Servers can legally refuse service to anyone. If they get caught with an underage person getting a drink, ID or not, they are screwed. Sucks but if she looks young she runs the risk.
That is a lil messed up… I’m legal age to drink now, but back in May, I was not… I had an ID from ONTARIO that said I was 21 and I still got served up until I turned 19 then started using my own… Bartenders, and bouncers really need to wake up
Look at it from the Establishments POV.If a government official came to check on them, they’re going to ID your friend (because she looks so young), and if the ID turns out to be fake, the establishment is screwed, not you or your friend.That is one reason why legally they have the right to refuse service. They have to legally watch thier backs.Unfortunate as it may be, it’s necessary.
See? Everyone uses fake IDs and while it’s usually not a problem, it’s the servers perogative to accept and ID or not. It can be a pretty serious offence for someone to be using fake ID so if a server gets caught with an underage person drinking usually that person won’t even show the ID to authorities.= servers gets a huge fine along with their workplace.In the end, tough it out or find another place to drink. Someone will take it.
What exactly could a city official do with an ID that a bartender couldn’t? If they think its someone else’s picture then ask for a second piece, the info on the card, etc. City officials aren’t exactly CSI, if the bartenders want to go the extra mile they would be in the clear.
“City officials”? If you mean cops then they basically almost never get given fake ones = fraud. If you mean city office folks or people in low paying jobs, they could generally care less and there’s no penalty if it’s fake.Seriously, why the heck would a server even bother going the extra mile for a young woman who “might” be 19? It’s not like it’s very likely she’s going to be a big tipper, come in every day or drink 12 of the $7.00 pints anyway. So, essentially, a waiter/waitress who depends on their tips, might make say $1-$3 on a table of three younger people who also, mind you, take up space and often hang around smoking, sipping and talking about class for hours. It’s a turnover based business and it just makes no sense for anyone to risk a big fine so they can be stuck with a dud of a table. No one truly cares if you drink or not. If you want some advice, start going to the place more often. Tip a little bigger, be nice and if by chance you can get labled a “regular” then you won’t have any problems at all. If that’s too much to do then stick with campus bars and downtown spots that cater to the young crowd.
Hey there are posters – all over places that sell Booze- that you need to look at least 26years old and be able to provide a legal ID that proves you are the legal age for alcohol consumption, and that legalling the Bartender/ Server/ Cashier or the establisment itself has the right to refuse to sell you any thing, and anytime. yep it sucks but it is true, on the upside when you are in your thirty’s and starting to feel like you may be getting old- go out and get asked for ID- it will be a nice little treat for yourself!
I got refused into a bar once when I was 20. I dropped 35 pounds, got a new hairstyle and looked a bit different from my photo and I had a hell of a time trying to explain that the ID was really me.(to which it was). I had got in the club a few times before this incedent so I was a bit thrown off. But, they did have the right to not let me in if my ID didn’t look like me; door procedure. They need to do this, to ensure not to get shut down. I got a new picture ID, no problems.Point being, shit happens; especially when it comes to liquor
