Why are the most used roads in this city the least maintained? Barrington Street; Monastery Lane (one of the worst! borderline fatal at times); parts of Coburg Road (some of it was fixed last year, thankfully); good luck not breaking a spoke on Spring Garden; Quinpool; parts of Robie; and list your own because I only bike some of the city, most of the time.
Seriously, I almost break my jaw on these roads, and the plow damage is always the worst on the shoulder, curbside, or the twelve inch width where bikers are allowed to bike. This city, its managers, and its priorities are fucking ridiculous, and while this isn’t a huge issue, it’s a safety issue and I’m sick of it.
So, city of Halifax, please paint some fucking lines on the road, and keep the roadways safe. It’s not safe to have to dodge huge potholes, veering into traffic at times, so I don’t jolt my system and break my fucking neck. Or endanger a motorist!
I’ll never understand why bike lanes are such an issue of contention for 80% of Council; I’LL BUY THE FUCKING PAINT FOR CHRISSAKE. —Just Wants to Bike Safely

Oh quit your whining and leave your little urban bubble. Roads in rural NS are 10x worse than the vast majority of roads in HRM. And I’m not talking just rural trunk roads, I’m talking 100 series highways.
I’m pretty sure my parents’ car is out of alignment after a day trip to the valley yesterday the roads were THAT FUCKING BAD.
And you’re bitching about painted lines? What painted lines? There ARE no painted lines on some of the roads i was on yesterday let alone bike lane paint.
Fucking urbanites. Leave your little HRM bubble one of these days OP! ffs.
Just cause the roads suck in the country doesn’t mean ours shouldn’t be fixed. You could always argue that it could be worse no matter what the argument is, I agree with OB our roads are fucking terrible, and I’m not a cyclist but I hear that it fucking sucks to be one in HRM. It’s a hard issue to tackle though when you can only work on the roads 4 months out of the year, we’ll never catch up, but it is a bad look when some of our busiest streets, Halifax landmarks like Barrington St are so poorly maintained.
Valid bitch imo.
Adding bike lanes isn’t necessarily as easy as just painting them on the road, dumbass.
some enterprising people(s) painted bike lanes on windsor st a few years back. they weren’t very straight but did the trick
Also, like Tommy said, there are only so many months out of the year where it’s possible to do roadwork and roads get damaged during the winter for various reasons. So please STFU until actually know what the fuck you’re talking about.
never thought i’d see the day when people DEFEND the city’s inability to maintain basic services.
Tommy it DOES mean they shouldn’t be fixed — the money for roads is being funnelled into HRM from the province and adequate funding isn’t being given to the rural municipalities.
And the city is providing basic services: the roads are passible, whereas rural roads often aren’t.
It’s all about an imbalance of funding on a provincial level, and those in their little HRM bubble need to get a clue. Passible roads >>>>>>>>> painted bike lanes. FFS.
Besides, come summer construction will be in full swing around here fixing the roads… do you know how many times I saw crews working on roads when i lived in rural NS? Literally about a 10th of the time I see them working in Halifax.
No wonder the rest of the province thinks HRM is filled with over privledged snots.
And with the seemingly omnipresent construction crews will come people bitching about them. 😛
because high mucky mucks don’t live there, hence fuck them and you, from the city.
OP, if the holes have water in them and a pedestrian nearby, speed up, hit the hole, and splash them. Then you can have some fun on the road 🙂
