Why do people press the wheelchair button on the doors while leaving the ferry or entering? It’s just ridiculous you lazy bastards. The only reason people should use that is for Bicyclist and people with WHEELCHAIRS!

Why does it really matter? If I have my 2 year old with me, if she wants to press to button to open the door…I let her, It’s not hurting anyone. As well, people have a real habit of slamming doors in the face of someone carrying a child in one side, wearing a bookbag, holding a coffee mug and sometimes a bag of cloths…so ya i use my foot or hip to open the doors…I wouldn’t consider that lazy
Patience, grasshopper, patience.
Yikes
Bide your time. Patience is a virtue. With those few extra seconds, reflect on how to improve your short winded life.
Your lazy too. The ferry? come on! I swim the harbour. You riding the boat across is the same as that door button.
Possibly because it’s an easy way to keep the door open for multiple people and not get whanged in the face?
Also, If your hands are full, what is the harm in hitting the handicap button….Its not like its doing anyone else any harm??? It’s not laziness, its convenience!!
You all have good points but I’m going to side with OP because I too hate everyone and their uncle using the wheelchair buttons all the god damn time….. and I’m in an argumentative mood this morning. BTW, I’d like to clarify that this applies to all the buttons and not just the over-utilized ferry one…
Does the button have a picture of a lazy cow with her arms full? or a parent with a kid? it’s a handicapped sign and meant thusly. If you’re hands are so full you can open a fucking door, you have issues because not every door in the world is going to magically open for you.
Some to think of it, it’s basically the expecting mother parking spot all over again. Yes, it’s a convenience, but should everyone really be using it? it’s not meant for everyone….
whatever…. fuck it.
you must have a sweet life if all you have to bitch about is some non-handycapped person pressed the button. WTF get over it. this has to be one of the lames bitches i have seen yet.
YEah, I guess I deserve to be taken out and shot because I use a fucking handiapp button for conveniance..shit
it’s amazing what you get pissed at when you’re in a shitty mood.
That I agree with…My comments completely change when I’m in a bad mood
Yeah people pushing buttons to open doors is right the fuck up there with famine, war, poverty, drug dealers getting 12 year olds hooked on crack and cats
Not sure if this applies to all doors that have the Handicapped button but the one at my son’s daycare requires you to push it. By not using the button it messes with the mechanism and the automatic door then stops working, which would then cause a huge problem for someone who requires it.
I have to disagree that it is lazy to push the button as most of those doors are more difficult to open as they are set to open slowly because of the automatic door setting and they tend to shut faster thus smacking the person behind you.
Well if that is all you have to concentrate on then I say your doing pretty good buddy. Really…don’t sweat the small stuff.
Day-Um, OP.
1. ‘Wheelchair button’ works, but a more accurate term would be ‘OPEN DOOR BUTTON’. That’s what it does. Even though it was installed due to accessibility laws, it works for everyone.
2. If a person does push it, that person is saving many other people the trouble of dealing with the door…sounds nice to me.
3. Don’t watch any futuristic movie ever made. …NO MANUAL DOORS. Your head would explode.
well in that case, should everyone be using transporters to go from one room to the next? so the door opens automatically…so what, you still have to physically walk to the next room. Should transport all the time? probably not…..
know what? I’ve calmed down a bit so I think I’m done the tirade of defending this silly thread.
besides, when was the last time we had a “world poverty” bitch? or famine bitch? y’all don’t think about that as much either so don’t strike me down for talking about the bitch that actually presented itself.
ps. it would be sad to have a “another boring global poverty bitch” flag come to fruition.
Honestly I do it everyday(7:30am ferry to Hali)…and the reason I do it? To be courteous to those that are behind me…I am in a rush most mornings but would like to hold the door for the next person (and those doors swing back like they have a malicious mind of their own!).
OP you need to chill…it’s call courtesy…say it with me…courtesy, you know…kindness to your fellow human beings?
I used the handicapped button at the mount library last week when I had a bag of books, a laptop bag, a purse, a bag of mcdonalds (can’t study without shitty foodz) and a drink in my hands. It was *awesome* because no one would hold the door for me even though four people went in right ahead of me 🙁
I agree though that it does take an annoyingly long time for those seemingly able bodied to press the button. However, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t add that some people have weaker arms and it’s difficult opening those doors (the elderly, for example)…when I had my bus accident I didn’t get to the gym for a good two months and lost the resistance in my arms (I suspended my membership so I couldn’t go and do my arms) and let me just say it was rough opening doors for a while because my arms were w-e-a-k. Never pressed the handicapped button though, but some people in that situation may be inclined to.
meant to saywrite 7:30 or earlier…more often than not it’s the 6:307am, dang it mornings suck.
Raf:”Your lazy too. The ferry? come on! I swim the harbour. You riding the boat across is the same as that door button.’
Dude…too freaking funny, I almost fell out of my chair!
wait…does the OP mean that they are pushing the button and then standing there for it to open?!?!?! Oh if that is the case…OP you are right, that is fucking lazy. I hit the button and straight-arm the door all in one go…
Usually I think Raf’s posts are contradictory and douchy on purpose, but this one actually made me LOL for reals.
During the rush off the ferry I will push the button on my way through the door to keep it from closing behind me, but if it hasn’t already been pushed before I get there, I push it and then open it. It’s good to keep those doors open because there are people with strollers and bikes coming, and the quicker you can get everyone out of the ramp, the better off for everyone.
But I totally agree with not pushing the button when you’re just by yourself trying to get into the mall or something and could easily use a normal door. That IS lazy.
