Coffee. Ok, you got me started. I love coffee. No, I LOVE coffee. I will go out of my way to find good coffee. Then I come to North America. What is it with filtered coffee here? This is a number one coffee crime back home! Now, don’t get me wrong, there are some great coffee houses in Halifax, but they seem few and far between; outweighed in presence to those seemingly-green, high-priced, low-quality, burn-out-the-competition, corporate competition. Come on people! Support local industry and small business and have a little class in your coffee cup! By trying something *new* (shock horror) and “fancy” you might discover a whole new world of possiblity and TASTE!

Where the hell are you from? Arabia? You coffee yuppies make me barf.
Look SCA, there are those of us who like just plain coffee. I for one, like plain, simple, black coffee. No fancy roasts, no fancy presses, no crazy cat shit beans, no bullshit. So take said cat-shit beans and shove them up your ass and maybe then, you can charge 50 bucks a pound for it and have a taste experience yourself!
Well said, Dr. F.
I think SCA is just a aryan coffee nazi trying to assimilate us into the world of fanciness. I’ll go back to my boring normalcy now, thank you.
I don’t need class in my coffee cup, I need sludge to push me through my day. And wtf? Where precisely are you wanking about, because if it’s a chain store aduh, it’s not going to be phenomenal.
I love coffee 🙂 Filtered coffee from my perk at home, nasty Timmys, the arabic coffee that wakes me up in the morning. Black hazelnut flavoured coffee :). Turkish ground black hazelnut flavoured coffee…
I dont understand why youre bitching if you love it… just make it yourself? And let other people have their own tastes.
I can appreciate what the OP is saying; especially if s/he is from a part of the world where coffee is has any sort of ritual or methodology for preparation. Now before everyone jumps all over me about “coffee rituals” (and I don’t been idling in line until you can bark double-double at the box), you don’t shit on the Japanese for their tea ceremonies so cut the coffee people some slack.
Anyway, before I digress too much, here’s my take on coffee in Halifax:
Best brewed take away: Steve-O-Reno’s on Robie
Best latte: Trident Bookstore on Hollis (at least when they had the old-fashioned pump machine)
Best beans roasted on site: Java Blend on North
And I must agree with Gabrielle. Save up the money you would spend on take away coffee and buy yourself a really good machine (something with stainless piping, not plastic). Purchase a decent grinder and fresh beans from the aforementioned (adored) Java Blend and enjoy far better coffee.
grind your own at home, dude. that’s what i do.
I to am amazed by the people who have to have the timmie fix. Although you’ve got to admire the man who managed to get millions of people to drink BURNT…not roasted, coffee beans, mated with water run through 50 feet of rubber hose (to really improve the flavor ,don’t you know) & all of them believing ‘they’re drinking ambrosia’
As one of those who likes coffee, black right out of the pot, I do understand why double/double …triple/doubles are so popular at these coffee places, you gotta cover that grosse rubbery burnt flavor with something .
Java Blend on North Street. Local, carry a selection, a real coffee taste, support locals in their hard work for charity and friendly to boot! Its okay to take so much pleasure in something as simple as coffee, I get it, fer sher.
Who the hell is able to drink unfiltered coffee? Coffee that has been filtered is bad enough for you already… Yuck.
I take it you like thick coffee you can stand a horse shoe up in. me too, so I use a Bodum, french press. get one. most coffe shops sell them. also, if you do not want filtered coffee When at the cafe’ try asking the staff at a local coffee house if they can brew you unfiltered coffee from a french press. they just might. (if they arent to busy)
Open your own eropean/african/middle eastern stlye coffee house in halifax. you would make a killing.
Just Us does amazing things with a coffe bean as well. mmmmmm…..
