Ya know, racism wouldnt be such an issue if you didn’t walk around thinking everyone around you was a racist. Same with twisting other peoples words around making it seem like they’re racist. Seriously the problem with it is YOU. Just because someone says no to you does NOT mean it is because of the colour of your skin, and you even suggesting it shows that you are the racist one and you seem to ENJOY having racism around you. Seriously, grow up. —Not the racist

  1. you can’t possibly think people like being discriminated against? maybe it’s the actual racists that people have to deal with (all the time) that make a bad name for the rest of us. how many times have i heard someone say something racist, and then follow up with,” but i have a black friend so it’s ok” racism isn’t just about white hoods and swastika’s, it’s in the everyday life of the average nova scotian and we don’t acknowledge it. i suggest you go somewhere where you are a minority, and stay there for a while, before you start telling people how they prefer to be treated.

  2. I must have messed up my first post 🙁

tf, re-read the bitch. It’s about crying rasism when you don’t get what you want. Oh, I didn’t get the job – rasist. What no vancancies – rasist. What do you mean, I can’t have a key to this gate – rasist. Even computers are rasist ffs.

So, OB, welcome to the real world, and I’m glad that your eyes have been opened. BTW, it really doesn’t get a whole lot better 🙁

  3. Oh boy, another one of these bitches. I’m so over the whole race thing.
“even computers are rasist ffs.” where’d you hear about that??

I’ve been in groups where someone says something racist … everyone laughs and I sit there like … wait a sec. that was racist. I always notice, but what can you do. I just walk on op, do pa dee doo pa doo la la la.
When things happen a person in a minority group cannot help but at some point think of the race issue. It may not be the first conclusion they reach but they will question. That stems from the tension they feel about their race in other instances. Now, like every race has bum holes, this person was probably too ready to voice their opinion and cry racism, but I tend to just ignore those few.

I once saw a lady turn up her nose, clutch her child’s hand and turn the other way because a pregnant black female (albeit a little rough around the edges) was walking her way. You (if in the majority) probably wouldn’t see it as racist, or even notice it at all, but once you’ve been made aware, you never miss it.
    … but that’s a whole other bitch.

I dunno op, it is what it is.

  4. haha I knew it ^^

I can see the point that some times people go overboard and call out racism where its not warranted but I’ve seen first hand alot of racist bullshit over the years and I’m not afraid to call someone out when they’re clearly being an idiot to me or anyone I care about. The rest of the time I just ignore it or silently hate the person with a smile on my face.

  5. “the only real racist, is the one calling racist. fuck these people just wanna make me go out and start getting nooses ready.”

Oh boy … Your (potential) panty privileges have been revoked!Lol. If that’s how you feel about “these people”, I don’t think you’d like me very much in real life.

  6. Oscar: Both my parents were born in Mexico, and they moved to the United States a year before I was born, so I grew up in the United States… my parents were Mexican.
Michael: Wow, that is a great story. That’s the American dream right there, right? Um, let me ask you, is there a term besides ‘Mexican’ that you prefer? Something less offensive?

  7. Beautiful ZedMan & Johnno. Made my morning (That’s what she said) >: )

I hear that one of the cross-burners has just been appointed Usher of the Black Rod. Not in the Senate, of course. Mostly just in the showers and laundry room.

  8. I like the ladies at a local mall screaming racism because there were no black history month cards, then threatening my wife over it because she obviously was racist lol. Never heard my wife ever say anything remotely offensive to another person of different ethnicity. Then again as far as I know only white people are capable of racism

  9. Constructivist or Essentialist? That is the question!

I see that we have another occasion requiring my philosophical acumen which, of course, I offer freely as is my wont. Three interlocking questions emerge from “For the Racists” since the answer to each will determine the answer to the others. These are: 1. What is to be understood by the concept of “race?”; 2. What is to be understood by the concept “racist?”; (3) What is a racist “act?”

    (1) Let’s start with a little “ordinary language philosophy” and go to the dictionary. According to The Concise Oxford Dictionary “race” in its relevant sense (we’re not talking about the 100 yeard dash here) is defined as those qualities distinguished by “distinct ethnical stock (the Caucasian, Mongolian, etc.).” But then the question arises as to the ontological status of “Caucasian, Mongolian, etc.” For the realist these terms denote objective differences in the world while for the constructivist such terms are little more than social constructs having no real-world denotation. But what role does the realist-constructivist distinction play in the question of race and racists?

