I recycle. I compost. I do a neighbourhood clean-up each spring. Patiently, I pick up the garbage that blows from my neighbours’ untended yards into mine. I call the city when something needs to be tended to in the neighbourhood (even though after many visits to view the problem, it doesn’t usually get fixed). So, when some kids decide to drag boards into the street in front of my house, I do not appreciate the city showing up to post a ticket on my door for not cleaning it up as fast as they would like. Had they made inquires, they would have found that it didn’t sit there for three days, but it was dragged there each day to use as bike ramps (after I picked it up each time).

What about the smokers throwing their butts out the car window? How do we submit their license plate number for littering?
yea good point and as for the wood infront the yard and by law ticketing – how about we toss that shit into city halls yard so that they can clean it up seeing as how they don’t clean up the roads that belong to them and we pay tax on ? are we suppose to pay the dump fee and take it there too when we pay tax for trucks of theres to do it?
I’d love to have a cop show up at my door or a letter show up in the mail telling me I’m fined because a citizen thinks they witnessed me littering. We’re all innocent until PROVEN guilty. ALL of us (so screw you kay-haters).
OP, if you think the charge unreasonable and the issuing officer had no grounds for filing such charges fight it, dammit!
For the record, I do not litter and I don’t think you should either.
who can figure out what the hog’s going on about? Who cares?
Again so aggressive with the comments… however it could acctually happen, you would just have to be unlucky enough to have someone catch you on a cell cam or something, not to mention stupid enough to litter in the first place.
Hog is clearly stoned and is not being clear/consise, but I got his point…
The point is that the OP was ticketed for not removing something off the road in front of their property–even though OP did not put it there (and OP did actually remove it twice, but the neighbours’ kids dragged back). And, OP is pissed because even though they follow the rules, unlike their neighbours, they are the ones that got the ticket.
HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY
BY-LAW NUMBER S – 300
BY-LAW RESPECTING STREETS
43. No person shall place, permit to be placed, or permit to escape from an abutting property dirt, dust, or other nuisance onto the street surface.
(Life’s a bitch. Then you die. ~70s saying = )
what if everyone who kept getting all these frivolous bylaw tickets ( “littering” like this, overzealous hemet enforcement, chicken an kitty cat licensing, ETC, ETC) started going to court to voice their concerns? I bet after a few days of the court being tied up with bullshit cases they might have to rethink their priorities and start focussing on the real problems around here, it’s such a waste of resources the way they go about it now.
I don’t think the money they’re expecting to take in from bylaw tickets will ever cover the salaries of the people who’s time is being wasted in the legal system(judges, lawyers, cops, etc)
I agree – that is F’ed up!
Fight all stupid tickets, notices etc.
Clog up the courts on week nights. The by law person won’t show up.
Don’t pay. Make a note of the name of the person issuing the notice.
Help put an end to this crap.
