Is it just me or since school has been out, I have seen an increase in panhanding. These new faces don’t look desparate..just plain lazy. Get a summer job you lazy ass pieces of shit.

  1. Why get a minimum wage job when you can make much more (sans taxes) sitting on a corner looking pathetic (with poorly written cardboard sign) and rattling a TH cup? The dead giveaway is that most of them have better footwear than the general public. If they put out their palm to me, I’m liable to spit in it.

  2. Anyone who works downtown knows who the regular bums are – just a lunchtime walk up SPR will show you just how many new, young and able bogus bums have suddenly cropped up.

  3. Last night two 20 year olds wearing hoodies were bumming on Spring Garden. I felt like taking out a bat and bashing their heads in for being the lazy pieces of shit they are.

  4. These kids are better of then me. I have always helped people out when i could but when someone asks you for money or a smoke and i dont have any they bitch at me about it! how unfair is that

  5. fuck i wish these people would get into a social program and/or stop getting other people to fund your cross country trips/binge sessions…. i HATE panhandlers.

  6. It’s the people who pose as panhandlers I can’t handle. They are depending on stupid, clueless people and you can be sure there’s lots of them out there who feel soooooo sorry for the poor little guy with the fat dog who needs to get to Kelowna.

  7. Oh, God, the Summer Panhandlers!!!!

I have lived on Spring Garden Road for 14 years, and walked to and from work twice a day, every day, in all that time, so I definitely know the difference between the regulars and the stupid kids who show up to beg only when it’s nice out.

Such nice teeth, such nice shoes, and such nice clear skin you cute little teenagers have. Oh, gee, gosh! Isn’t it just so much fun to pretend you’re homeless and abused!

And no, I will not give you money for “travelling” or for dope or for beer or for playing your plastic recorder from grade 6 music class—badly, I might add.

And don’t even get me started on those stupid pseudo-punk kiddies from Montreal that show up here after school ends and hang around downtown until the end of August (hmm, going back to grade 10?)—all because they want to take advantage of that legendary maritime “generosity” they keep hearing about.

  8. They’re all over Spring Garden Road.

One particular asshole walks around claiming to have no small change for the bus. He’s in his early/mid-20s and is stupid enough to use the same line twice in a row to two strangers who are standing beside each other.

What’s worse? They feel its their entitlement to be “helped” out.

Just today I saw one prick on Quinpool with a bag of grocery and bag of beer. He then gets his TH cup out and asks people to “give assistance” today. Also, this same prick had a gal with an infant in a stroller hanging around all day.

Disgusting. Some are even in junior and senior high and panhandling now.

  9. Fake bums piss me off too. I came from a bad situation, put myself through school, got a decent paying job, and worked my ass off to make the money you little shits try to scam at every other intersection. Go home to your mommies.

  10. I am going to panhandle so I can afford a great lawyer…do you think I should do a sign that reads:

HELP ME TAKE THE GOVT TO COURT FOR NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES

I bet you I would make a mint cha- ching

    LOL

  11. Sincere question: Why do folks get mad /disgusted/hateful/ignart/ at the homeless/impoverished people rather than the policies and the public servants?

Who is to blame: choose any combo (with egg roll please)

    (1) the poor peeps

    (2) policies

    (3) public servants

    and why?

  12. yeah, its the PSAC’s fault that lazy people who have money feel the need to rip off the public tax payers.

next time i have someone with better shoes than me ask if i can “help out today” i’m going to tell him a story about how the government is to blame.

when you don’t know what you’re talking about or just want to blame anything – its usually the government. or “politics”. *shakes head*

we loathe them b/c they’re, for the most part, lying pieces of shit with a sense of entitlement. the swindlers – and yes, thats what most are, honestly feel that its ‘our’ job to take care of them.

fuck out of here with that blame-game shit, mcgayle.

  13. Panhandling/scamming IS their summer job. At least as long as people are stupid enough to give them money.

  14. I’ll give to any organization that distributes food and goods to people in need, HOWEVER, I refuse to support anyone’s addictions – if you’re so fucked up you can’t get into a shelter, that ain’t my problem.

As for the poser kids, I can smell one in a split second because they don’t smell of desperation, they stink of arrogance. I want to shake the anklebones of anyone who gives these leeches a red cent.

Exemptions: anyone who can actually play a musical instrument, not saw it in half.

  15. My question was an honest one … why are you so defensive? Is mature chat not encouraged here?

I prefer not to use the word ‘blame’ but ‘responsible’ takes too long… LOL….

I think depending on the situation and person it could be any combo or just one. Treating some on programming is like a ‘hug-a-thug’ mentality…it coddles when it should be providing structure.

I am an ole fashioned gal..I believe in the Poor Laws to the extent they believe there is a Deserving Poor and NS has long ago forgotten that.

Elder, families, disabled and children in care should be exempt from the public alienation and class punishment for not working. Sadly so many on the streets have ‘invisible’ issues that are none of our business. There are a lot of folks on systems that have no business being there and no one says boo. I find it mostly sits around racial lines, some are socially expected and some are not.

The Undeserving Poor are those who are_______________.