    (2) The constructivist generally, escapes the racist charge since he maintains that race is nothing more than a social convention which can be altered as time goes by. For the realist, however, things are more difficult since he claims that race is not simply a social convention but a real-world phenomenon. But does this necessarily make the realist a racist? This requires some conception as to how the racist is to be conceived.

    (3) Being a racist demands that one ACT on one’s racial views whether by word or deed and so there is no necessary connection between simply holding a philosophically realist position and racism. But the question then arises as to what is to be understood by “an act.” Must such an act involve burning crosses on peoples’ lawns or, for example, can such an act consist of secretly harbouring the view that there are genetic differences among the races which rank them hierarchically but without acting on that view whether by word or deed? In other words, can one be a closet racist?

This question, of course, then raises the distinction between morality and the law. The closet racist offends against the former but not the latter. Is he therefore nontheless equally guilty of racism? I leave this question for your further reflection. I think that we have made good progress.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  10. Montrealman…. your assessment merely points to a debate of a different kind. Can one be considered guilty by virtue of their thoughts just as equally as for his actions? Nonetheless I think the point at the center of this stupid bitch is that OP is calling out someone who throws around the word “racist” at his convenience, with no real regard for what it really is to be racist.

Many have alluded to it in the preceding comments…. the very essence of the word’s definition has been altered in recent times reaching two different ends of the spectrum. On one hand you have a definition that has been caused by extreme racism in history and is milked by many spawning the idea of the virtual “racism-card”. While the definition has been frayed a little its essence still very much ties back to how I would imagine the connotation behind the term “racism” was primitively defined.

On the other hand we have a very loose definition of racism as has been developed and nurtured (mainly) by today’s comedians, namely guys like Chris Rock and Russell Peters. We all remember, as children, experiencing the perennial “Big Bang”, if you will, behind the evolution of such concepts. The idea of taking the characteristics of what made one race different from ours and turning them into something humorous has evolved so much that now people get paid to do so. First the race jokes (we’ve all heard them/told them) and then the stand-up routines by those making light of their own race. Finally, and today, stand-up routines by people not only making fun of their own race, but all OTHER races. Only it’s “OK” because he is of an oppressed race making fun of ALL races, either oppressors or oppresses.

So tell me…. is one who merely thinks racial thoughts WITHOUT acting upon them just as guilty as one who openly and invitingly expresses the very same thoughts, only to audiences of millions? And just what, pray tell, is the modern-day definition of racism taking all this into consideration?

  11. so they’re just cashing in on the racist demographic for monetary gain…
    that’s an interesting spin.

what if they made up the jokes, and tell the jokes, but don’t really believe them?
ie, is it really the belief one holds, the action one performs, or does it have to be both?

  12. Good point z…. but then again, is not the mule just as guilty in the scheme of distributing illegal narcotics as the manufacturer and the consumer, even if they do not partake in the actual use of it?

  13. I don’t seriously think any minority is going to cry racism for no reason.

And I also think most people aren’t racist.

There are of course the exceptions on both sides, assholes in general, but those people I think aren’t very common. I’m optimistic.

Thus I think most of these instances OP is referring to are actually just simple misunderstandings.

People misunderstand each other and thus get angry at each other constantly over everything else, why wouldn’t it spill over into race issues. It’s a big deal, it’s on our collective minds.

Lets all just chill out and assume ignorance over malevolence on both sides. At least until we know for sure otherwise.

I’m just waiting for the day space aliens show up and unite the entire human race in battle against them. It’s going to be sweet.

