I have read food reviews in this paper that I disagree with but after this week’s I could stay silent no longer. I visited “Leorge and Gito’s” despite warnings from friends about the food. I ordered the tortellini which was not nearly as tasty as the canned stuff they sell at the grocery store. First off the sauce tasted like it came straight from a can, no spices added, no flavour. It was evident that my dish had been sitting around ( WITH sauce on it) in the fridge for a while. The pasta on the outside was dried hard as a rock and the pasta in the centre was so soggy it fell apart. It was clear that the pasta itself was just over-heated in a microwave because the centre was ice cold while the “sauce” on the outside was baked onto the plate (which itself was hot enough to blister your fingers). My boyfriend ordered the chicken parm with spagetti. Let’s start with the chicken: obviously re-heated in a microwave or left over from the day before (or both) b/c it was too dry/tough to even chew. The spagetti noodles had been so overcooked they didn’t even hold together when picked up by the fork. I have had some bad meals in Halifax but this was BY FAR the worst.
Do not be fooled by the good review this week. This reviewer has no idea what she is talking about or what constitutes a delicious meal. It is really disappointing that people will support this sub-par business, the Pyramid was much better. Save your money and go grab a falafel.

I love posts like yours, OP. We leave way too much to reviewers to judge what’s good and what isn’t. This reviewer has little crediblity, IMHO – case in point – she squawked about Mexico Lindo’s food not being ‘authentic’ – a totally idiotic remark since the cook is from Mexico and all of her dishes are awesome. She probably thinks Mexicale Rosa’s is authentic and we all know that’s just a frozen food franchise that overprices their reheated swill. Makes one wonder if she would review a shit sandwich as an ‘earthy delight’. Thanks for your input – you probably saved a few people some hard-earned bucks.
Once Ms. Feltham declared KFC as the best fried chicken in the city I stopped believing a word she said. This review is no different.
‘Dirty Bird’ – the best chicken in the city???? She must have deep- fried her taste buds to make that comment.
Or maybe deep fried her brain cells.
I like Rogi Orazio for Pasta. And the decor is great. I’ll at least check out Leorge and Gito’s menu.
When did she claim KFC was the best fried chicken in Halifax? I would hazard a guess on the worst. Superstore and Sobeys are better. I haven’t had Mary Browns. My favorite in Halifax would be Broaster Chicken located at Caso Carlos (Formally La Hoya). It’s a Filipino/Spanish (Spanish as in Spain, not Latin) food restaurant that also has the Broaster Franchise. Its across from Split Crow, I suggest everyone gives Carlos a visit!
It was a couple of years ago I believe. I really couldn’t believe it. Also, thanks for the tip about Caso Carlos.I generally read the food reviews to find out about restaurants I’d consider checking out and usually disregard most of what the reviewer says. That’s not limited to Ms. Feltham either. Food reviews are fairly subjective to begin with. That being said I would likely disagree with Ms. Feltham at least 50% of the time and that’s being generous. Maggie the Monkey could spin a wheel and whatever random review appeared would be just as accurate as most of the reviews I’ve read here.
Oh, this was my favourite part of the review. Ms. Feltham writes:”… the spaghetti sauce has an undeniable tomato presence. The cook here is not afraid of flavour.”Wow, spag sauce with a heavy tomato presence … whoda thunk it?
I know Liz and as a person she’s great. On the other hand, she cannot produce a satisfactory grilled cheese. I think a rotating critic would be an excellent idea, her column, along with a lot of the content in the Coast got stale a long time ago.
Critics are critics, whether it’s movies or food, to each their own. No one held a gun to anyone’s head and told them they have to eat at a certain restaurant and watch a certain movie. It’s all opinions, but i’m glad the OP posted his, now we have 1 bad, 1 good, so back to 0 for that place. I didn’t even know it existed actually. I’m not too fond of the name myself!