  16. Yeah McGayle, it’s the government’s fault. They’re victims of society. We wouldn’t want to hold any individuals accountable for their own actions, it’s the government’s responsibility to keep them in check.

  17. TTFN: Personally I have not seen the posers you talk about. and I agree with you 100%.

WE all can help…food..clothing… furniture donations to most NPO organizations or just a neigbour needing some compassion.

AS for addictions: we do not have enough services or seriousness here in NS to deal with that issue. AS they renovate the Simpson Hall they had to close down Addiction Services for the summer so where did they all go? Where should they go?

  18. What is with all the sarcasm directed at me: dang…I am just trying to see what is up… LOL…..you should be able to tell by my posts here that I do believe there are some legit and not legit situations but even I cannot make a blanket statement on whose fault it is. Speaking of blankets please donate them as well.

Children in care will more than not use the system later on in life …why do you think that is….. is it their fault they were abused then had lazy ass case workers with little to no training then are expected to be functional adults?

  19. There’s buzzards flying around your shitcart, mcgayle.

My oldest friend has been on welfare for 10 years. She has a university education. Do you know why she’s on welfare and doesn’t work? Because she wouldn’t be able to invite all the boyfriends in who supply her smokes, booze and dope. She sleeps in till noon, reads in bed all day and never has to answer to anyone for anything. In fact, she misses the slum she used to live in because of all the hookers and drug addicts who used to sell her stolen shit for cigarettes. Doesn’t matter that there were bed bugs, that someone got murdered under her window, she misses the ‘excitement’. She thinks she’s so clever being able to live without responsibility, leave that to the suckers, she claims. There are plenty of people out there who think they’re entitled to live this way. They ruin it for the truly needy.

  20. Nah TTFN …. not flies here…LOL…….

I agree with you about those who ruin it for the Deserving Poor. The challenge the rules of Darwinism for sure.

This is your oldest friend—she must have some redeeming qualities then 😉

Tax payers should not be supporting her. PERIOD.

    Next case please.

  21. ha!

I will shove out change to people playing guitar sax or whatever i guess their earning it BUT the cup on the string doesnt cut it

  22. Newsflash, crack heads, whores, alcoholics, dumb ass panhandlers, etc… all use food banks to feed their kids and take advantage of social programs too

    Newsflash, lazy bitches are unemployable

    Give or don’t… don’t pressume. Don’t judge.

BTW, the moment human beings invented antibiotics the rules of Darwanism (on that scale) were forever broken

  23. If someone is wasting my fucking tax dollars, you’re fucking right I’m going to judge.

Darwinism’s ‘Survival of the Fittest’ took into great account sheer human stupidity.

  24. People don’t realize that Darwin was talking about genes when the talk of “survival of the fittest” was coined. The ability to pass on your genes to as many offpsring is what makes you “fit”.

Genghis Khan and Ramsses II were two of the most fit bastards to ever walk the Earth. And they did little walking…

  25. I love people who say “Don’t judge”. Who the fuck are you trying to kid. We judge people everyday on a whole slew of things. We are humans, it’s one of the things we do.

  26. Couldn’t Darwin also have been talking about survival of the fittest… species? (hence, “on that scale”)

I think the individual has a right to chose their own quality of life. They have a right and opportunity to sink to the bottom just as you have the right and opportunity to rise to the top. There will always be ambitious men and there will always be losers. Just because we, as a nation, prefer a higher quality of living doesn’t mean every person in this country must share those values. This is where “it takes a village to raise a child”, normalized public education and communistic values become apparent in our society. It’s always the right thing to do to care for each other, isn’t it?

  27. Survival of the fittest is a misconception, kay, major misconception. He was talking about the ability to pass on your genetic material. If you can produce as many offpsring as possible with your geno type, the better.

But, I only studied anthro in university. You probably didn’t study any so I’m sure you know more than I do (or anyone else). Without-a-doubt!

  28. I read the book… several Darwin texts, actually (super superlative writing… good bedtime reading). I have a lay-man’s interest in bio-science. We’re just fiddling with semantics anyway. Wouldn’t you say an extinct species has failed to ‘survive the fittest’ since they failed to pass on genetic traits sufficient for their (overall) survival? The term, survival of the fittest’ is subject to scale, is it not?

  29. Wow, I just got back and got caught up..great discussion…. as a Darwinist myself I have always thought he was misinterpreted into English and that fittest could mean hardiest which would be the antithesis of what Einstein would have called the fittest which would be our most humane and morally sound which round again would be against hardiest as hardy and morality do not have a linear relationship….

    what was the fecking quetion???

    LOL

Humans are intrinsically lazy..they use their ‘rational brain’ to find new ways to be lazier…so are these UNdeserving not just humans in the purist form and the rest of us are the freaks?

    exhale…

  30. I love how kay is the one getting up on a high horse saying “don’t judge” and telling us to let people live how they want to..yet gay bashing on another bitch..make up your mind hun.

  31. McGayle: they’re not exactly “renovating” Simpson Hall…it’s now a big hole in the ground. What’s going there in its stead are four bungalows apparently, ten beds each, for folks that need help to transition back into the community.

