I don’t have a problem with my co-workers speaking in different languages around me. It’s rude, yes. But i really don’t want any part of your conversation, so i’m glad to remain clueless as to what you’re conversing about. What i do have a problem with, is the fact that you damn near scream your conversations at each other, while you stand a foot apart. Yes, i can tell that Arabic is a very passionate language, but do you really HAVE to make everyone else’s ears ring when you speak it? I was on the phone with a client this morning and you two ignorant fucks boomed over my own voice, forcing me to appologize and say i’d have to call him back. Talk about whatever you want, as loud as you want in your own time, but while you’re at work tone it down a little. The rest of us can’t even hear ourselves think.

نأسف للازعاج! سوف أكون أكثر النوع في المستقبل!
lol.. Duct Tape Adam made me giggle lol..no idea what it says though..its so true though..with me its those speaking english, im clearly on the phone i have a little light which flashes when im on the phone i dont have a headset so i actually am holding the phone to my ear and everyone is blabbing and screaming around me. i really like it when they try to talk to me while im in mid sentance in a conversation… they’re worse then my 4 year old!!
If I were to visit ANY country that does not speak ENGLISH……I would LEARN THEIR LANGUAGE, or at least enough to get by.I would not expect everyone THERE to learn english to make my pampered ass happy. The problem with this country, is that WE are expected to learn other languages to show “tolerance” (?) I will tolerate their language if they are a VISITOR. If they live here—-suck on this!!!LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH unless you are at home. Scream all you want once you get there——just not on the fucking balcony at 1 A-FUCKING-M in the morning. I have a JOB, and my kids have to be fresh enough at school to learn all the different fucking languages that are now required, because, one day , they will be the minority in the USA, and english will be obsolete.
You know, Jalayne, if you had ever actually TRIED to learn another language, you probably would never have made such a stupid statement. You can’t just learn a different language like you learn to drive on the other side of the road. Learning a language is damned difficult for anyone but young children. And if you don’t know how frustrating and difficult it is to live in a culture where you can’t communicate effectively, and how hard these people work to overcome that, then you obviously don’t know any immigrants. NONE of these people expect Canadians to learn Arabic or any other language. You’ll “tolerate” their language!? But only if they’re visitors!? Jesus Christ! They should only speak their own language in their own homes? I am in total agreement with the OP on her/his point, which is that people who talk unneccessarily loudly are rude. I would extend the accusation of rudeness to people who scream in English or French, though. Maybe the OP is unconsciously pointing out that people from some cultures are more inclined to be loud. And that’s valid. You, on the other hand, just come across as a garden variety bigot.
jaleyne…..leader of multiculturalism. Its funny, this isnt shit that would be discussed anywhere west of quebec. So few minorites (ratio wise) that shit like this stands out here. I sympathize, but OP and jalayne will go stir crazy anywhere else in canada but the maritimes.
I dunno Homie, While cities like Toronto and Van have quite the variety of languages to be heard on the street, the sad reality is that the “learn the fucking language” attitude is pretty prevalent there too. I have had that conversation in both cities, often with immigrants as well. There might be more of that sorry attitude in Halifax, but it’s not hard to find elsewhere.
while i agree, you do see it there too, it just is more apart of the way there, i mean they have areas like greektown, little italy, chinatown…. which speaking english is just as prevelent as english. But here, the asian and european presence just isnt nearly as big. I can see how it is far more irratating out here. Its funny, the ongoing joke in ontario is the best way to learn other languages is to take a cab
Really, Jalayne, if you moved to Italy with your husband, you would speak to him strictly in Italian when you’re out shopping? No. When you’re with someone with the same mother tongue as you, that’s the language you default to.
