Then, telling them it is illegal to buy glasses online and refusing to clarify the poorly written prescription. I’ve been ordering ours from Zenni. You have to beg your opthamologist for your PD (pupillary distance) but the glasses sites also tell you how to measure it yourself if you have to.
My hub breaks, loses, sleeps on glasses constantly so I ordered him SEVEN pairs of single vision glasses and sunglasses for around $200.
Mine are progressive so they cost more but I still got 2 pairs (1 sunglasses) for about $140.
If the frame sizes aren’t on one of the arms of your current pair, go find a pair that fits nicely at a glasses store and note the bridge width, frame width and temple length to help you shop inline. You can upload a picture of yourself to try them on!
First of all the person on welfare should consider herself lucky they get atleast $50 for free, Their are people out there who have to pay for their medical benefits every pay just to have that luxury. I’m so tired of the people in this city who sit on their ass and get everything for free.

There are places in NS that charge $50 – $60. Your neighbour is on welfare so has time to call around and check the prices for a check up. Your neighbour should consider themselves lucky to receive $50 at all because there are some on welfare who actually can’t work due to illness, old age, ect… and welfare will not give money to them for their eyes. Maybe your neighbour should stop bitching and pick up the phone book and call around. No one is going to feel sorry for someone who can’t help themselves.

Well OB, that really caught my eye ! With this opening statement you point out what IMO is the biggest problem in our Society today .
The belief one is entitled to free “everything you can think of” ,given to them by the government …without ANY thought what so ever for the very simple fact GOVERNMENT has nothing to give …. they make nothing, they produce absolutley nothing, they are what is sucking the lifeblood out of everyone/everything that actually is doing something productive.
Then they take these “taxes” & redistribute it how They Feel it needs to be spent. Making sure they take a nice big cut for themselves & a solid gold pension plan to boot …. just to make sure they don’t have to go a begging for a handout later, they are taking it NOW !

If she needs glasses to see she’s not disabled, she just needs glasses. Optometrists are required to give you your prescription if you’ve paid for an exam. They’re not required to give you your PD which you should have if you’re ordering online. If it’s not legible enough for an optician to dispense glasses with it then they didn’t effectively give it to your friend and you can complain to the office or the college. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
Not disabled if just needs glasses. Optometrist required to give prescription in a manner that can be read by optician to make glasses. Order on Internet at your own risk, you get what you pay for.

yeah… see here’s the thing op.. Unless her vision loss was sudden and drastic, she should have had glasses already. The fact that she has not planned for this means it’s likely she’s not worked in some time now.
Why doesn’t she get a job where eyesight isn’t quite as important or there are tools to help the visually impaired? Call centers have software in place to help. She can stock shelves and not run a cash. You’re talking about this person like she’s some sort of specialist. There are lots of options for her that MAY VERY WELL have a decent eyecare plan.
Sounds to me like she has no interest in helping herself.
