Why does the city hire a fireworks company from Montreal when there is a perfectly good fireworks company based out of the valley . Their fireworks are always remembered to be better. The city needs to think more about who matters instead of just taking the cheaper and much less enjoyable approach.

I agree with you if it was the Province putting on the fireworks. It is usually the city, so in this case HRM. Why would HRM care what town got the business if they couldn’t find an HRM company to do it? To them the valley is just as good as Calgary, they will go with whom ever gives them the best deal on what they are looking for. Step outside of your box and look at it from another point of view.
this one is easy, the company in the valley is usually booked up and doesnt have the required techs it takes to put on multiple large scaled shows. Companies in major centers often have many crews of that are capable of doing large scale shows in many different centers on any given holiday. To the OP, have you inquired if the company (which is tiny in the grand scheme of things) has other shows that night?
