Okay, so the Bookroom’s closed-down/The Daily News just went tits-up….what in the fuck is going on??? I mean there’s talk of a recession and all…but I thought it wasn’t supposed to affect Canada that badly….why is everything thing in the shitter all of a sudden????

Business was booming at the BLIP Chapters on Sunday afternoon…Amongst many reasons, one I think applies is that people are tired of circling the block 5 times to find a parking space so they can shop downtown.Insert anti-car promote the bike in 4-3-2-1…
Not to worry, this is all normal Nova Scotian economics…happens every few years. It will recover…kind of like when the toilet refills after a flush. If you listen carefully you can hear the Glug Glug as the provincial economy refills.
NovaScotia is poor, the taxes for buying stuff is like 4000% vs Alberta’s 5%. Alberta > Novascotia.
And by that math: rich people > poor people?Anyway, the value of Nova Scotia is not in its economy.
Too bad about the Daily News. It was nice having an alternate to the Chronically Horrid, something less right wing, certainly more portable to read. I’ll really miss the Sunday edition.
maybe the Coast should become a daily….might be a good anedote to the Metro
yeah downtown is going down the shitter, it really is….but look on the bright side… Bayers Lake is doing amazingly well, lots of new development up there…and lets not forget about dartmouth crossing….those places will be our new downtown, with amazing architecture, culture and a real sense of history. Blah!
A couple of businesses that didn’t really cater to its audience are closing and people are pulling the sheet over the head of the Nova Scotia economy. The Bookroom was not the pinnacle of bookstores. It was dark, the available books were limited, and the staff was barely there. The Daily News was a rag at best and tended toward sensationalism rather than hard news. Businesses close. Audiences change. Be patient. Other businesses will open.