  14. donk2, you seem to have misunderstood the thing that i was trying to point out. by someone yelling racism, against another person, or group, should that not be called racist attitude.
being on the light side of things, i very well understand some of the problems that non lights go thru. be they slurs or even that fucking idiot cross burning shit.
and why would you and i not like each other, are you so totally non human, non organic, or non enity? color or race doesn’t bother me in the very least, just the ones who say stupid shit about how they are discriminated against, for no reason. people who shout racist at another person, should have damn good reason to do so, or they fall on deaf ears and eyes, when the real instance arises.
am i a racist, no,really? i don’t give two fucks what you are, who you are, or your race, or color of your hide. if you can look at me and say hi, i will say hi back, all without thinking that gee, that ? person just spoke to me.
a person is what and who they are, good or bad, and as such, has to be taken at face value, so to speak. ivan deals in books, if he gets one he never heard of, how can he tell what’s inside, there are a few cover words, to say this and that, but not the complete thing. otherwise, who would bother to buy the book, if every detail is on the outside?
people say shit in the wrong context all the time, and don’t realize it might piss off some, too bad if the other party can’t take it i guess. we are all guilty of this thing called being human. if we did not make mistakes in life, how would we ever learn from it. my point still stands, that only a racist, would call someone else a racist. to get a good feeling oneself, one has to feel good to others.

  15. I see what you’re saying. I do agree that automatically calling someone else a racist with no proof is wrong, and the people doing so probably hold some racist beliefs themselves.

I dunno man, the whole noose thing just totally put me off. I’m not saying you’re racist (’cause I’ve never met you) but even just making that comment really hit a nerve.

  16. There’s so much crazy nonsense in there, it’s hard to know where to begin, but let’s just pluck out this little nugget:

“only a racist, would call someone else a racist”

Huh? So if I belong to a marginalized ethnic group, and someone discriminates against me on the basis of my race, and I call them a racist, that means I’m a racist? GTFO

  17. Donk: You’re right to be put off. As far as I’m concerned, anyone who makes a crack about nooses in a discussion of race issues succeeds only in making any of his further opinion null and void.

  18. ==I hear that one of the cross-burners has just been appointed Usher of the Black Rod. Not in the Senate, of course. Mostly just in the showers and laundry room.==

I laughed when I saw the photo of the two cross burner boys. They look like rap fans.

And I laughed out loud for Ushers of The Black etc.

For Montrealman- since for one to be gay they must only feel the attraction, not act on it(I was heterosexual before I kissed my first girl etc), someone, in my opinion, may certainly be a racist without “acting on it”, if I define acting on it as using slang terms, denying work to, or chasing/bashing the minority in question.

How are the whippets these days?

  19. the racist tool is very effective.. look at what Israel gets away with by the mere mention of anti-semitism

  20. Think I’ll give the shit a little stir 😉

Doesn’t smething have to be true/fairly common, for it to be a suscessful joke? Irony & satire included. Think Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop.

  21. Yes martym, excellent point! But what I often see is a reluctance to accept both sides of this.. People get defensive and say oh oh but they do it too, they do it too! Help I’m being discriminated against as well! An inability to accept it without having to retort. It’s like in a film, you in your smartest business suit hugging a poor, battered and broken friend and saying “I’m incredibly sorry for hurting you” freezing the frame while you’re still hugging and the saying to the audience “but this bitch does it too me too!” What kind of amends is that?

Me0w, I dunno ’bout you but I’m fed up.

  22. An anecdote: A few years ago Jesse Jackson, the black civil rights activist, was being questioned by reporters about his position on the issue of white professors teaching courses in Black Studies. Jackson was against it, saying consciousness was racially-determined and so whites simply couldn’t teach a course in Black Studies. They did not have a “black consciousness.” One of the reporters asked, “Does that mean that blacks can’t teach Shakespeare?” Jackson was not pleased. Was Jackson a racist?

Another anecdote: In 1994 Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray published “The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life.” It raised hell and not just in the academic commnity. They concluded, on the basis of culturally-neutral IQ tests, that blacks scored, on average, 10 points lower than whites. However, they also found that orientals scored eight points HIGHER than whites. Were Herrnstein and Murray racists?

Another anecdote: “Race theory” is a booming part of the current academic scene. Part of that scene is occupied by the proponents of “Critical Race Theory,” black academics who maintain that consciousness is racially saturated. White oppression has created such black consciousness. From birth, blacks must forever pay the “black tax,” the internal consciousness of who, and what, they are. Are Criical Race Theorists racist?

