To the, at most, 14 yr old boy who called after me “yeah yeah, f@%k you and all you hoes” on Sunday as I was walking to a December 6th event in memory of women who have lost their lives to violence: I am a woman. I have worked with survivors of sexual assault. I have worked with women who work as prostitutes. I am a woman walking. I am not a ho and prostitutes also are not deserving of this type of abuse. Just as you are not deserving of derogatory remarks hurled at you because of your race, age, or where you live. I want walk without feeling violated or unsafe. I want us to learn from the shattering and painful events from our past. Enough.

Little children on my street yell things like that to me and probably others whenever I walk by. And they’re like…between 5 and 10. It’s sad, I’m only 19 myself but I would never EVER say anything offensive like that when I was younger. There’s NO respect these days!
I once stopped my car and got after 2 kids (about 10 years old) for throwing snowballs at my car as I drove past. What happened? Some parent came running out of the house calling me some great names for getting after her kids. If she was able to see me stopped there, obviously she could see what they were doing…..Now that is some smart parenting…..Yell at the person that your kids are hitting with snowballs while driving by…..Jesus how stupid of me to drive into the snowballs!!!
If prostitutes don’t want the negative attention, they should have stayed in school. How many young female students stand up on career day and say “I want to be a hooker when I grow up.”

going to a rally or not, does not negate the fact that what that kid did, was indeed a form of aggression directed toward another person,which in my opinion is wrong. i have seen this shit happen for the past decade downtown and around other parts of the city. these kids and adults are peices of shit. they serve no purpose in our society except to intimidate young successful women. they could never have a normal conversation with these women because they feel/ know they are shit and lack any type of respect for themselves or others. I’ve never heard that. I HAVE heard questions like yours (ie how did you provoke your attacker) asked of female rape victims significantly more than it is asked of male rape victims. When you say abused, what do you mean? Sexually assaulted? Battered? Stalked? What exactly are you talking about?
