP, it’s misinformed pot heads like yourself spouting “facts” about pot that make the rest of us look bad. There are plenty of good sources for reliable information on marijuana out there. Do some research and learn the facts about pot. Don’t go telling people “it can cure cancer” when it can’t, because all you’re doing is making yourself look like an idiot.

  8. Whoah whoa whoa NeverWrong…I seriously have ask you to provide proof on this:

“All of the dangerous chemicals you see listed on the side of a pack of cigarettes are added because Health Canada says that they have to be there.”

Health Canada would not require that Benzine, Arsenic and Cyanide be in the product…I am sure they require it to be indicated on the label but they are not telling companies “Hey you know what…we are going to require to put all of these nasty things be infused into your product…”

They are byproducts of the modern processing of the tobacco plant…not a Canadian Federal Government requirement.

  9. Have any of you considered marijane is not illegal because of the psychoactive drug qualities of the plant but because of all of it’s other properties? Make pot legal and yes, it may indeed save the planet, TTFN! Look what we can make from pot, a deep-rooting (hence WEED), high oxygen producing (one of the highest) renewable resource (every sic weeks) that leaves the earth rich with nutrients and prime for the next crop…. fuel, paper, plastic, textiles, epoxies, brownies (mmmm yummy), animal feed, etc. The legalization of pot puts the producers in these industries at risk. Why would we cut and sell the softwood of our ancient forests if we could grow the same yield in a single growing season? Why? Because of existing contracts and investments in the soft wood lumber and paper industry. Because of existing contracts and investments in the plastics industry. Because of existing contracts and investments in the energy industry.. you get the picture?

They’ve got you all talking regulation and taxation versus decriminalization as if the psychoactive drug qualities of pot are the issue. I’m with the OP on this one. It’s time Canada stake an international claim to a commodity that could, indeed, save our planet.

  10. I’ve kept informed over the last 35 years and know exactly why it remains illegal. Since it’s a natural plant, it can’t be trademarked or patented so it’s in the best interests of the drug companies to keep it illegal. You can thank early 20th century publisher William Randolph Hearst for demonizing it – all because he could not distinguish between hemp and pot – he was such a fucking powerhouse, it also convinced FDR. I curse those Yankee Bastards on their fucking influence in Canuckland!

  11. The difference between hemp and pot? You’ll find the “difference” between hemp and pot is similar to the difference between red roses and white ones… very little. Hemp IS pot and, yes, that’s where the snow job began. As I understand it we call it hemp when it ain’t worth smokin’ and let me be the first to second the curse.

  12. DER?: Who do you think sets forth the regulations on sterilization, cleaning and processing? Who do you think regulates which chemicals can and cannot be used in processing the tobacco? Health Canada. If it weren’t for these processes required by Health Canada, the big tobacco companies would just add their extra nicotine (to make it addictive), roll it up and ship it out. It’s because of Health Canada’s regulations on post-processed plant matter that cigarettes are full of harsh chemicals. Look at natural tobacco, like American Spirit, that has no chemical additives. It’s produced as traditional tobacco, the type smoked for centuries by native north americans and isn’t full of nasty crap. I worked in a tobacco shop for years, so I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot about tobacco and smoking in general.

  13. Never Wrong: Yes they set standards but I am sure they are not requiring or demanding these additives.

Sure they regulate how much is permissible but really now they aren’t demanding that it is there…or Spirit cigarettes would not be allowed for general sale…correct?