A final anecdote: “Whiteness Theory,” another currently popular academic pursuit (particularly in the U.S.) might be seen as the white counterpart of Critical Race Theory but with a difference. The baseline is simple: All whites are guilty of racist oppression even if they have never uttered a single racist word or even entertained a single racist thought. Whites comprehend the world through a “white window” of which they are unaware. Only by virtue of classes devoted to rigorous consciousness-raising can whites transcend and throw off their “whiteness.” In spite of such efforts, are Whiteness Theorists themselves to be considered racist?

I think an answer to the dilemma lies, as you might expect, in philosophical reflection. It goes back to my initial distinction between the “essentialist” (or realist) and “constructivist” philosophical perspectives. I know you’re anxious to find out what it is, but you must wait until the next time.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  23. 1. Jesse Jackson is, indeed, a racist. If not for that incident, then for several others.

    2. Yes. Such studies are irrelevant, scientifically flawed and should have been left behind in the Victorian era.

    3. At times flawed or problematic, perhaps, but I don’t think inherently racist.

    4. I think you’re misrepresenting the concepts of “Whiteness Theory” just a tad. The baseline is not: “All whites are guilty of oppression” but rather, “All whites have enjoyed the privilege of their whiteness, ie. institutionalized racism, and many do not recognize their privilege, which makes it difficult to address and remove racial inequalities in our society”.

Honestly though, I’m with you, Donk. Any real effort in this thread is wasted. My thoughts on most of the responses here, like many of the other threads that discuss oppression or inequality on LTWWB, pretty much boil down to this:

    http://www.derailingfordummies.com/

  24. I like when people call me and my co-workers racist when we catch them shoplifting. Oh wait, no I don’t.

  25. Jesse Jackson is the fucking man. Until any other activist/politician/public figure reads Green Eggs & Ham on national TV he’ll be the man. And that whole dilemma with the Zionists where Farakhan had his back; amazing.

And The Bell Curve was a joke.

  26. montrealman, wow. Write like that some more, I much perfer it, really.

Lolz, “Jessie” was walking the streets of Washington one evening, when he heard footsteps following him, of course he became a litte afraid thinking he was about to be mugged. But he was greatly relieved when he turned around, and saw that it was a white man behind him. Is Jessie a bigot? Yep.

“The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life.” is that the paper that Dr. Suzuki said was bullshit? Racist or incompetent? How about both.

The Whitenes theory? They had their heads up their collective ass, not racist, just apologist fucktards.

  27. Lets face it, the Reverend Jesse was the only man in America who could get away with expressing his desire to “pull Obama’s nuts off”. If Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity or Limbaugh had said it, we’d still be hearing from activists and academics waxing flatulent about “White Amerika’s fear of the potency of a powerful, articulate Black Man and it’s racist need to emasculate, both actually and literally >; )”
Then there was that whole Hymietown escapade. Looney Farrakhan had his back on that one, too as I recall. I forget, was that explained away as “the work of an overzealous assistant”, “taken out of context” or “further evidence of control of the media by a certain group of chosen people”.

  28. I’m with you there. Jackson’s appalling attitudes and his underwhelming response left me cold at the time and still does. I’m amazed that anyone solicits his opinions after that.

  29. … “Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity” That group of people, ugh. O’Riley is the most ridiculous piece of shit on tv today. I can’t stand him. Jackson, that’s a whole other stupid story, but we did hear about it Ivan. Well I certainly did. All over the View, Dr.Phil, O’Riley etc etc.
I dunno if any of you all have watched Jane Elliott’s videos, but maybe you should …

  30. I saw clips of an Israeli Rabbi talking about Kofi Annan and actually referred to him as a ‘monkey’. The exact words used by the rabbi were, “‘Kofi’ is Hebrew for ‘monkey’.”

But that wouldn’t be racist to some. And if you did say it was racist you’d be an anti-Semite.

  31. “I don’t seriously think any minority is going to cry racism for no reason.”

Haven’t heard of the race card? There are some jerkoffs that will cry racism whenever they don’t get their way, or are paranoid that every slight against them is a conspiracy.

“And if you did say it was racist you’d be an anti-Semite.”

