Flower Pickers

The little children who are attending that daycare really must have been proud of all their hard work for planting those flowers, the tulips and the other flowers, they looked really nice. There aren’t many flowers in that area. I saw the destruction of the flowers yesterday as I walked by and I thought what a sin that someone ripped all the flowers off the stems – the little children pass by there each morning before they go inside they probably enjoyed looking at the flowers and I am sure probably felt sadness at seeing their flowers gone. There isn’t much lower than hurting a little child. And just the fact that it is a daycare. They are not hurting anybody. Why do people have to hurt them. The person picking the flowers may or may not have thought in depth about the fact that is is a front entrance to a daycare where those are planted and that the children might feel sad to see something of theirs destroyed – imagine a child who is sad to lose their toy, something that brought them joy – how are the flowers different – you may say well the flowers did not belong to the children personally but in fact they were there for the child’s enjoyment, and they did spend time planting them, so how is that different from something that brings them joy.God bless the daycare and everything they do for the community, from their outreach with seniors to the activities they do with the children. The teachers are wonderful and they work with the children one on one. It is a safe and happy environment. It is a child’s haven from the scary world outside that is falling apart around them. A world where thoughtless vandals will destroy a daycare’s flower bed right outside its windows.People would do well to donate money or other usuable goods to this daycare such as books and supplies. I’m sure they could use a nice television set or a new computer. Maybe some new curtains, flooring or windows. If I were well-to-do, this daycare and the George Dixon Centre would be at the TOP of my list to donate to because of the things they are doing to create a good child hood for children in the area.It always amazes me that wealthy people are able to donate $$ to things like “research for cancer” for a tax receipt, (don’t get me wrong, I have relatives that I lost to cancer and I understand the need for research but much of that money goes to corporations) when there are glaring holes in the fabric of their own communities that they could patch quite affordably, peoples lives they could touch immediately not years from now when a “cure” is discovered (how many more billions will it take…), but maybe they won’t get a tax receipt so they look the other way and pat themselves on the back for donating to the “cure”.
