Remember when the Atlantic Film Festival was a four days longer? Or when it would bring in amazing films from all over the world, and not just fill theatres with as many “Atlantic Shorts” as they could to try and boost attendance? I didn’t think a film festival in Halifax could become more of a circle-jerk, but the AFF is somehow pulling it off. —Only four midnight showings?

A CIRCLE-JERK
“I didn’t think a film festival in Halifax could become more of a circle-jerk, but the AFF is somehow pulling it off.” Only four midnight showings?
You must remember that all film festivals are, by definition, mindless circle-jerks. Now, stop pulling it off and go home.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
Its true, I think this is the first time I’ve gone through the whole guide page by page and barely elicited a ‘meh’. Sorry, AFF.
I thought a circle-jerk would be way more fun…?!
What? No midnight showing of the digitally re-mastered version of “Nan – Nookie of the North” – The FIRST Canajun Porno?
Whatta gyp>: (
The AFF was better, but since 3-4 years ago it became a joke. Ever since the hipster circle-jerkers infiltrated it. Now we can see dozens of idiotic B-grade horror short films, all friends of the programmers of course.
sounds like none of you even went to the film fest. maybe you should actually SEE the movies before you criticize the festival. not to mention, the atlantic shorts are incredible! and deserve as much recognition as a short made in france or whatever the fuck. get a life.
Why on earth would we want to do that? We already have pretty strong opinions about both the content and the overall experience. If someone wants to believe that standing in line in a cloud of patchouli, hemp and pretentiousness to watch 45 hand held, out of focus, black and white minutes of a fly crawling around while a dwarf mimics masturbation embiggens them as a person, so be it. Just make sure you remember to put the chocolate curls on my Venti Frappuchino and you might get a quarter tip.
I have a life thanks and this year based on, as I said, going through the entire catalog, did not see anything worth wasting my life on at your CircleJerky AFF.
Look, I liked Parsley Days, it was cute. The Hanging Garden? I’d watch that again soon. But those were years ago. How much longer are Dorfman and Davis going to milk that “alone” video? I swear to god they’re they hipster equilavent of that Melissa Black chick and her stupid Friday vid.
Please AFF, less Atlantic and more International, okay? Sure, throw the locals artsy’s a bone and show their CFAT experimental shit, but give the rest of us a reason to open our wallets. Hint: at HPX I don’t make a habit of seeing the local acts.
it’s called the “ATLANTIC” film festival. not “entitled douche on The Coast website” festival.
“Entitled Douche on the Coast Website” festival? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Hello A.C.O.A – have I got a proposal for you.
Ha ha, good one. Check out the lineup for TIFF. They don’t just show indy filler, do they? Kinda explains why we need something like the ECMA’s as well.
“Entitled douche on the coast festival”
So a summit?
Went to the atlantic shorts a few years ago. Counted 5 short horror films, which all used bloody rape in the form of humour. I’m far far far from one to be offended, that is unless the offence is the lack of imaginative screenwriting. People are still tongue fucking Jason Eisener’s asshole after Hobo with a Shotgun. The AFF of all places, style trumps over substance, and it’s unfortunate that Halifax breeds such incestuous thinking.
They should do a Made for TV Movie of… whats that cop show out of Nfld… that would probably be a draw.
