Bill c-15 and now Investigative Powers for the 21st Century (IP21C) Act. When will we stand up for our rights and stop bowing down to fear! These laws will do nothing more than help bring in a police state. I want my privacy!! I want my human rights!! We must tune out the media and snap out of the barrage of propaganda that has tainted us since 911. The only ones who can take our freedoms are those who control our laws. Not the so called terrorists or the pedophiles!! A warrant is nothing to get when tracking down pedophiles. Do not fall for lies that will steal human and privacy rights from generations to come. Those who sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither!!

“I want my privacy!! I want my human rights!!”
You realize the Human Rights Commissions have the right to search and seize your property without a warrant. We lost our right to privacy long before this bill.
“The only ones who can take our freedoms are those who control our laws.”
Not true. HRC kangaroos don’t control our laws and trample our rights everyday, we pay $200 million for the privilege. Google Ezra Levant.
Who will police the police?

C-15 is not the answer. Contact you MP.
Welcome to the CANADA PATRIOT Act.
And to any of you who supported Stephen W. Harper, congratulations. I hope you’re proud of yourself.
OP, Hear Hear!!!
Privacy, rights, blah, blah, blah. What the fuck do I care if the police find out that I’m planning a trip to the Caribbean, or I emailed pictures of my puppy to my aunt in New Brunswick, or I have a thing for pregnant chicks getting banged in jeans?
Scan me at the airport! Videotape me at the ATM! I have a nothing to hide! I sometimes think that all you people who wail to no end about privacy are doing some sick and/or illegal shit in your spare time.
Mr Barfield, not all of us are voyeurs and simply take offense to ANYBODY else sniffin’ around our shit let alone our own government. We’re not communists (depending solely on the state). We’re not even Americans as we hold the “spirit of the law” over the “letter of the law”. Territorial behavior and independent thinking is a pretty normal thing among us homo sapiens. I think you need to have a look at the bigger picture. Read George Orwell’s 1984 and then get back to us about how Big Brother without any tolerance or “spirit” is a good thing for Canadians.
I feel like this should bother me, but it doesn’t. I need a more convincing argument.
I think that there are worse transgressions of human rights in Canada than invasion of privacy. Also, despite the plethora of security checks and cameras, I’m sure you’d be the first person to complain if you or your family were directly harmed by a terrorist act. What would you suggest that we do in place of the existing legislation?
Heathro, why don’t you start by telling us what’s so beneficial about Bill C-15
Maybe I wasn’t clear. What I meant to say was, I don’t care. Either way, spied on or not. I don’t care.
apathetic people don’t vote either, Heathro, so it doesn’t really matter what you think… until your opinion shared with family and friends in the non-privacy of YOUR home offends our government. Think, buddy! Think! There’s a much bigger picture to consider than your tiny little peon life. There is a major principal at stake here. Think smarter, dammit!
I just read over the bills the OP mentioned and I don’t really see what the big deal is. C-15 hands out more severe punishments to people in possession of illegal drugs. It’s pretty harsh on pot users and I think that’s what all the fuss is about. I don’t agree with tough sentences for users anyway, because the evidence says they don’t act as deterrents.
But people who smoke, sell and grow weed do so knowing full well that it is already illegal…now they will just be punished for willfully breaking the law. For all those pot smokers out there who think it’s a harmless drug, think about where the pot is actually coming from and think about how many lives are ruined by the criminal activity that puts that weed in your joint. Getting tough on drug dealers and drug growers is not necessarily a bad thing. If you want to smoke weed without getting in trouble, find a more effective way to legalize it. Heck, I’ll even sign your petition.
As for the privacy bill, it doesn’t sound that bad either. The purpose of it is to let the law catch up with technology. Tapping phone lines just doesn’t cut it anymore. I fail to see where the human rights and privacy rights violations are in the proposed bills.
People are just being paranoid.
“Think smarter!” Thanks for the advice, kay. We’ll do our best.
Maybe the big deal about c-15 is the ineffectiveness of massive and expensive incarcerations over… a bit of weed. Maybe the bigger deal is sanctioning access and technology that would put Big Brother in your face because your 15 yr old brought some home from school, the big bad criminally-minded dangerous offender that he is, right? Gotta let Big Brother have a great big whip to fix him up, right? C-15 would drag him through the courts and the “rehabilitation centers” (where the weed is even more free flowing and the criminal minds congregate and conspire) to the maximum. To what end? We can afford to throw 1 out of every 100 Canadians into jail? Because that’s the result of the C-15 implementation in the States.
Miles, I’d like to know exactly “how many lives are ruined by the criminal activity that puts that weed in your joint”? How many people do you know who take the occasional puff? How many corpses in their joints, huh? Really. You don’t really think those drive by shootings are motivated by weed, do you?
I have yet to meet a stoner who would rather start a fight than eat a bag of chips. The answer to C-15 is the legalize pot so drug enforcement efforts are spent on the real trouble-makers of our underground. I don’t mean “decriminalize” pot but “legalize” it and let the new commodity do it’s work on a fucked up world economy rather than spending so much more trying to enforce draconian laws… just to please the Americans. Maybe then we could take C-15 to mean that it’s power is used against the criminals who traffic in hard drugs, guns, violence and people… oh, but then this bitch wouldn’t exist.