Israelis are allowed to be racist, ethnically cleanse areas, bulldoze houses, burn down orchards, shoot at fishing boats, etc. because their relatives may have been in the holocaust. I bet some of the holocaust victims would be spinning in their graves if they heard what the Israeli government condones.

  32. There are books written by Jews and Israelis claiming that most of the modern Israelis are not even genetically descended from Shem and Abraham, but instead are the descendents of converts. But that’s all a conspiracy theory, anti-Semitism, and the books are written by self-loathing Hebrews.

  33. you all know what? think of me any way you want to, i know who i am, what i am, and where i’m going.
if some people want to keep their heads stuck up their fucking asses and get offended by a word or two, that someone says on here, then i think you should not be on here.
with that being said, i bid you good byw, because i guess your poor little egos can’t handle a word or any critisms. so you can either put up with it, or go to hell. either way, i don’t give a fuck anymore.
seb gets called faggot, fruit , queer, and any other host of names. but don’t he say much about being discriminated against, no he doesn’t. how about the catholics, i heard a lot of anti shit about them here too, are they all up in fucking arms over this today, no, haven’t seen or heard it yet.
so, with that, i say a big fuck you to those that can’t take any sarcasm, a joke, or even a little heat on a religion, race, or other ethic disability. and oh yes, the disabled, there is another area, that is taboo, but i don’t dis them either, do i, why is that? kiss the old life sucks goodbye, and welcome the monster that has just been created.

  34. Not taboo at my place. We tend to stop before it gets truly demeaning or deliberately hurtful though. Otherwise, let er rip, Suckie.

  35. Lifer my friend, Fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke. The folks here that know you and enjoy your bitchery know this. Underneath the blunderbuss of vitriol and horndog antics is a very solid, very sincere sense of right and wrong that cannot be quantified by bullshit academics or forced into a PC straightjacket. You are neither a bully, nor a racist and those who dismiss what you have to say because of the way you say it are missing a lot.
@NGF – calling anyone a monkey is just bad manners; calling a black man a monkey can in no way be taken out of context. Your rabbi is indeed a racist, just like Looney Farrakhan when he describes whites as “not yet fully evolved human beings.”

  36. sodeypop you might try to read an entire comment before you respond to it. Or at least more than one sentence in.

“I don’t seriously think any minority is going to cry racism for no reason. And I also think most people aren’t racist. There are of course the exceptions on both sides, assholes in general, but those people I think aren’t very common. I’m optimistic.”

  37. LS, if it that wasn’t direct at me, carry on … nothing to see here.

If it was directed at me, I have never called Sebastian a faggot, and honestly find the whole seb hating thing distasteful … but he usually doesn’t shine brightly either. I also don’t tend to comment on religious things because frankly I’m undecided.
LS I think that there are some things are just not funny. It’s like making a sarcastic oven comment to a Jewish person. Would I ever do that? Absolutely not! In any context.

  38. Donk’s totally on point on this one. Making comments about the brutal oppression and violent persecution of a people isn’t funny, no matter what the context. Neither is calling Sebastian a fag. I don’t care for him either, but hurling those kinds of slurs demeans all gay people, and why would you want to participate in perpetuating that kind of intolerance? If you don’t like a person, that’s fine, but resorting to schoolyard taunts and making purposefully inflammatory remarks only shows that you have the argumentative capabilities of a fifth-grader. Asking people to not use hate speech against each other isn’t trying to put them in a “PC straightjacket”, as Ivan infers, it’s simply expecting them to maintain a reasonable level of human decency towards each other. The whole “it’s just words” argument is fucking ridiculous. You, a person of privilege, do not get to tell a marginalized group of people that they’re not allowed to be offended by words that have a long history of use in the context of their oppression. It’s like me spitting in your face and then telling you shouldn’t be upset because it’s just water. Is a modicum of respect for your fellow human beings just too much to bloody well ask for???

