I am tired of seeing all these status updates on my facebook from friends claiming to have “terrible colds”, followed by descriptions of “fever, can’t breathe, etc”. Sorry people, a “bad cold” is usually the flu, and it is most likely H1N1, that’s all that’s going around right now that fits that bill.
Why do people continue to insist that it’s just a cold? Anybody else noticing this? It worries me knowing that these people will write it off as a cold and then not stay home to avoid spreading it.

true dat. i’ve had el swino for 6 FUCKING DAYS.
if we get it, we get it,holy shit,i don’t need updates every 5 fucking minutes either. i got a flu shot the other day, and it worked really well. i got the fucking regular flu the next day, son of a fucking bitch.
I think you’re too concerned with fb status updates…relax you’ll likely be fine
They can’t be feeling that fucking bad if they’re circlejerking over Facebook.
People feel better when they complain. People feel better when they feel they’re being heard. Why not stroke your friends better? Maybe you need better friends? Maybe they do.
There is a nasty cold going around right now, but it’s definitely different than H1N1… i.e. no fever, etc. But it laid me out for 3 days.
I had both the cold and H1N1 over this past 2 weeks and neither are fun.
you’d think it was 2012 around here with all this fucking flu talk.
It’s the flu… deal with it… OR you could get out of your bubbles and build up some immunities so you don’t get sick all the damn time.
I don’t even know where this pandemic is, I don’t know a single person in the city who’s sick.
Do people realise that the Flu is significantly different than a cold?
With all the H1N1 craze goin around, there are bulletins everywhere. I know where I work there’s a list of symptons to go by so people can tell whether they have a cold, a flu, or H1N1.
It could be just a cold. I know I’ve got a bit of a cough, some sniffles, but NOTHING else… Except for enough NyQuil to knock out a horse.
When you’re so sore and feverish, and your cough is so bad you can’t get a moment’s sleep, you can’t do much else but hang out with the TV and the laptop. For a lot of folks, it means updating facebook. I updated mine with swine flu status because I wasn’t well enough to call my friends to tell them they need to ramp up their fluid intake and vitamin C because I may have been contagious around them.
Mistake #1 Joining Facebook.
zZz: you’re right, no one is building up any immunity to ANYTHING because they’re all slathering themselves with hand sanitizer.
I’ve used hand sanitizer like maybe 2 times this year and no word of lie I haven’t had so much as a cold since 2008. And I have a compromised immune system!
40 Vaccines before kids graduate from High School. Then we wonder why this shit keep mutating to shit even worse.
Well look what happened when the mumps “came back”….that sure was a shit show.
Many people in their 40s and 50s have had mumps and it was no big deal, but those of us who were “vaccinated” for it and only received one shot were FUCKED when an outbreak occured.
I think all the flu hype has more to do with world leaders needing SOMETHING to stimulate world economy. The learned of us go, “uh, 0.001% of the population is going to die from this flu and we’re going to what?”… vaccinate the affluent lest they take time off work. Traditionally a nice war would have such an effect on world economy but Bush played that card already.
Vaccines don’t make viruses mutate, they do that on their own. Vaccines keep viruses from mutating by giving them fewer hosts to replicate in. If a virus mutates and the vaccine is no longer effective, you just have to make another vaccine. It doesn’t work the same way as antibiotics and drug-resistant bacteria.
Miles, in another thread you explained quite well the possibilities of mutation and maybe I don’t fully understand it but one thing was very clear. A virus adapts to a changing environment and is subject to not only Darwinian outcomes but, even more likely, the law of averages. Why we continue to meddle with flu ‘environment’ (not-so-widespread vaccine) for a flu causing SUCH LOW death rates… well, I followed the money.
I fear WE are doing what our grandfathers did in polluting the planet. That is NOT thinking ahead, NOT considering the future implications of what we do on a broad scale and often. Admit it! All anybody cares about when it comes to the health of human beings is protecting themselves, their families and RIGHT NOW. Just like nobody said, uh, if we give DAILY synthetic estrogen supplements as birth control to virtually ALL the women of the civilized world, ie EARTH, could this have an overall affect on the EARTH’s water and the organisms that live in it AND the organisms who depend on them, ie HUMAN BEINGS? (see CBC’s Disappearing Male).
I just want to see the big picture. Don’t you? If we follow the money we can see quite well what mass production and distribution of flu vaccine has done for governments, citizens… and radio stations, news reporters, hotels who house conference attendees, restaurants who cater to them, cabs, janitors who work in the labs, garbage men who take away bio-waste from injection sites and did I mention vaccine as a commodity on a world wide market place suffering in-your-face-FIRST-on-tonight-news *gasp* vaccine shortages. If money makes the world go round THIS is how it’s done. Brilliant!
it is unlikely that one might catch H1N1 over facebook.
or facebook has caused H1N1.
i cant decide.
