FFS people!!!! I understand the new law of 30km/h in the regular 50km/h school zones, I get it…..BUT……the sign clearly clearly states “30km/h WHEN children are present” !!! Why the fuck are you going 30km if there is no children walking, playing or in sight what so ever ??!!! Just drive 50km until you see a child, faaack. — 30 km/h in a 50 km/h !!!!

I guess I misunderstood the law, I thought it was when school was in session, say from 8:30 to 3 or whatever the times are now Monday to Friday, not just whether their were children about. Anyone know for sure?
I think the speed limit should be a lot higher in the zones of schools that fall below the national average.
I think the law states that it is during the times children would be attending school, and that could mean after 3:30pm if there are extracurricular events. I think the law is so vague that if you were driving in a school zone on the weekend, and children were present, the police could still nail you for it. I will go 50 kph after 5:00pm if I don’t see children, then 30 kph any other time. Not worth the risk 🙁 Dunbrack to NW Arm is horrible in the mornings. I’m doing 30, as the law says I have to, and all these other idiots are just breezing by. No cops in sight! I’d love to see some of the drivers get nailed here! Then again…on the one day I’d be barely over, it would be me to get caught. Ya just can’t win!
The rule is not only for when you actually see a child the intent is that when they are present (in school) the drivers reduce their speed to 30kms because children are unpredictable! If you only reduce your speed when you see a child you’re going to be too late and hit them. Do you really think they would make a law that you have to see the child and THEN reduce your speed? NO they want drivers to take caution and drive slowly while students are attending school so they don’t chance getting hit.Common Sense folks!
ok we’ll get a speeding ticket to make YOU happy. not. slowdowm and live a’hole. i know you’re oh so important but you are not above the law. i’ll meet a’holes like you at the next red light. gee you really made time there didn’t you. trade that car in for a trycycle you big immature invincible KID.
i volunteer Op for the next meteor strike landing zone.
such stupidity and thoughtlessness should not breed.
The law does not apply for the times when the children are actually physically IN the school, as some of you are suggesting.
“Effective September 1, to help make school zones safer, the speed limit is being reduced to 30 km/h in areas where the approaching limit is 50 km/h, when children are present. Where the speed limit is higher than 50 km/h, drivers will continue to be required to reduce speed to a maximum of 50 km/h when children are present.
The reduced speed limit applies at all times when children are present in the school area . Children present is defined as being (i) on the highway in the school area , or (ii) outdoors, within 30 metres of the highway, in the school area. This reduced speed limit will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year when children are present in the school area.”

FFS, it’s three blocks!
Wasting valuable seconds!!!!!
Don’t they know who the fuck you are?
thanks for the link, avast. 24/7, if kids are within 30 metres of the road, that would essentially mean at all times, because how could you KNOW there is no kid within 30 metres. you couldn’t see around corners, esp at night! haha
really, it’s not about the traffic laws, or other drivers, or anything. assholes like this would be grinding their teeth in impotent rage and frustration on the bloody autobahn. it’s an internal thing.
op, take up hang-gliding wearing an anvil. you are too miserable to live.
lol.. all of a sudden I have an image of Wile E. Coyote trying to drop an Acme anvil on the Road Runner.

just noticed all the !!!! in the posting. someone needs more than just their happy meal.
Ob if that bothers you , you’d best stay away from the 102 !
THere are assholes, who haven’t got a clue when it comes to the law of emergency vehicles with lights flashing pulled over on the shoulder …. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PULL OUT IN THE PASSING LANE & THEN SLAM YER FUCKIN’ BRAKES ON & SLOW TO 60 KMS AN HOUR ! ! ! !
I do not know where these assholes were given that information …but before a multi vehicle catastrophic collision happens …They need to be educated on how to deal with such a simple action, simply stay at the posted speed & pull out into the outside lane & go by the emergency vehicle …simple & safe, as well as so easy .
smile&wave i assumed that too. I was wrong but i assumed that to err on the side of caution because i didn’t want to get a ticket. And people like op were not enough to intimidate me into risking a ticket either.
OP my guess is you have rage issues when you drive. Nobody is going to pander to your anger problem at the risk of having some sort of run in with the law. Their money and time and privilege to drive means more to them than you do.
Speed Over Limit Total Fine Penalty Points
1-15 km/h $ 340.21 2
16-30 km/h $ 455.21 3
31 km/h or more $ 685.21 4
I don’t know how rich the rest of you are, but I would rather add 10 seconds on to my commute than pay $685.21 out of my bank account. So suck it up because I am going to be slowing down whether I can see kids at the school or not.
I guess I should add that I don’t always slow down. Like on my way to work at 5 am or if I drive in a school zone after 10 PM. But if it is at a time of day when you could reasonably expect a child to be present (weekends and after school hours included) I will slow down.
More….where the fuck do you get your info? The law states 60k and pull into the outside lane. It’s idiots like you that don’t know that will cause accidents!
