The fact that you can’t get OUT of costco without having your receipt checked and, a TV’s kind of a conspicuous thing to steal should’ve tipped them off that you didn’t jack the tv so…wtf?
Who called? Was it a costco employee? DID you have your receipt checked on the way out? If you didn’t that could explain it, but even if this was the case you’d think they’d come after you and ask to see your receipt.
I’m wondering though, OP, why would the RCMP be called/come to harass you? They have no jurisdiction in HRM; it would be Halifax Police so that doesn’t make sense that RCMP would give you grief (I’m assuming, I could be wrong, that you could’ve told the RCMP to suck it since they don’t have any jurisdiction within HRM and there’s only one Costco around and it’s IN HRM so…)

OP: You should call the RCMP/HRP whichever it was that harrassed you and make a complaint. Make sure you point out the fact that the officer didn’t even ask you for a reciept before asking you for your ID.
See, the whole story just fucking makes me angry (anyone who says halifax isn’t one of the most racist cities in canada needs their head checked, and it’s not only against black people, it’s against anyone who looks different/isn’t white (and even then…)), but the fact that it was an RCMP officer that’s responsible for treating you like shit REALLY chaps my ass. Again, I might be wrong, but afaik RCMP has no jurisdiction in HRM. I know it’s a bit late for this now, but too bad you didn’t get his badge number.
I’d cancel my membership at costco if it was a staff member who called the cops. Hell, if you can confirm this I’ll probably cancel my membership too. This is disgusting.

Police have jurisdiction everywhere. HRM & RCMP have an arrangement to work together. The complainer is a student but seems unable to clearly & concisely describe what happened.
All police officers have a name tag, I presume you can read. If you can you can read how to lay a complaint by going to the HRM PD or RCMP website.
