Being an immigrant to Haligonia of about a year now, I have come to love the charm and the friendly atmosphere that is endemic in this province. However there is one thing that drives me mad and that is four way stops here. People, stop being nice and follow the rules as per your driving manual. There have been countless times as I have sat at a four way stop and no one goes. Eventually every one starts moving to the centre of the intersection. Please when you have the right of way just go. Another thing, pedestrians look bothways before you J walk, although you have the right of way at a cross walk simply walking into the middle of the road with your ipod on will not save you from a 1.2 ton vehicle. an people who Cannot merge…you do NOT stop,you slowly merge with on coming traffic..if you cannot do this,STAY HOME.
Stuck at a 4-way, I’ve been there a few times.
Mkae eye contact with the person who has the right of way and give them the “go-ahead”.
Not off topic since you mentioned peds, yesterday at the intersection of Hammonds Plains & Bedford Highway, there was a young lady at the crosswalk, she had 100% right of way. Instead of blindly stepping into the crosswalk, she made eye contact with me and made sure that I was stopping.

The four-way stop conundrum.
I think counting to four is beyond some drivers.
I also think that some drivers interpret a four-way stop as an opportunity to take turns, ie., one from each direction and then start again. This is wrong. A four-way stop is a “first in – first out” scenario. That’s the way the traffic regulations are written. It’s a subtle difference but one that apparently escapes some folks.
A minor irritant but irritating nonetheless.
OP is deluded into thinking we can count even to 4, based on what I see at Dartmouth Crossing every day. Commandante, I think people can’t be bothered to wait or even figure it out, we have gotten so fuckin lazy as a group that we can’t even wait 15 seconds so it is now a stop-and-go, not stop-and-wait-your-turn.

if you have been here a year, you would know this is ow they drive, al the time. not just at 4 way stops. and if it bugs you so much, then take a fucking bus.
I hate hitting a 4 way intersection with 3 way stop signs… there’s always one idiot willing to run into you, because they feel you should stop to!

When your a pedestrian making eye contact with a driver is monument. You’re life depends on it. I too, see far to many people either texting or deeply entranced into their ipods. It scares the bejus out of me, when I’m behind the wheel.

We have far less four-ways than most major cities so I guess we’re not used to them..
