Perhaps a gay man less interested in kids would like the idea that their swimmers were going to: more likely a financially stable home (by virtue of assisted reproduction – unfair but a fact), increased chances of being a gay couple – therefore forced into self advocacy and a strong sense of self, therefore, increased chances of being a progressive thinker. Being out on ones profile would possibly keep the sperm out of Georgia and the Babptist church etc…they can keep the recessive traits. So with all those advantages, wouldn’t that be a neat kid knocking on your door at 18 years old (if you checked that box: “identity disclosure”, you don’t have to). I’m a straight girl from a queer family and thought about the donor route. Things have changed since but I now want to recruit some rainbow in every sense of the word, any bank would give you the info…it’s more fun than donating blood 😉

Actually, it’s a pretty common opinion held my many that mixed babies just tend to be gorgeous ‘Fool’. Maybe not more gorgeous, just have the odds stacked that they’ll be cute, cute kids.
In the meantime, as the globe warms or stays the same or goes backwards…it simply doesn’t matter: a fair haired blue-eyed, Irish-skinned lad is more likely to wind up with a melanoma or any other skin cancer AND skin ageing signs than any person of colour or of 1/2 colour or of 1/16th colour – that’s a fact. Another fact: you are more likely to pair recessive traits when pairing from similar populations (really, science 101), “4-5 generations” not the point. Two white Northern Europeans will more likely wind up with a kid with ie. hemochromatosis, cystic fibrosis… among others than with a mixed ethnicity gene pool. The point was that these donors are anonymous, who knows if it is someone’s cousin theyr’e about to be impregnated by?! so decrease the chances – why not?!

umm…duh there was no mention of anything to the contrary, there was no mention of the CHILD’s orientation. FYI however, there is growing evidence that children of gay couples tend to be high achievers, see the link at the bottom of the article.
Agreed: “first world” but it’s not a problem. The point is, expanding options is a good idea, especially given that many gay couples use sperm banks – as do ethnic minorities. For ethnicities that would like ‘similar’ features to their partner/husband, there are predominantly Northern European options in sperm banks, so, a gay man of colour would be giving these couples more options than the only 2 ie. indian donors that exist for example.

I think you’ve come far enough in the logical leaps required here to realize that in order for gay couples to produce children, SOME sort of donation is involved. So.. ok. Good job. But why does the donor have to be gay? How about choosing a donor based on the personality and physicality that works with what you’re looking for and let nature do the rest?
Gay couples can have a straight donor. Just so you’re aware. It’s not like some sort of epic genetic mismatch is going to happen. So don’t discriminate against the breeders. You’re looking to breed after all.
I’m no evolutionary biologist so take what I say with a grain of salt but I don’t think that having a gay donor is more or less likely to make the offspring gay or straight. I think a lot of factors are involved, most mysterious, in producing a child who is gay.

The point of the post isn’t for gay donors to go to gay families to have gay children, it says that nowhere. The point is that generally, gay men, in particular gay men of colour should donate… to ALL families. There’s no mention of the orientation of children – I think people are reading into this and projecting their own issues too much. Gay men have sperm to give, come from a community that most likely makes use of sperm banks more than other communities (charity starts…home…whatnot), men of colour can enrich the options for people of all colours, creeds and sexual orientation. Whether mixed raced babies are cuter is totally subjective IMO. That said, we can’t have enough mixing of the races to me. The more we can cross racial and cultural barriers with some commonality (in this case children) the more we dilute our differences.
