So I have an hour for lunch. Plenty of time to walk the 2 minutes the cute little place that has fantastic sandwiches, walk back to work, and spend some time in the sun before heading back into my windowless office right?

Apparently not so.

Today when I entered said cute little place there was one person in front of me. I placed my order to go, while about 7 people walked in behind me in the next few mins. So I went to sit at the window and wait for my sandwich to be made.

And I waited… and waited… and watched all the people behind me leave. Then I watched more people come in, order, and be served. Now, I understand that some things are faster than others – grabbing a slice of pizza, or some soup to go, or a brownie. Yes, those things take less time than a sandwich. But for my sandwich to take as long as it did, they must have had to slaughter the cow and roast the beef just as I placed my order. What the hell! I had to boot it back to the office so I could scarf it down at my desk.

I don’t mind a place that takes a little longer for a good product. But when they serve others first and I’m stuck waiting, it really tries my patience!

  1. Yeah they probably waited on others for their “quick” piece of pizza or bowl of soup so much as to neglect your sandwich.

You should’ve spoken up after 5 or so minutes. Shouldn’t take any longer than 5-10 minutes to make a sandwich, and uh, you were there first so everyone else who came in behind you should’ve been served after you. Again, you should’ve spoken up about this!

  2. Cause a stink at the time, not later that week on an online forum. The people that need to hear your bitching are the employees and managers, not us. Not that we don’t appreciate the rant, but we can’t ensure your sandwich will be made at lightspeed next time. Speak up!

  3. After ten minutes, you should have done your best Steve Martin EX-CUUUUUSSSEEE ME!!! And ask about the damn sandwich. If they say they haven’t started it, find yourself another cute little place that day. Or you could ask when you order: How long will that take? if you’re really in a rush. All it takes is some lung power, sweetcakes.

  4. oops, apparently I just made a random comment on some bitch cause it’s not here..quoted:

    TTFN, that looks nasty..

  5. TTFN, Steve Martin… LOL! OP, God gave you a mouth. It’s not just for stuffing. Use it better.

  6. Yeah, I definately would have said something after the first couple of people came and went. And I still wouldn’t go back.

  7. Why the fuck would someone go to a place after work when they want to eat their lunch?

I’ve been in the same boat. Went to a place for a “quick lunch”, (had 30 minutes for lunch, more than enough time to make a pita and serve it). Got my meal 45 minutes later.

They aren’t in business anymore. Lasted 1.5 years I think. Nice people, no restaurant skills.

  8. ????? A fucking hour for lunch!? AAAAAAAAArgh!!!!! (again for all the peons who are forced to wolf down the lunch they brought, at their desks/workstations, because the workload is staggering..always) AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! An hour? Oh ya baby I’m cryin’ a river for you! I haven’t seen a lunch…HOUR since high school! Grow a set and tell the plug behind the counter to move it along…you only have an HOUR! In an hour I could drive to CT, buy a fucking barbecue, assemble it, drive to the grocers, buy the ribs and all the fixin’s, grill lunch for all my co-workers, and still make it back in time! Joseph, Mary and the wee donkey! 60 fucking minutes!

ok…just pullin’ yer leg. For those who still manage to get an entire hour for lunch, my hat is off 🙂 Enjoy. Hope ya get a couple of coffee breaks thrown in too.

  9. “Of course it’s unpaid..no work, no pay ;~)”

Not always, I always get half my breaks paid for. It’s gonna suck when I get out into the non-government sector.

  10. Try writing a letter to the manager/owner…you might get a free lunch as a courtesy……staff need to be politely reminded that some are watching and waiting, not liking the unintended disrespect at hurried lunch/ breaks…. Each consumer has the right to be treated the same regardless of how detailed your meal is….
