I recently was asked at a certain grocery store check out if I wanted to make a donation to the charity that they were sponsoring. Sure, I like karma. I found out after I made the small donation, that if the cashier forgets to ask someone to make a donation they get a free item, which comes out of her pay!!
What the hell??? So either way, the store gets a donation to the charity. What is really, really wrong with that picture?? I think their charitable habits are super crappy!! —Likes Karma

  1. Plus the store gets the tax receipt for all those ‘donations’ people give. OP, don’t get those stores a cent. Save your donations and if you want to give, do it where you personally get the tax receipt.

  2. Karma is bullshit.
Give because there is a need, and because it is right to. Just giving to get? Not very “enlightened”.
    Namaste, motherfucker.

  3. Taking money off your pay???? Can an employer really do this. Especially for this type of situation.

As the employee I would be asking alot of questions

  4. punitively taking money off of someone’s pay for any reason is basically against labor code. please check again. I’ll bet that part of the bitch is not accurate.

  5. And then, at the Christmas Daddies telephon or wherever the fuck they make the big announcement with their donation, it’s donated by the kind people of the SuperSobeys, not you and the 100’s of other people duped into helping their marketing machine.

  6. That does not sound legal on the part of the employer. This needs to be brought to light.
How do they decide what free item the shopper who wasn’t asked gets? The package of gum or the $25.00 sirloin steak.

  7. ..I know for a fact that an employer CANNOT deduct anything from your pay..this happened to myself a while back; also a store CANNOT make you pay for breakage.

  8. http://www.gov.ns.ca/lae/employmentrights/…

Some employers make deductions from employees’
pay for losses, shortages, damage, etc. Also, some
employers may make deductions for employee debts
that are not for purchases on account. These
    deductions:
must not take the employee’s gross wages below
    minimum wage
must be authorized by a clear agreement between the
employer and the employee. Deductions are
authorized by the employee when there is a written
agreement or when the employee has acted in a way
that shows he/she accepts the deduction. We
recommend that employers use written authorizations
    for all such deductions
if the deduction is for losses incurred while the
employee is working, it must be supported by a
written authorization by the employee. The
authorization should be made in advance, ideally
when the employee is hired. Authorizations made
after the loss occurs will be open to challenge. The
authorization should specify the kind and amount of
deductions that will be made. It should be dated
    and signed by the employee
if the deduction is for losses caused by customers
leaving the employer’s business without paying for
the purchase of goods or services, the employer
must be able to show that the loss is the fault of the
    employee

  9. you don’t have to give, if you don’t want to. no one and i mean no one was twisting your arm. and if they were, the have them charged with assault.

  10. WOW!! That is one of the most terrible things I have ever heard! I am you glad you mentioned this OP, it really makes you wonder if it goes to charity at all? Very valid bitch! Poor employees:(
Ps- liked how you got around naming the grocery chain by calling it ” super” crappy:D LMAO!!

  11. if you think that’s bad miss happy, stick around^^tho the bitch smells funny, doesn’t ring true

  12. Most charities trickle down the money to the real causes once the top heavy administrations and PR companies take the cream of the donations, sometimes up to 70%. I refuse to give to any of the fuckers. I’d rather give to the food bank and do some good now.

  13. This isn’t true, I work for this store you speak of as a cashier (maybe not the exact one but the same chain). I have not asked ONE person that has come through my lane for a donation. I don’t like when people do it to me so I’m not going to do it to other people. There is no penalty for not asking at my store, it’s not that I don’t like kids, I just don’t like bring pressured into donating.

If you want to donate, go directly to the source, don’t go through a grocery store.

  14. Whoever told you the free item comes out of the cashier’s pay is full of shit OP. Someone is either trying to get you upset or talking out their ass.

  15. I give at my church. I trust my priest (who has taken a vow of poverty) to distribute the money to those who need it.

  16. I also work at for the chain which is currently doing the charity drive. The cashier is NOT responsible for paying for the chocolate bar, it is simply a way to encourage asking every customer. Also, as far as the money not going to the correct people, or to the charity at all, a certain store within the chain you are speaking of raised just over 18K last year, which the used to write a check to a family in the area to buy a wheelchair accessible van, so their son can get back and forth to school everyday. Maybe you should check some facts before you all start ranting over false information.