  39. like i said before, who really gives a shit anymore about what people may think. if you don’t like what is printed, then you are happy to fucking just move along.

too mant whiney fucking people are too sensitive over words. well fuck me, words are going to be around forever. if you don’t like them, well that is your problems. if a word offends you or hurts you, then everyone has to tiptoe around the rest of their lives, making sure not to offend anyone, pure fucking bullshit.
the n word for example, a little over used by the black folks, and looked upon with distain by those non blacks that use it, pure double standard bull fucking shit. if one group can’t use it, then no one should be able to. nooses, they are good for hanging, all fucking colors, why would anyone think that a particular group was being singled out, are you that fucking insecure.
as to the rest of those holier than thou folks that inhabit this forum, get a fucking life. there was no reffernce made to any one person or group by me. but if i did, then that would be bigotry, racist, or just plain ignorance, of which i am neither, or any of. but it seems plain to me now, that thse people i thought were bigger than some things, are really not at all.
so, think how you wish, twist my words how you wish, and pound sand. i now know what the op. is saying. and all this time, i thought that i was the ONLY ASSHOLE on this site. how fucking wrong i was and still am. a big fuck you to all those that get bent out of shape, by YOUR misconstuing a person’s words, it’s your ignorance and stupid, that make racism what it is today. is it alive and well in n.s., yes it is, all thanks to those that cry it, first chance they have, and believe that every word spoken, written or whatever, is directed at thenm. so once again, fuck you all concerned. and i will not bother to talk to you again, and will be the biggest jerk i can be, thanks again, for the creation you have made. you made me see the light finally.

  40. Whatever. I refer you to one of my favourite excerpts from Derailing for Dummies:

“As a Privileged Person®, it is natural that you would feel excluded and frustrated by the recent spate of Marginalised People “reclaiming” historically negative words to refer to themselves.
Not only do these Marginalised People™ kick up a great big ole stink by making it “politically incorrect” for Privileged People® to use these words – even going so far as to have some of them defined under ‘hate crime’ legislation! – they take the insult one step further and use them freely amongst themselves!

This is very perplexing and annoying for Privileged People®, who can only stand on the outside, gazing wistfully in, wishing it were a simpler time when it was totally okay for everyone to call women whores, Mexicans spics, Trans people trannies, gay men faggots and people of African descent the n-word.

After all, who do those Marginalised People™ think they are, taking ownership of language traditionally used to oppress them! That just isn’t playing fair!

But take heart, because there is a way you can worm around this one – where there’s Privilege®, there’s always a way!

First of all, you must feign utter cluelessness about the ins & outs of reclaimation and behave as though you were under the impression that in these ‘post race/sex/sexuality/gender/etc times’ that we had all evolved into a new era where ‘words don’t mean anything’ and it’s totally okay for everyone to use offensive slurs and then… well: use them.

When a Marginalised Person™ calls you out on it, become indignant. Express confusion. Demand an explanation. Say that you just don’t understand – if you people use those words to refer to each other, why can’t I?!

You see, you’re implying that they’re being hypocritical. That if they are going to use abusive & oppressionist language aongst each other, they simply have to accept that they’re employing a ‘double standard’ by preventing the Privileged® from using them.

What this enables you to ignore is the reality of the power dynamic involved. Language reclaimation is a means by which Marginalised People™ gain back some power they are traditionally denied by taking control of words used to demean and discriminate against them. When these words come from Privileged People®, there is a long and very serious negative history behind them that cannot be divorced from the words themselves. Thus, when Privileged People® employ these words, they are perpetuating that history and the psychology behind the word. They are exercising oppressive power that have become inherent to those words – a power Marginalised People™ seek to subvert and dismantle when they use them.

Pretend not to understand this. Just continue to imply hypocrisy and pout that it isn’t fair.

It also ignores the fact that, from within Marginalised Groups™, discourses around abusive language are actually not simple and there are many divided and varied opinions on the subject. Treating Marginalised People™ like a hive mind is always a great way to further subtly insult them and since the point of this entire debacle is to come out with as many notches on your belt as possible, you want to make sure you slip in as many knocks below their belt as you can manage.

  41. Great post, Meow.
Someone I dated last year suggested that by using the words cripple and gimp to describe myself I was diminishing myself to others. She remembered me using the word gimp in an early phone call and that it made me appear bitter and threw up a wall that many people would do nothing to see past.
Nothing to do with being PC, to me it has to do with not using words that are hurtful.
    Again this is my opinion.

