Act like a professional, Wheels. Part of being a professional driver, and with you the term is used loosely, is your overall attitude. The road is your workplace, and workplace safety is as much your responsibility as it is everyone elses. If you can’t drive and act in a manner that is conducive to everyone’s safety then, you don’t deserve to hold your position. You’re transporting people for fuck sakes, children, the elderly, infants, the disabled, etc…and putting their health and safety at risk for any reason is a deplorable. Public safety should be your number one concern. If it isn’t, you’re in the wrong business!!!

Honestly, I think buses need to be even MORE aggressive when they’re on the road. They signal and more than half the time, cars try and dart around them. And when they dart around them and the bus cuts them off anyway, the driver of the car has a shit fit when they’re CLEARLY in the wrong. I’ve seen instances where the drivers of the cars have pulled into the lanes going the opposite way to try and get around the bus pulling out causing the bus to have to slam on their brakes and have people standing falling like dominos just so the driver can avoid two cars having a head-on when the car driver should have just been patient and yielded to the bus.
And at 3 or 4 way stops cars regularly try to cut off buses. I’m sure any driver that has to turn from South Park to Inglis on a regular basis at that 4 way knows exactly what I’m talking about.
Buses are treated like SHIT on the roads by car drivers and pedestrians who must think buses can stop on a dime. But as we’ve seen in the past, there’s a reason for the saying “I could get hit by a bus and killed.” Are people really that stupid ? If a bus hits you or your car, do you not think your car or your body will sustain much more damage than the bus?
FFS people! Buses are pains in the ass to drive behind, but all you have to do is wait for the next time it stops and drive around it while people are getting on or off — not when they’re about to pull out.
Meh… all vehicles on the road get treated the same way. You can be aggressive without being dangerous or acting like a dick, and when you are paid to drive, frustration is no excuse.
Try delivering tower cranes down in the hole at the WTCC, winding around subdivisions with 14 foot wide blasting mats, unloading heavy equipment on the side of the road, or driving down fucked off country roads with 75 foot long bridge trusses and see if anyone gives you an inch. Driving a bus is a fucking joke and so is Wheels!!!!

For one Harper, trucking is not Transit nor vice versa. With trucking, your load doesn’t interact with you, in a human way. If you can’t give that deeper reflection, I doubt your CV. I challenge you to drive route 1 in a 60 footer, scheduled 45 minutes each way, no matter the time of day. Then 5 minutes later, start it again. Then do it 7 or 9 times more after that.
Remember, the majority of the public couldn’t give a shit about those logistics, just the late arrival at the stop. Some riders, mercifully few, feel entitled to verbally or physically abuse. Having been assaulted twice on the job, once involving a lost time injury at work, I challenge both of you to take the plunge.

A bus driver in HRM!!! LOL, I guess with 640 accidents for MT in the 2012-2013 year starting and ending in October and they were committed by aprox 120-130 of the same drivers, it’s hard to argue with the math on that one. That’s almost 6 accidents per year, per driver. That means there are at least 100 of you wankers that don’t deserve your jobs.
Accidents have jack shit to do with your cargos ability to speak. You know how long I’d have my job if I even had 1 accident, let alone 5 accidents in a year, regardless of who’s “at fault”?
