As a male server with years of experience, and managerial expertise in the industry, I’m frustrated! Concerning re-acuring job ads on local websites looking for “waitresses” for your restaurant. I resent the sexist nature of your wording. I’m more than happy to relinquish a position to a female of greater qualifications, but to not offer an open position to a qualified male is beyond human decency. I’ve realized recently in Halifax that is stat quo as most restaurants I’ve visited have hired “unqualified” females for their “looks/tits”! —Not Alone

Reoccurring and status quo……..
Well for starters ”re-acuring” is not a word. Most males who have been working as servers in ‘the industry’ are usually ”waitresses”. This is fine with me as long as the person escorts me to the table, takes my drink/food order, brings my food, checks in once and finish up with the bill. Any more interaction I want to kick you in the nuts.
well, if you have years and years then you would want to work in the high end places, which traditionally prefer male servers. female servers end up in lower to middling places.
so…..if you are applying at maxies or hotters (delib sp) you will remain frustrated
its sexism towards males, frankly its ignored. They are to busy fighting the evils of firemen and fishermen of the world to notice this.
Maybe you just don’t look so good in a mini-skirt *shrugs*
If I as a customer prefer women servers, then is the business discriminating when they hire more women?
Just go see your plastic surgeon and get a better set of tits.
I resent the sexist nature of your wording Mr. Man. Maybe the “unqualified” women were hired because they were brilliant, friendly and hard-working and didn’t have a giant chip on their shoulder.
People will always be pointing out spelling and grammar on the internet, I may as well except it.
ha ha. through that one in there for gigs.
That one too.
OMG, the world is, like, so unfair dude!!!
That’s the world letting you know you’re a giant pussy and you should go get a job at timmies like a real man!!!
Oh, cry me a freakin’ river, dude.
My first career was in the restaurant business, and as Molly points out, the high end places usually have an all male staff.
If you can’t get a good restaurant gig, I can assure you it is not due to your gender, but to your work habits and your attitude.
I’m a her, and I’ve actually noticed the kijiji trend and I find it odd; however, I have applied to jobs before that have said ‘hiring waiters’, just because the word is gender-specific does not necessarily stop you from handing out a resume. Also if women are as you say are just getting ‘hired for their look/tit’s’ wouldn’t that be sexist towards men and women? Because then women are hired just to be objectified in a professional environment, and men are being excluded from the hiring process.
“Unqualified” equals minimum wage and a better bottom line for most restaurant owners. I personally believe that’s the angle more than tits or gender.
Yes, agree with you OB. Let’s see some more dick!