  42. and my opinion is still that if you can’t take any heat, get the fuck away from the source then. people pussyfoot around others, why, because they are so afraid of saying something to offend the other person. well fuck me, if you want offence, then i take offence at asll the shit that passes as music today, about the loud little shit box cars, about all the so called intellectuals, who are dumber than fucking rocks, about anything that derides my race, about any slurs or words spoken by someone not of that same race. and about the tones of this bitch, in general. there, shove that in your collective tight minded little bigoted racist asses. yeah, i know what i just wrote.
and also, some of you can be so anal, that it just makes me puke. so have at it and a big fuck you, to all those that think they are better than the next person, you fucking welll are not. anyway, your closed mindedness will never let you see the truth for what it is, self taught.

  43. “…everyone has to tiptoe around the rest of their lives” well fuck me! Why, tell me why would you ever need to mention nooses, especially in a argument like this when race has already been mentioned. Like you don’t even know how much it hurts.

“they are good for hanging, all fucking colors, why would anyone think that a particular group was being singled out, are you that fucking insecure.” are you kidding me with this. Are you serious? Who the fuck else is that supposed to refer to? Do NOT tell me that, oh you were imagining that nice (and I’m going to say it) lady of your skin tone down the street swinging from a noose. Then again you can say yeah, after the fact. You can say yes, that’s what I meant. Ohhh puh-lease.

You really disappointed me … but that doesn’t matter right. Who am I right. I must say your deflect skill is super strong. LS used deflect! (pokemon reference I expect no one, except maybe Brendon, to get, lol)

For the record no one is calling you a racist. I do not believe you are, but you said something inflammatory and REFUSE to acknowledge it. I wonder if you even read what we’re writing. You’re trying to dress it up as something it isn’t and we ALL know that. Even if it’s few speaking about it. I find me0w quite well spoken, and she’s not trying to attack you either.

“… shove that in your collective tight minded little bigoted racist asses” nah man that’s some other level nonsense. We’re being anal about it because it’s saddening and we can’t just “let it go”

Also for use of the n-word; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MnmmDiQSdA

Whatever, man, you’re still a fun dude, don’t change … too much.
    Live long and prosper!

  44. this will be my last post on this. as i said, if antone, and i mean anyone, has a skin so thin, as to be affected by what one says, then that one, should not be here. or anywhere else, for that matter. whether they be black, blue, orange or green, if you are going to get offended by a simple thing like words, then there is no hope for you as a person, or even a race, on this fucking earth.
yeah, i said tiptoeing around other people, afraid to open your mouth, for fear of saying something ot politically correct. i thought this country had a thing called free speech, and freedom of expression, but i guess that only applies to certain chosed people, as meow puts it. not everyone. i and others before me, did not put our lives on the lines, just so that a few select groups, could say something, and the rest of the population had to hold their tongues, or carefully watch what they said.
fuck you, who think that one group of people use a word, relegated to hidden rooms, and comics, that should not be spoken by everyone. and about nooses, they can be used on everyone, that has a fucking neck.why would one group, or lone person, think they were being singled out. is it because that lone person wants to draw attention to themself, or just want to stir the pot a bit, by crying racism?
i don’t give a fuck what color skin a person has, if i say i’d like to blow your fucking brains out.i don’t care what color skin you have, if i say that i would love to fuck your brains out.i don’t even care if you are a fucking martian, if you get in my face, and i punch fuck out of you. you are still people, and as such, learn to live without the feeling of guilt, insecurity, and bigotry, that seems to be festering here, and everywhere else lately. if i told ivan, he was an asshole, what would that say, is he white, black, green, or multi hued? i would say it because he was an asshole, he isn’t, but used him as example.until the thin skin, cry babies learn that this world is filled with those that eiher don’t care, are nitwits, or just brain dead, understand, that they are not alone. then there is no hope for them
so, where does racism start, it starts with the one, crying racist, and racism, not with me. but that’s okay, twist my words and others to how you would like them to sound to you, and get others to believe that also. til you fucking people get with the times, and educate yourself on today’s humanity, then i won’t bother to post again. and for that, i say, fuck you, and choke on a dick, white, black, green, or any color you want.