As far as I know they’re running the detox out of the Purdy building.

  32. “I read the book… several Darwin texts, actually (super superlative writing… good bedtime reading).”

    Fucking comical.

  33. Realist, true enough….I used that word because I read it printed like that and thought it was comical because all I seen was a hole too… LOL…. I guess renovation is the avante garde term? 😉

Transitional housing is all I know.

Not sure though but heard that not all people were accommodated at Purdys. Larger issue is folks need to marinate a spell and wonder about what sometimes happens to people who are not in control of their circumstances like this one that displaces people even temporarily and then we see an influx of people on the street panhandling or not……

I think our most vulnerable people are a measure of what we are not doing right and we bash them because it is easier to do that than fix the wrong.

  34. AS not to upset myself I will be brief…In LA there is a place where legal and illegal Mexicans wait before the sun comes up and they beg for work in a way that makes shame feel ashamed.

My bro warned me not to go there and he was right I could not handle it. When you see people who are really poor and beg to work to feed their families it is a witnessing that you cannot unwitness from your mind. It upset me greatly and I never forget to mention it when talking about poverty and work and blessing.

In the DR you have 10 year old childrend running after you with polish to do your sandals so they can eat that day…..poverty is relative and the greatest waste I see is when folks are too uppity to work for 8.00 and holding out for 15.00 while living ghettofab lives and complaining about everything and doing nothing.

No one should have to beg for work any more than they should have to beg for food..WE are a developed nation that brags about setting humane standards……. yet we have so much pain in this nation that stands by as indigenous people are becoming extinct.

Yes govt and policy has done a lot of harm and in times the person is ultimately responsible for their own….. but when they cannot help themselves there should be nothing wrong with asking for help free of judgment and punition.

  35. “as a Darwinist myself I have always thought he was misinterpreted into English and that fittest could mean hardiest”

Last time I checked, Darwin was English and wrote in English. One would think he would have used correct words on a project of this size. Or at least have been questioned or ask to clarify any ambiguities.

  36. Holy Shit mcgayle…nine posts and probably more to come. You need to get out for a walk or take up some type of hobby.

  37. When they ask for change a friend of mine hits back with “interac is killing you guys”.

  38. Senor, if are you incapable of processing my content I suggest you either get a library card (they are free) or just ignore my posts.

Bro: perhaps you could have asked me what I meant rather than offer your usual banal replies. The English language being the most bastardized language is often misread and misunderstood and misinterpreted…

To expect one to have asked Darwin for clarification on anything is most amusing. AS a Darwinist I am sure I am more familiar with him and his contributions including the ones deliberately misinterpreted to support the unequal treatment of non-whites, than you.

    My original position remains.

He has, like all others, used the language of his time (1800s), and I have interpreted that to mean, after much study, fittest= hardiest, which makes sense and fits. I would go into more with you but this is not the forum nor would I take the time.

Cost-benefit analysis of my time is also evidence of Darwinism.

ONLY Darwin can correct the point of fact.

  39. “Darwinist”.. who invented that word?

Angel, what do you think Darwin would have made of two human beings failing to copulate again and again and again…? You don’t think he would have considered our species special because of a variety of mating techniques (that fail), do you?

People are inherently lazy? That’s right out of a textbook defining A-Type leadership behavior, mcgayle. Control freak much? You must be stressed out 100% of the time trying to control everything and everybody. Keep it up… gives me a bit of (evil) happiness. Thanks!

  40. LOL..me too Jane…my son had this awesome one and tried to teach me..

Every time I shot myself…… dang and IT HURT!

Looks good on me…. it was intended for the brats that harmed my garden …. heheheh

  41. Hitting yourself with a slingshot is either pretty amazing or stupid. Now a sling on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish.

  42. :O

I am going to opt for stupid…in my case… I would hurt myself with the thick elastic band or whatever I was using as a projectile.

  43. If the School system would only show a little initiative, they could easily spot the losers/time wasters early on in their academic careers and enroll them in a special ed course for panhandling. They could teach them the virtues of which street corner is the most lucrative, which illness to fake, where to get the mangy looking mutt, which cardboard stands up best to shitty weather, and last but not least; do not wear the $100 sneakers and try to cadge from the poor working stiff.

  44. Darwin also tried mating his family with close relatives such as the Huxley’s and Gauton’s in attempts to create a super species. Wells did too.

  45. I don’t find these panhandlers are better dressed than the average guy, even some students & working class dress scruffy, but if they are so down and out how do some of them afford to keep a dog that is with some of them, with no water for the dog to drink. These bums want to be bums, there are social programs out there, they just want to be bums, just like ones that procreate and get the system or family to pay, bums, bums, bums lacking common sense. Some deserve help, some don’t want to earn it and some things never change. Who pays the rent?

  46. I have given the pan handlers a fair chance in my books, I have hung out, drank with, smoked with hell I have even played dice with some of them and I heard sobs stories of how they are down on their luck and what not and felt bad.
    HOWEVER!…..
I was hanging out with them due to my friend befriended them who they used and tosses, they now live in chebucto houses, have a car, have smokes and booze therefore theya re doing okay and dont need any more help.