  45. Today’s News Bulletin:

“Old White Guy Denies Reality of Marginalized Persons, Insists They Are ‘Too Sensitive'” (The interesting hypocrisy in this one, friends, is that while denying the ability of words to offend and hurt people, it would appear he has, himself, been offended by the words spoken to him by others. At least, that’s what his expletive and comma laden replies would seem to indicate.)

In other news, “Hosni Mubarak Finally Steps the Fuck Down Yesterday, Serious Celebratory Drinking Ensues At My House”

And, in shocking turn of events, “Montrealman Makes A Post That Is Both Short And Mildly Amusing. The Universe Considers Imploding”

Those are our top stories, folks. It’s a beautiful snowy Saturday morning out there – I’d go out and make a snow angel, but I’m an atheist. Now over to Joan with the weather.

  46. LS. In town today?

The origins of racism? Hmmm, I’ve never though on the actual beginings. I’l have to do some rading and brush up on my anthropology.

Go for it, mm. In your new, concise style, please.

  47. Racism is alive & well in Halifax….just look at our wonder-‘full of shit’ Fire Dept.
They’re scrapping their candidate process….Because ITS TOO WHITE !

    OH
    OH
AM I about to be subject to a internet court case & have my name brought out & sued !?!?!?
Like I give a fucking shit for telling the TRUTH !

  48. It is my understanding that racism’s roots lie in antisemitism, particularly in medieval times. But, I wouldn’t go so far as to say religion was the cause. It was a means, yes, but not the cause. Such things as fear, resentment and/or ambition (power/riches/status) would be more the cause, I would think.

  49. Oh, just fucking lovely.

So much for being allowed to hire the best.
Let’s lower the bar some more. Surgeons, pilots, nuclear physicist? yep, yep and yep.
What ever happened to hiring by ability?

  50. Clearing Away The Philosophical Underbrush.

I think that the recent heated exchanges on racism point up the importance of a cool, rational approach to the topic, that is, a philosophical approach. People (or at least some people) think that philosophy is an irrelevant, ivory-tower exercise having no bearing on the issues of daily life – see, for example Ivan’s reference (Feb. 11, 9:36AM) to it as “academic bullshit.” I would argue, on the contrary, it is our only possible hope when confronted by issues like racism. Philosophy may not provide a “silver bullet” by way of resolving the question but at least we can get clearer as to what is at issue. If nothing else, it is rational and not simply emotional. However, before directly engaging the issue, I would like to do a little clearing away of the philosophical underbrush. Specifically, I would like to take up MeOw’s comments (Feb. 10, 5:50PM) which, in addition to her language use, I consider the most reflective of the lot. She takes up the four “anecdotes” I mentioned in my last post.

In response to the issue of Jesse Jackson being racist MeOw stated that he is, but not necessarily for that incident but for others. She didn’t say what these “other incidents” might be but in my view anyone who defines people’s consciousness on the basis of race IS a racist. In fact, it is for me anyway the defining characteristic of a racist. The question is, why wouldn’t MeOw think that he was a racist on the basis of the anecdote?

In response to the Herrnstein & Murray anecdote MeOw claimed that such studies were “irrelevant, scientifically flawed, and should have been left behind in Victorian times.” Unfortunatelt she did not substantiate her charges. To do so MeOw must show HOW the study was irrelevant and scientifically flawed. Perhaps she thinks that IQ scores are irrelevant and scientifically flawed. She could be right, but it would be nice to hear why.

On the issue of Critical Race Theory MeOw states that while it might be “at times flawed or problematic,” it is not “inherently racist.” But why not? Like Jesse Jackson, Critical Race Theory defines people’s consciousness as racially determined. Why is this not “inherently racist?”

Finally, MeOw states that I got Whiteness Theory a tad wrong. She could be right. However, for Whiteness Theorists such as Barbara Applebaum of Syracuse University with whom I crossed swords in “Educational Theory” (Vol. 54, No, 1, 2004) the claim is more than that whites are just unaware of their privileges vis-a-vis blacks. The claim of whiteness theorists is indistinguishable from that of Jackson and the Critical Race Theorists i.e., that their whiteness constitutes their consciousness and so, for me at least, they are racists.

Anyway, MeOw, thanks for the comments. I would be interested in hearing your response to those above if you are interested.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!
